Hands down the best resort my husband and I have been to. It all started with Irena checking us in. She was immensely pleasant and even told us about a pasta class later in the day hosted by Lorenzo, the Italian Chef. Arrived via boat (don't sit in the front unless you are okay getting wet in airport attire) and got a quick tour of the resort. We can't pick a favorite spot of the resort because it was all perfect but we definitely have a favorite chef and waiter. Lorenzo and Edgar took care of us like royalty. Every dish we received was exquisite even beating midtown NYC delicacies we are used to. Our room was a junior suite ocean front and our maid was on point. Didn't get to meet him/her but we noticed how well the room was kept as we enjoyed the resort. David was another phenomenal waiter that can be found by the pools and beach. He ensured we always had something to much on or a nice refresher in our hand. We loved this location so much that we are already making reservations to return next month.

Casa de los Sueños (House of Dreams): Must book if you are looking for a reasonable boutique hotel!…read moreIt is located next to a private residence and also the 5-star Impressions Hotel (Hyatt). Once you stay here, you have options to rent bicycles (complimentary) and golf carts from here. I highly recommend getting one of the golf carts from here, as they book out fast. Otherwise, you will have to go downtown to rent them for an hourly rate or daily fee. The hotel has a relationship with Kin Ha beachfront restaurant, which is below the hotel. It is not connected, so you must travel down the stairs and cross the side road to enter the Kin Ha beachfront restaurant for complimentary breakfast (any entree with one simple coffee or juice). You can also lay out at their beach club, which has complimentary kayaking, snorkeling, and paddleboarding (tipping recommended). The rooms are grand and colorful. The pool and ocean views are amazing. There are 13 rooms in this boutique hotel. I was advised that the best rooms here are Grace, Love, and Serenity. You must notify the front desk if you want your room cleaned. Otherwise, you can request items/amenities (even a beach towel) from the front desk. Some other things to note here are the laundry room and jewelry/hat store. The options are a bit limited compared to downtown. Why Casa de los Sueños? This isn't just a place to sleep--it's an integral part of the island (Isla Mujeres) experience. There is someone always to greet you in the lobby. I felt safe throughout my stay here.

Hotel La Joya is absolutely perfect!!!…read more Location - it's off the beaten track and not located in the Playa Norte strip area, but that makes it so much more special in my opinion. Taxi rides from the center were 78pesos each way. Rooms - we stayed in room #1 which I picked specifically after viewing all the rooms on their website. Our room featured a private balcony and view of the whole property. The wifi signal wasn't always strong in the room, but who needs internet 24/7 on vacation!! Grounds - the grounds were beautiful. Everything from the pool, sun deck, private beach cove were everything I could ever hoped for! Staff - super awesome and willing to accommodate our requests. Our first night we were too tired to venture out and find food so we ate at the hotel. The chef brought our dinner to our hotel balcony which made it that much more special. Every night they made sure we had what we needed, more wine glasses, wine opener etc (we kept bringing back bottles each night lol). They were more than happy to call us taxis when we needed them at specific times. Prices - at $100 a night it's more than affordable!!! We are already planning our next trip back, that's how much we loved this hotel and the island on the whole!!!

You wouldn't think it is a resort looking at it from the outside. Okay well I was still wing a little optimistic about the place. We arrived and it is is all open. Nothing glamorous about the entrance. There is one check in desk with one person. The wait was long to get checked in and to our room. It is old you can tell but for me that's not too important as long as the customer service is on point. We got shown to our room and the room was so refreshing it was cold and clean. The mini bar was all inclusive big plus. We got the room facing the pool. Very nice view the pool is pretty big. Not so new but still nice. Food: It usually is buffet style but that was closed and that sucked!!!! You had to order off a menu and the staff wasn't quite on point with the service only but a few were. In the morning they come to you with a cart full of fruit yogurt oats granola and pan dulce sweet bread. However they don't announce what else they have on the cart. We missed out on homemade juices. Pretty upset by that. We only knew because we saw someone drinking a green cleanse drink and so we asked. The food from the ceviche hut was good it's not heavy just right. But our server had the worst service. Was a little on the flustered side maybe overworked but he also was knowledgeable on the areas around the hotel which he should be. Staff: There a few good nice ones and the other few just plain rude. The hotel lacked a lot of supplies and food. No ingredients for mojitos, no straws, no plastic cups, or other things that a hotel should carry. They close all the bars and restaurants at 7! Really what is that. However the room service staff was great they went above and beyond. We complained and the only thing to make us feel better they put flowers on the floors maybe on our anniversary or honeymoon. But that was not good enough. I would not return to this place again nor will I recommend it to friends. This is more for older couples who want no noise or a party seen. It is a quiet place to relax.

