It's a…read moregreat place to get your blood work & testing done if you've just seen a doctor in that same building. Taking up the 8th floor of that building is their spacious waiting room, quality facilities & friendly personnel. It's a much easier Sentara location for the diagnostics they offer because of the adjoining parking garage with easy access to the elevator. Step out of the elevator onto the 8th floor and you will immediately find, to the right, the Diagnostic Center entrance doors. There is no weather or long walking lot issues to bother you. The only negative is that the results don't usually come through on your MyChart App until the next day. They send Blood Work across the street to the hospital for processing. Blood Work done at the hospitals, such as Leigh, are sometimes available on MyChart shortly after returning home. It's pretty amazing. The Building is located on the south side of Brambleton Avenue. Turn left on Colley, right on Southampton then right on Riverview. The parking garage is on the back side of the building (from Brambleton). Don't forget to get you parking ticket validated so it's free.

When you step off the elevator from the garage, the center is located immediately to your right. This is a full-service diagnostic center. They offer laboratory services, radiology, imaging, mammography, ultrasound and more. I appreciate the convenience especially since my doctor is located on the same floor of the building. I always appreciate the consistent minimal wait times. I am always in and out quickly, I don't think I've ever been there more than fifteen minutes. Employees in the front and those in the back are always friendly and efficient. They are competent and appear to enjoy their jobs. Don't forget to have them validate your parking ticket so you don't have to pay when you exit the garage.

Another great experience with an EVMS specialist!…read more I was disappointed when my EVMS Otolaryngologist, who knows how tough I am, referred me instead to an EVMS Sinus Specialist, Dr.Kent Lam. The findings discovered in a Brain MRI & a followup Sinus CatScan left both my Neurologist & myself with little doubt that the findings would require Sinus Surgery or biopsy of a lesion/cyst/polyp/nodule to determine exactly what it was, possibly just being filled with sinus fluid. General Anesthesia is something I avoid at all costs due to comorbidities. Thus my pleading to my Otolaryngologist who knew I would be fine without General Anesthesia. Going into the examination room I was prepared to plead my case. In this instance I lost. Dr. Lam didn't budge, refusing to do sinus surgery without General Anesthesia. He wasn't familiar with the many complex procedures I've had performed without General Anesthesia. There was a good outcome. Before my appointment Dr Lam had researched my records and found the nodule was there in a Cervical Spinal MRI a number of years ago. The size hasn't changed since then. So his recommendation was to just monitor for now. Dr. Lam did prescribe an anti inflammatory nasal mist. His Medical Assistant came in and demonstrated how to use the device. She indicated that it was a very expensive drug. They would have to go through a period of coverage denial followed by their justification. The process could take weeks. Not a problem with me. I've already been texted the first denial. I feel comfortable with both Dr. Lam & his Medical Assistant. He didn't push me into surgery and had done his homework prior to seeing me, which I'm not certain some doctors do. His Medical Assistant is knowledgeable, explained the medication and approval process completely and began the process immediately. Dr. Lam's office is conveniently located near the entrance to River Pavilion on the Sentara Norfolk General complex. Valet parking is offered for patients. Rhinology shares a location with other EVMS ENT specialties & the (dreaded) Hearing & Balance Center. The employees in the multi practice office are extremely nice and friendly. It's a pleasant place to see a physician.

There are many…read morehealthcare services available in the building including primary care physicians and a variety of specialties. Besides clinical services there is also a full-service laboratory and diagnostic center. The building is located next to Plum Point Park on the Elizabeth River so there are wonderful scenic views from offices on the east side of the building as well as the attached parking garage. The building is always clean and well maintained. Restrooms are always clean and properly stocked and the elevators always operate correctly. I appreciate the attached parking garage which affords ample parking to access the building as well as shelter from foul weather. I have always been able to easily find available parking. Access to the garage is controlled by automated gates. Parking is free for the first two hours. If you plan to be in the building for longer than that make sure to get your parking ticket validated so you don't have to pay. I get my ticket validated in my doctor's office or the diagnostic center which are both located on the eighth floor. I have been very satisfied with my visits to this building over the years. I enjoy the convenience of getting to the plaza by car but it is also accessible by The Tide light rail system.

There are a number of buildings, including what must be EVMS housing. Not only is it less crowded & easier to navigate than the labyrinth of the "across the street" complex, the main building that houses most of the patient related offices is very patient friendly. The above describes building has an attached parking garage with an easy to access elevator opening to each floor's small lobby. There are handicapped parking spaces directly adjacent to the glass enclosed elevator. For evening appointments, a security guard is stationed in the elevator area. Walking is at a minimum, which is perfect for me. My Cardiology Practice is located in the building as is the Sentara Sleep Center, which I've also visited numerous times. If your doctor orders lab work, you only have to take the elevator to the Sentara Fort Norfolk Diagnostic Center. Fort Norfolk Medical Plaza is easy to access, not just from Norfolk, but also Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Suffolk & Western Branch. It is very near the spot where Brambleton forks into the Midtown Tunnel & Hampton Boulevard. There is a Light Rail stop at Fort Norfolk for those who don't like to drive, Coming from Virginia Beach, one can make an easy trip via I-264 taking the best route through Waterside to Bousch to Brambleton. I usually make the return trip on the surface streets ending up on Princess Ann/Northhampton. Do you know why it's called Fort Norfolk? Guarding the Norfolk side of the Elizabeth River & Harbor is the fully restored War of 1812 era Fort Norfolk. It is currently only manned by ghosts of the past. But if you're lucky enough to secure a tour you can experience 21st century men re-enacting their 19th century forebears. Learning the history of Fort Norfolk will make you happy to be treading on historical footprints, if only for a doctors appointment.

Sometimes the gates are raised and you won't have to pay for parking. Otherwise they can validate it if you have an appointment. You have to go through security and then check in at the desk. The imaging center was towards the front by Subway. They have a separate waiting area for your family to wait. It's pretty open in there with a TV to watch and lots of seating. It's nice that they have the Subway inside, but they do close early. The staff were all friendly. They took me to a room to change and gave me a locker with a key. The MRI room can feel a little intimidating. I'm claustrophobic so I'd recommend taking an anxiety med before going. Your doctor can prescribe one prior to your appointment. The process took about an hour, so be prepared to be inside the MRI machine for a bit. You will hear strange sounds and it's tight in there. But it's really not that bad. Ask for the mirrored glasses so you can see outside of the machine, so you don't freak out. Also you have to be still, but expect everything you never expected to itch, to start as soon as they strap you in. Lol. But the procedure went well, the staff was accommodating and friendly, and I recommend them for your MRI needs!!
