The Second Stage Theatre is the former Stage Left Theatre.
I'm a big fan of smaller theater venues and this one certainly is, probably with seating for no more than 50 people. As much as I enjoy places like the Goodman, I love supporting fledgling smaller theater groups even more.
I saw a performance of "A Girl with Sun in Her Eyes," performed by the Pine Box Theater Company, which came highly recommended to me. It was one of the best plays I've seen in a long time. The play kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The play, which was told in flashbacks, was gritty and compelling, but I have to mention that I thought the acting was better than the material.
The theater is located near the Brown Line "L," and the rumbling of the "L" at several points throughout the play, added a nice touch, especially as this was a play set in Chicago.
Definitely go see this play before it ends its run on August 7th. We were able to score half-price tickets on Goldstar Events, so check it out. read more
