We went to do some morning photography and caught some stunning scenery, with Aspen groves turning yellow. While it was still a bit early for the full fall beauty, the serenity and quiet of the surroundings, other than nature, was nice. The campgrounds are in great shape. The restrooms were very clean. The lake does not allow motorized boats, but kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, etc. are fine. We saw a lone kayaker enjoying the morning on the lake. This is a beautiful place for camping, hiking, fishing or just sitting back and watching the sun move slowly across the sky while you enjoy a bottle of Syrah or Pinot.

Though after much consideration, I suppose I might as well be the one to share it with all my Yelp friends! Star #1: It is a first come, first serve, FREE campground. There is a paid campground nearby as well, so don't fret if you arrive and there are no sites available. However, it is such a hidden gem that I have yet to have the need for that. Star #2: Many of the sites are adjacent small streams, so you'll get to fall asleep to the sounds of babbling brooks! There are a few that are more open and offer lots of space for activities and larger groups too - bags anyone?! We tend to prefer the ones that are tucked up against the mountain. Star #3: The variety of sites makes it a great place for any type of camping: tents, camper, car, etc! Though, I will say, an RV might be pushing it... Star #4: At approximately and hour and a half from Denver, this campground is ideal for those looking for a close and quick mountain getaway without committing to hours in the car. Star #5: If you are like many campers and want to get some shooting in while you embrace your inner woods-person. Sugarloaf has got you covered! There is a wide open area right when you turn up the main road that is prepped for all your shooting needs. So go ahead and fire off a few rounds. Just don't forget: safety first! After camping a handful of places in Colorado Sugarloaf Campground has been on of my favorites and on of the only ones I have been back to multiples times!

I had been to this park many, many moons ago. It was nice but since then - WOW!…read more All "neighborhoods" are well maintained and clean. The bathrooms sparkle despite being poop pits. They are cleaned many times a day. We found people are respectful and keep their dogs under control. They also have lockers at each site to put food in. There is a nice loop trail with an option to go a little further. If you do the short loop, be careful you don't miss the hard turn about 100 degrees to the left to head back to camp at the wooden sign on the trail. Enjoy!

We have been going to Mountain Park for 25 years. The new Company managing the Park is the worst…read morethe Park has ever seen. We never saw a bathroom or showers cleaned in the 6 days we were there. Out of order showers, the ones that did work offered only cold water. The former Management Company was great. These new camp hosts never even raked or cleaned a site the entire time. It is shameful that this Company was awarded this contract. Pay no attention to reviews before this year, it used to be managed amazingly but in 2025 they awarded the job to a Company that does nothing.

Since I haven't been in the summer when I feel you can really take advantage my opinion is definitely skewed but it's worth the short and beautiful drive from Steamboat (about 50 minutes). The park was $9 to get in and you also have access to go to Pearl Lake with the day pass, but out of the two options this one was definitely better. There's a short hike about 1.1 miles called Tombstone nature trail. Looking forward to going back sometime in the summer when there's more to explore and I can spend time on the water.

I've got a pretty strong stomach and i almost lost it one morning.. CHILDREN - apparently being 40 minutes outside of Ft Collins means all the breaders gather, with their kids, bikes, corn hole, toys, etc - and the idea of a quiet camping trip is out the window. Once outside they have no quams speaking loudly. No quiet talk, or the ability to keep one's voices under control. The map appears to have the "road" right next to the campsite... bring something to wheel your gear. It's not far to enjoy the view, but was a surprise how far it was from the car! I had to knock off a star due to the caliber of people that stay here. We did a weird stay - sat and sunday night vs the normal fri/sat. Apparently if you book 3 campsites you freel you can let you 2-4 childen per family scream incessantly, yell to each other across the whole camp site, ride their bikes thru your site, play corn hole or some traveling bocci ball thing thru the whole camp ground and expect you to be able to enjoy yourself. Heaven forbid you tear yourself away from your game of wizard something or other to determine where your children are, what they are doing or to have then refrain from screaming - gotta love how water is like a loudspeaker to spoken word... oy! Alas - i would probably go back, just for the peacefulness (like sunday when the loud families take off, or when you take the trail around the lake).Or there are RV sites that are not on top of one another - so you can have your car and tent and view and not too much of a generator noise in your ear!

