Tl;DR: Sterling is a great and honest electrician. He helped save me thousands of dollar by giving me his assessment of my project. I had an issue where several outlets stopped working. I contacted an electrician through yelp and he came by ran some tests and told me I had to run new wires through my house and said the wires were getting hotter than normal. The project would cost 4k and that didn't include repair to my drywall. I sat with that quote for a few days and contacted SD Electric. When Sterling came he was professional and communicated well through the yelp app. He ran some tests and determined that the breaker was bad. I had a disappointing experience with this electrician. I initially contacted him to install a bathroom exhaust fan and a door chime, and I was quoted $250 for both jobs. During our phone conversation, I specifically mentioned that the exhaust fan is a moisture-sensing model that should automatically turn on and off based on humidity. He sounded very confident and said he had done many similar jobs before. After completing the installation, he told me that the moisture control feature is built into the fan. I also mentioned I had a few light switches I wanted to replace. These switches were all working fine and only needed cosmetic updates, and he indicated this would be a simple add-on. However, after spending about 2.5 hours, the pricing changed and was charged on an hourly basis, bringing the total to $625--far higher than the original quote. After the job is done, he claimed the exhaust fan was working. Yes, it works if you manually turn it on or off, but the moisture-sensing feature does not function at all. After taking a 30-minute shower, the fan did not turn on automatically. I had to turn it on manually, and even after 2 hours, the fan did not turn off on its own. I have installed the exact same model of exhaust fan in my other house before, so I know the correct behavior. However, the installation done here is completely wrong, as the fan does not operate as it should. Additionally, the door chime is still not functioning. As a result, I now have to hire another electrician to redo the work. In fact, having incomplete or incorrect work is worse than not starting at all, as it has wasted both my time and money. Overall, the work was not completed as expected, the pricing was not consistent with the original quote, and the results were unsatisfactory.
