    BES - Bilingual European School

As a parent with several years of experience at the Bilingual European School (BES) in Milan, I can…read moresadly say that the school has changed dramatically -- and not for the better -- since the arrival of the new management under Globeducate. What used to be a small, nurturing community with a strong focus on student wellbeing and academic balance has turned into a chaotic, poorly managed environment that seems to prioritise corporate image over the actual needs of children. The new campus opened this year as an active construction site: classes have been running for months amid noise, dust and unfinished areas. Students have spent breaks sitting indoors because outdoor spaces were unsafe. Promises about safety, communication and organisation were repeatedly broken or delayed, while parents received little transparency or accountability. The change in staff has also been drastic -- most of the experienced teachers left over the summer after refusing new contracts, leaving students to adapt to an almost entirely new faculty. This has seriously affected continuity and morale. Communication from leadership is inconsistent, often dismissive, and at times openly gaslighting. Parents' legitimate concerns about safety, learning quality and emotional wellbeing have been met with vague reassurances and shifting blame -- from the city of Milan's permits to "miscommunication" to "parent perception." Academically, the situation is equally concerning. The school seems to have lost the solid structure and human warmth that once made it unique. The current approach feels experimental, disconnected from both the Italian and international standards it claims to uphold. What is most painful is witnessing the loss of the sense of belonging and joy that once defined BES. Many students now describe their school as "cold," "empty," even "like a hospital." That alone should tell you everything. Until leadership takes real responsibility, communicates honestly, and restores both safety and trust, I cannot recommend BES to any family. The reputation it once had has been replaced by frustration, disappointment, and a deep sense of betrayal.
