The reason I am writing my review…read morefor this studio is that it is the headquarters of GROOV3 and I've been taking a lot of virtual GROOV3 hip hop dance classes ever since the quarantine started. Like, obsessively! Because it's good for the soul and brings me so much joy!!! And we all really need that right now :) Beat Box is just one of the several studios that offer livestream dance classes on WollenDance. I'm a big fan of the Sunday morning livestreams with GROOV3 founder Ben Allen. Though if I miss the livestream, there are tons of Video on Demand classes from Beat Box available on the WollenDance website. Many GROOV3 instructors are also currently offering Zoom video chat classes throughout the week during the quarantine. I'm able to get the weekly schedule from @groov3dance on IG. I like the Zoom classes with Mychele and Natalie. The GROOV3 instructors are not only great dancers, but they are also really good at breaking down the steps in the routine. First you review in half time, then in full time. After you learn an 8-count, you learn the next 8-count. It's very easy for me to follow along and the music they play is the kind of music you wanna sing along to. A lot of 90s jams and 2000s. The friendly instructors do a great job of making you feel included and they are the ultimate hype people! I can't dance as good as them but they often make me feel like I'm the best dancer they've seen...lol! Quick shoutout to my GROOV3 instructors Anne and Cristina whose classes I've attended in person at other studios before the quarantine. I look forward to the day that I can go back to taking GROOV3 classes in person again. Especially since one of the Zoom instructors teaches at Beat Box and her virtual class is awesome! There was parking on one side of the street only the other side was parking for business in the area with "do not park/tow away" signs posted everywhere. The flyer stated doors open @ 6pm...we were in line from 5:45pm standing in the cold (it had just stopped raining) till about 6:35pm. In addition dinner was supposed to be @7:00pm they, didn't serve dinner till about 8:20pm. In addition, there were other items on the flyer they didn't fulfill. I would have left long before we did but we wanted to see Howard Hewett which didn't come out till almost 9:00pm. He performed for about 30 mins., as expected he was outstanding...there's nothing like old school. Yes it's safe to say, I will never attend another Moodsetters Production event...even If the tickets are free.

The parking lot is rather small, about 10 spaces. But usually not a problem. There is limited street parking. The 4 studios, A,B,C,D, are clean and the equipment is pretty good and new-ish. Clean restroom. For a couple of bucks they offer coffee, sodas, snacks. Yes, there are a few unhoused people (bums) wandering the neighborhood and alleys. But I haven't had any problems. My main complaint is the soundproofing is not very good and the noise from adjacent studios is sometimes deafening and interferes with our rehearsals/recording. The bass from the adjacent studio last night actually hurt my ears. This needs to be fixed. Other than that, it's pretty good.

I first used Rocinante Studios in 2018 to help my client producer create ADR (Automated Dialogue…read moreRecording) for his feature film. The filming had been completed, but certain dialogue needed to be re-recorded by the actors. Campbell, the owner of the studio, was first rate in every aspect. He is patient, helpful and an expert sound engineer. He worked with my client and the actors to get the recordings to match beautifully, did all the the post-production work (editing, mixing, etc.) and did so super efficiently. The movie ended up looking and sounding terrific. In 2022, Campbell recorded the entire audiobook for one of my clients who is an author. They scheduled the recording so that my client could do it in manageable chunks of three hours a day. After each day recording, Campbell would go through that day's recordings, make any edits needed, mark the spots he felt could be re-recorded, and sent them to the author so that she could have her input. The audiobook came out beautifully. Throughout this time, I have used Rocinante Studios to record dialogue for my own audiobooks, video game voiceovers, as well as audio exercises for my students (I am a Voice & Speech Coach). Campbell and his partner Suz are a joy to work with. They are super fair in their pricing, very amenable to working with us in terms of scheduling, and most importantly, provide top-tier recording results. The studio is also set up for music recording. Although I haven't used Rocinante for that purpose, I have listened to the music recordings made there and they are all top top-quality. This is a great studio to work with!
