When I met Mike I had just been shocked to find that my marriage was over and everything I had ever…read moreworked for was in jeopardy. I felt completely lost and overwhelmed with fear of the unknown. As soon as the meeting was over I felt the first sense of hope that I had felt in a few months. Mike explained to me what was really going to take place. He also advised me on how to conduct myself and prepare to generate the best possible outcome which is extremely important. He was responsive via phone, email and text whenever I needed him...even when I interrupted his family vacation (sorry Mike!). Mike knows the law and he's not afraid to stand up on behalf of his client to protect their rights even when he's standing before the judge on your behalf. Thanks to Mike Schmitt I came out of this divorce in so much better shape than I could have ever allow myself to think possible when I walked into his office for the first time feeling all defeated. He is the only Divorce Attorney that I have and will continue to recommend to friends facing the same life changing experience. "MONEY"... For everyone that is the first concern when hiring a lawyer. Mike listened to my situation and his first priority was giving me the help I needed. When it came to money he worked within my means and was extremely affordable especially considering the level of representation that he provides. To be fair, the results he delivered outweighed anything he charged me by a long margin. Mike's a no BS attorney and a no BS business man. You can go elsewhere and pay 4 times as much but you're not going to get 4 times the representation... you're just paying for another law firms billboards and radio commercials! If you're reading this, you're probably in a tough spot and I remember that feeling. Do yourself a favor and set an appointment with Mike. For me it was literally the moment that I started the process of taking back the control over my life and future. For me to take the time to write this long of a review I hope you'll recognize it's because I'm just so thankful and I hope he can help others the way he has helped me.

He had no problem getting paid an upfront feel to consult on the divorce, then asked for a retain. After I paid the retainer, I simply never heard from him. He was completely unresponsive. I made multiple attempts to reach out by email, phone...and no responses. I needed to get responses to the other council in and he had me way behind. I finally had to pull my retainer and find a new attorney. He, not I chose that he would forward all of my paperwork I had forwarded him to the new attorney and he would forward the retainer. He retained over 80% of my significant retainer and sent very little to the new attorney. Felt that was a very disappointing experience.

I was literally ignored by the WC Insurance Company and by my employer, actually it was worse than that. So I decided that it is time to reach out and I emailed Segar & Sciortino. My call was returned by Cristian Cruzado and he was patient and listened to me. While my case is still being sorted out at this time, and it might be a while until we can put it behind me, without Cristian's work, advice and guidance, I would still be lost and most definitely would have given up which is precisely what my employer, their lawyers and the WC Insurance had in mind from the beginning. I absolutely recommend Segar & Sciortino and especially Cristian Cruzado!!!

The person I spoke with indicated that the people who said I should retain a lawyer don't have their law degree and that I shouldn't believe everything I read on the internet. I can also prepare a Health Care Proxy, Living Will and Power of Attorney if desired" she boasted to us on that date. We informed her that time was of the essence..it needed to be done before June 4, 2024. "We have plenty of time" she responded with. On March 22, 2024, she wrote "I'll review and will contact you to discuss any necessary modifications." It is now 5 weeks later, and this woman has gone AWOL. Not a single communication of any sort, nada, zip, zero! When you call her office, you get a recording stating "my preferred method of communication is through email." OK...we obliged. Result from that email 6 days ago as of this writing? Nada, zip, zero! So...now we call her office a SECOND time, but this time we left a voice message (since her "preferred method of communication" has obviously fallen on deaf ears). Result from our voicemail message 3 days ago as of this writing? Nada, zip, zero!! This woman doesn't even have the decency and common courtesy to return messages. Update! Today, FINALLY we received an email which reads: "Sorry, I was on vacation visiting my mom in Florida when you emailed last week. I have a lot going on right now and I know that you're anxious to proceed. I am referring you to......" Uh what? Are you kidding?! We've just lost 5 full weeks! We have NOTHING to show for our trust in this attorney. If you've got unlimited time and patience for a bait and switch attorney with zero communications skills to massage a document as important as a Last Will and Testament...then by all means, this is your attorney!!

October 20, 2015…read more Betsy is by far the best divorce attorney!! I went to several consultations, spent over $1,000, and didn't feel comfortable with any of them. They all made me feel that in NYS it didn't matter who made what financially, or who was in the wrong, you couldn't change the law. Basically, the less time you were married, the less you were entitled to. Divorce is a stressful time for anyone, especially when you are the victim. Most attorneys' treat it strictly as a business contract, forgetting the emotional turmoil you're experiencing. They just want to hear the facts, and paint the realistic picture, which is usually pretty bleak. Betsy Album is the exception. From the moment I met her, I knew she was the person I wanted to represent me. She is extremely professional, and her bedside manner is superb. She took the facts, and came up with a game plan. I was hesitant to ask for much of anything with being told "I wasn't going to get it in NY." Well, turns out I didn't have to, with Mrs. Album. Using her expertise, she developed a proposal with all my best interest in mind. She is continuing to fight for me, and the end is near. Using the old cliché, I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and with Betsy Album it's bright.
