I noticed 'Scientology Centre Cafe' on maps whilst I was on the tram one day. I was curious if this was open to the public, so I gave them a call, and they welcome all visitors.
I was apprehensive at first. The church definitely has a reputation, and the cafe was not advertised anywhere - but I figured it would be an interesting experience, so I went to the centre with my partner.
Upon entering you walk through a book store and into reception. You're greeted by a concierge who asks a few questions; offers a tour of the centre, a personality test, standard stuff. I indicated I just wanted to visit the cafe - and the concierge walked me down and wished me a good visit. I was very surprised - I imagined it would be very 'full on', but there were more than welcome to have us come in, dine, and go about our day.
There is no menu, the food changes per day, and per meal [Breakfast, lunch, and dinner] It's more of a work cafeteria style. Today's lunch option was a beef burrito. It was a little early, so I opted for a ready made Egg Salad Wrap and Chia Pudding and coffee. Was still a bit peckish, so I also ordered an Oreo Muffin.
Honestly, the food and coffee were delicious. I was surprised. The wrap was delicious despite being premised. The muffin was fresh and home made. I gave everything was home made. The coffee was the biggest surprise - likely one of the best coffees I've had north-west of the city.
I am not a Scientologist, I am not a member. If you want a very unique and curious cafe adventure, I would 100% recommend paying a visit. read more
