My wife and I became Open Water certified through the Playground Dive Shop. I have lots of…read morewater-related anxiety and was concerned how I would do, but I was determined to try because I wanted to Scuba dive on our first trip to Hawaii. Our instructor, Chad, is one of the most patient teachers I've met. He worked with me and made our classes fit what I felt comfortable doing until I was able to do all the skills, pushing me just enough to try, but not so much to get discouraged. He spent the time to make sure didn't just learn the skills, but felt comfortable with them before our open water dives. He even went the extra mile to make we we had enough pool time to get make the open water trip that was scheduled before our vacation. We were so happy with them (and discovered we LOVE scuba) that we have since gone back for our Advanced certification and a handful of specialty classes to help us be better divers and pursue other interested aspects of diving. We've also taken a diving trip with them, and Jenn worked hard to make sure everything was in order and that our traveling and diving experience was the best, and it was. Beyond the training the dive shop staff have been great to work with as we've tried to get the gear and service we need. I'd recommend Playground Dive Shop to anyone looking for new certifications or equipment.

She came home gushing about this very cool pool that had a lazy river - she had me at lazy river. Black Bob Bay is located within an Olathe City park and it's honestly one of the cooler pools that is owned by a municipality that i've been to in the KC area. There is an expansive pool for grown ups and kids, along with a baby pool, a kid friendly pool with a water slide and tons of water features, and a lazy river. 4/5 and not 5/5 for three main reasons: 1. there isn't a great system in place to make sure folks don't hog the tubes for the lazy river. It's sort of a free for all and on a busy day it's akin to the hunger games to snag one. When I got to the area where they kept them and a dad was trying to hoard the final three, I gave him a look and he did give me very sad looking one so I could go with my daughter. I really wish they'd manage this better by maybe giving time limits or not letting single adults take the double tubes when they are going solo. I saw so much of this and it was such a waste of resources on a busy day. 2. they need to find a better way to keep the ground cooler - if it's putting more misters around or something else, I'm not sure, but I am sure my feet nearly burnt off trying to get from the pool to the lazy river. 3. The adult swim/ random pool closures was a lot. We were there for maybe an hour and a half and I think we had to get out at least two times for more than 15 minutes each, which seemed a bit extreme. Overall this is a fun pool. It could be better, but it's a good value and we would return.

Dave professionally took us thru the process for open water certification. I was completely prepared when I went for my first ocean dive which made the experience so amazing! He made sure I was completely ready thru all stages of training before moving on. I can't wait to continue diving and certainly will try and go on some of the group dives he leads thru the year!