After 5 nights I am Going to assume this is a made up list. Being away from everything, a fridge is a must. We made due but it was very inconvenient. The beach area very early in the mornings is nice and quiet. I did find broken beer bottle glass and cigarette butts(Tons) in the beach sand. The pool is also way too cold and I didn't want to get in. The adult pool is amazing. There is an ice machine which you won't find at most hotels on the island. It's far from town but I knew that and in the morning it's very peaceful. Afternoon and night music is blaring. Staff are pretty friendly and helpful. Overall, this is Mexico so keep an open mind and enjoy the beach and culture.

I DID NOT FEEL SAFE HERE! The only reason they even get 1…read morestar: the beach and the food were great! (when it was available). NO SAFE IN THE ROOM! We really tried for 3 nights to see the positives over the negatives. We arrived at about 8-9 pm and were walked to our room (not the beautiful ocean view room we booked) and were left without any communication- (what the WiFi password was, where the front desk is, who to contact if we had a problem- you know, normal hotel stuff). We were not given the room we booked until we expressed our frustration that the hot and humid bathroom was separated from the room by a very hot and humid hallway, the sliding door did not lock unless 2 people pulled it together and locked it with some creativity, the wiring in the outlets and fan in the ceiling looked like they were going to light the place on fire . We went to have breakfast the next morning, and ordered food - the listing on Bookings.com says "breakfast included in the price of the room" we got charged for breakfast. (The breakfast they include is a "continental breakfast" toast, butter, jam, coffee, juice- while everyone else around you eats eggs and potatoes from the menu). If you want to carry a block of wood on a rope with 4 keys on it so you can fumble through the keys every time you get to your door, then you should stay here. We basically would have to bring a big enough bag to the beach for a place to keep the keys . The staff is very suspicious of you if you decide to put your food bill on your tab so you can pay it all at the end. They kept bothering us to make us pay for the whole 5 days at the hotel even though they already had my credit card info. They thought we were going to leave without paying (because other people have done that to them) so we were treated like we were going to steal from them. The ironic part about it- the first day we were there- our bags were dug through by the cleaning staff. There is no safe in the room - and this is not our first trip out of the country- we kept all of our passports/cash/credit cards/phones, etc on us at all times... so nothing that we noticed was missing. It was obvious to me that they had been in my bag, because the way they zipped it is not the way I ever zip my bag- two, too perfectly placed zipper loops right on top- nope- I zip both zippers all the way to one side so the zippers aren't visible. Nothing was missing- so I didn't complain- what would I say- they were allegedly looking for stuff to allegedly steal? If you don't speak Spanish- DON'T STAY HERE! I understand enough Spanish to know the content and subject of the conversation... Many of the employees speak English to you, but when conveying the message about you/your room/your food to each other - in front of you, they speak Spanish. Even the owner -Ana- speaks English to your face, but when another employee (who also speaks English) brought our tab for the food- they spoke in Spanish about our bill/us/our situation . Very rude. Bottom line- there are much nicer places to stay- for less money, where you will be given better service (anything is better than no service at all!)

The owner, Keen is even worse and will not address problems you may have. Hotel is due for a major remodel. We tried to order drinks and food at the pool bar several times and could not get service ever. I don't know why they even have a bar, which is tiny and falling apart. The continental breakfast consisted of 2 plates of rotting fruit, a juice box and some type of stale bread. Was terrible! The towels they give you for the pool are so old and thin and barely covered half of our chairs. Also several of the beach umbrellas were broken and the staff was never around to fix them or change them out. They don't maintain the outside landscaping well at all. The lobby restroom was not clean and you could hardly fit inside to use the toilet as you are shoved up against a wall. They have several animals at this hotel and the barking dogs were quite annoying early in the morning when we were trying to sleep. I think they belong to the staff that lives there because we complained and they were very annoyed by our complaint and did nothing. We have been to Isla Mujeres several times and this was by far the worst stay yet. We will not return here again!

Check in was easy and the front desk staff was very helpful. They arranged a great trip to Chichen Itza for us and got us cabs when needed. The beach was amazing, small and private. It would have been nice if the bar were open, but there were enough places within walking distance for libations. I would highly recommend this location to others who want a nice, quiet, laid back hotel.
