They no longer return phone calls or emails which makes running a business even more challenging. They provide dates to submit your return info online then extend you anyways despite meeting those deadlines and expect you to pay for the extensions even though you did your part correctly. Darren first met me a few years back and met me on short notice when I needed something. When he saw what I was doing at my new business in 2016 he recognized I needed a planning session. In that session he made me realize I had to pay myself per IRS guidelines. Even though I was not actually profiting (putting money in my pocket) on paper I was. Fast forward to COVID19 and the PPP program...because I was paying myself a salary, no matter how small it was. I was able to get a portion of my PPP forgiven for my pay. Other's with the same franchise as I have, did not pay themselves and therefore 1) are not following IRS guidelines and 2) missed out on PPP and unemployment. This season I took a weekend and locked myself at a hotel to focus on cleaning up my taxes. It was a holiday weekend as well. I messaged Blake not expecting to necessarily hear anything until Tuesday. He responded within minutes to my email. We had some back and forth over how to enter EIDL, PPP, and even a grant from the city and county. All on a Saturday over a holiday weekend. What commitment. They get it that I am a small business guy that is stressed out. I think you get the idea. They are a solid 5-star company!
