This farmers market is a little less hectic I'd say, and I dig it!…read more Nestled in a square parking lot, next to a few small businesses and a New Seasons, is the Orenco Farmers Market. Many times I've seen it and many times I've avoided it. But now I regret not checking it out the first time they opened up a few years ago. Here's a few tips and details: * Parking * Most folks park in the New Seasons parking lot, or down the residential streets. The times I've been here, the lot has never been full. So I've never had any issue finding parking. * Favorite Vendors * ~ The Pie Guy - out of North Plains. If you yelp that, you'll see why he's different. Love their variety of pies. ~ Pilgrim's Roasted Nut'z - Another North Plains favorite! You can literally go nuts buying more than one bag. ~ Kookido - UGH, mochi-filled cookies! I'm a mochi lover and chewy soft cookie kind of guy. These are heaven in a container! ~ Pablo Munoz Fruits - I'm all about their peaches and berries! ~ Martinez Family Farms - Come here early for these guys. They always have a long line to pay. ~ Favorite Produce - I dig their fresh flower bouquets. ~ Helvetia Vineyards & Winery - Another local wine favorite. Try a sample! ~ Baird Family Orchards - mmm mmm, gotta love them peaches! Especially their Sweet Sue yellow peaches. ~ Our Little Farm and Nursery - Haven't bought anything from these guys, but they're the ones that freshly roast peppers. People love'em! ~ Slow Rise Bakehouse - Located out of Forest Grove. Check out my ROTD for them ;) ~ Thompson Farms - The "pear guy"! He's picking bosc pears soon. I cannot wait! ~ Papa's Sunflower Seeds - Flavored roasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds. These are the guys that do team fundraising. ~ Ochoas Catering & Events - Necessito burrito! They wrap up fat burritos (and more) and their salsas are simply el mejor! For the most part, if it's a hot summer day, the market can close a bit early due to excessive heat. I've yet to go here on a rainy day. But in closing for my next visit, I'm trying the pasta lady, the hot sauce guy, and the fresh mini donuts. Oh and the mouthful momo stand. Support your locals folks!

I absolutely love visiting Orenco Station - Hillsboro market for the first time last weekend. From…read morethe moment you step foot into the market, you're greeted with the vibrant colors of fresh produce, hand-craft goods, yummy food, and more! It's a good opportunity to support local and small. Parking wasn't an issue as there is desinated parking areas in apartment lots in front of the market. My favorite part was the local food vendors! We grabbed momos (delicious), tacos (best tacos in Oregon in my opinion), and hummus. HIGHLIGHT OF MY WEEKEND! S/O to Ochoa Catering and Events and Hummus Spot for putting my partner and I in our taco and hummus era. The service from these vendors were great and it was fun chatting about how their business started. Orenco Station - Hillsboro market is laid back and a good break from the hustle and bustle of city life. We will be back!

Ok, so following my Tigard Farmer's Market review, I can't leave out the "other" FM in the area…read more That is BULL MOUNTAIN! Someone complained about there being 2 farmer's markets in the Tigard area. I thought this was funny. Yes, both markets are in Tigard, but have very different vibes and this market is now open both SATRURDAY and SUNDAY, where as the Tigard Market is only open Sundays. Some nice flowers here, also $10-15 per bouquet; fresh and lovely. They make a perfect arrangement, it's a work of art! La Provence makes an appearance to get your fresh pastries-nom nom nom! A few hot food items (the local Thai restaurant, a food truck), tables for enjoyment and some crafty things too like furniture, jewelry, art. A few funky finds to be had! They have great local produce here (Hint: raspberries here are usually better priced than all other farmer's markets in the area if stocking up to make jams). One of the things I LOVE most about this market is the farmers who own and actually work the land have a stand here. You don't have a wealthy business owner on his second career who inherited the family land trying to sell upscale veggies he paid workers under the table $3 per hour to pick. You get the honest to goodness farmer picked and sold in the palm of your hands. Some of the produce is so fresh here it lasts for 2 weeks (if you buy too much like I do), which is not unique to farmer's markets, but I swear it is fresher here. Great selection, too. Changes weekly, like all the other markets. And the people here are so friendly, not just the vendors, but the customers all seem happy and not in a rush. Oh, and just like their Tigard Cousin, they are DOG FRIENDLY! Pampered pooches don't have to sit at home or in the car...bring them here and they are well loved and welcome. It's more like a European market! The atmosphere is not fancy. It's parking lot quasi urban-getto compared to other FMs, but that's not a bad thing, as it provides some interesting passers by. You can't complain that this market is upscale, posh or high end. After all, it sits in the same parking lot as Harbor Freight, a pool hall, a suspect tavern, coin-op laundry mat, any one of these places has at least one person stumbling out their door for one reason or another responding to internal stimuli when I'm at this market. Always entertaining, I say! Love the Bull Mountain Market. Nice to have options in the area!

Also really appreciated some of the booths offering samples of their products! I usually only get food when I come to the farmers market, but I was tempted get a bouquet of flowers because they have the best flower arrangements! The Vancouver Farmer's Market is truly exceptional. They have a variety of vendors - jewelry,…read morecrafts, woodwork, cat nip, bakeries, veggies, produce, artisanal clothing, soaps, coffee, wine, plants, gorgous fresh flower bouquets - all lining wide streets making its easy to walk around and not be enveloped in crowds. In the late summer, early fall the fruit and produce is abundant! Juicy peaches, plums, cherries, the last of the blueberries and blackberries, rhubarb, eggplant, tricolored peppers, and beets fill the stalls. everything so colorful and delicious. Was excited to happen upon the Catnip Takeout booth filled with the most adorable handmade, felted cat toys that of course contain catnip. The owner gives you a takeout box and you fill it with the toys of your choice. She had veggies, mushrooms, hearts, eyeballs, bees, round balls, fruit- all adorable! since my house is very spa like with shades of cream, gray and blues, I was excited to find so many options in these colors. My cat immediately began batting the ball around the minute I gave it to her! The nursery here is the biggest and best I've ever seen at a Farmers Market. The variety of plants was impressive and all were healthy and thriving. they also sell sun catchers, perfect for inside a window or in your garden - every garden deserves a bit of whimsy imo. Lots of food carts serving a variety of cuisines. some are within the market, several more line the street on the outside of the market. The gyros caught my attention, the scent of grilled lamb everywhere. it didn't disappoint! I ordered the mega traditional which had extra meat so I could have half for lunch and the other half for dinner. Love that this market is open both Saturday and Sundays until 3pm April through October. Saturday they open at 9am; on Sundays they open at 10am. Parking is on the street, use parking kitty to pay. On a Sunday at 12:30 I had no issue finding a spot close by.