Sometimes trips are hard to plan in advance, and we were ISO a spot with first come, first serve sites. Kudos to the universe for allowing the stars to align in our favor! + Along the Middle St. Vrain Creek + Two vault toilets located centrally between campsites + One fire ring (with grates) per site + Firewood available on property for $9 + Sizable tent pad, bear locker and picnic table + Walking distance to trailhead + Reservable and non-reservable campsites + 8 people allowed per campsite + Pets allowed We had an extremely enjoyable camping trip a few weeks back. Roughly an hour and a half from our house in Denver, Peaceful Valley Campground made us feel like we were thousands of miles away from civilization. For reference, the campground is about 8 miles away from the ever-popular Brainard Lake Recreation Area. We did experience some rain on Saturday afternoon which was a damper (pun intended). But because of that rain we were treated to the most spectacular rainbow and sunset. It was magical, just look at the pictures I got. The consensus was that we'd come back in a heartbeat next year. There's nothing better than going to sleep at night with the sound of a vibrant creek in the background. We're creekside campers and Peaceful Valley delivered an A+ trip for us!

Leaving Fort Collins, head West on hwy 14... past the little community of Poudre Canyon... past…read moreMishawaka... past so many other campgrounds that you finally start to wonder if you'll end up in Laramie, WY... ...and then FINALLY you'll hit Kelly Flats. Don't worry, it's worth it. Kelly Flats Campground is located 35 miles west of Fort Collins in the Poudre Canyon. Of the 29 available sites, most are either right on the river or a mere few steps away. It's low enough to wade and tube in the late-fall, but it is COLD. Bring your fishing pole... you might just catch yourself a delicious trout! The campground host keeps the bathrooms IMMACULATE, which is a huge bonus. No spiders! Most of the bathrooms are wheelchair ready. Almost all the sites are car/RV/trailer accessible, but there are six that are walk-in tent-only. Not surprisingly, these six boast the best spots on the river. They're also a bit more secluded. Even so, the other sites are spaced well enough apart so the slightly rowdy won't step on the toes of the family campers (or vice versa!). It's a great set-up. Dogs are welcome, but need to be tied up at your campground. They're free to frolic down by the river, though! Site 10 (walk-in) has a cool little "swimming pool" of river rocks built up... and it's probably really nice during the early summer months when the river's a bit higher. All sites have picnic tables and fire grates. You can buy wood from the camp host for $7 a bundle, but I recommend getting it at the Conoco in town for half the price. There isn't much to gather at the campground. One thing to note: there are TONS of yellowjackets. I don't know if it's because we camped late in the season, but those buggers were aggressive and mean. And EVERYWHERE. You'd be smart to pack one or two of those yellow wasp traps. As camping goes, Kelly Flats is far enough out there to be really gorgeous and secluded, but developed enough to feel safe and fun for even the littlest campers. We took our one-year-old and he had a blast! We'll be back next summer for sure...!

This year the walk in tent sites are closed due to hazardous trees (sound funny - but i went over and looked and yeah, trees down everywhere It costs $5 extra dollars to get into the lake per night. So a weekend is an additional $10 on top of your site fee and reservation fee. Snow - there was still some there in july and it could come again as early as august.. you never know! Bring layers and big boots for hiking! Pros: It is within walking distance to the lake. The views are absolutely amazing. All the peaks! The clouds and fog did seem to descend right on top of you, so be prepared to be wet occasionally Tons of hiking trails! Beautiful - did i mention that? Sites are well maintained, flat Fire pits are nicely maintained The roads are paved, potable water, vault toilets, but plenty around and they don't smell terrible! See you there soon!
