Visiting Schuler's is a must if you're in the Marshall area! The restaurant has a charming, old-timey feel and is very cozy with a fireplace and beautiful decor. The managers are lovely people, and servers are always friendly and attentive. And, of course, the food is amazing! You can't go wrong with anything in the menu. But make sure you try the cheese spread and crackers as an appetizer - it is so good! They also have baked goods available for sale, all baked in-house. My family is obsessed with the scones and the peanut butter cookies. I can't recommend Schuler's enough for your next dinner or date plans! read more

Pricey! Nothing complementary. I thought in the past they offered their cheese and crackers to the table instead it's a $12 appetizer. Had cheese and crackers and seafood chowder ($12), it was good but not great. Majority of table ordered the French dip ($20) or Fish and chips ($20). The fish looked overcooked. Nestled in downtown Marshall in the Social district, Schulers is as historic as it is delicious. You have your choice to sit in the less formal bar lounge, but if you're looking for a supper club type vibes- do the restaurant side. Our beers were ice cold, and all of our food was delicious. Obviously had to go with the cheese dip appetizer, but was wowed by a house salad? Yes you read that right. Guys don't sleep on the house garlic dressing.. it's made in house, and is just.. wow. My tomato basil soup was the best I've EVER had, and my grilled cheese was top tier. Also- don't sleep on the Turkey Reuben. Had a very nice family meal November 8. Came back later for dessert. Our Creme Brulee was a major disappointment. The portion was so small it did not even fill half the ramikin. The "raspberry" topping was a messy splash of sauce. For $11.25, it was not worth it and damaged an otherwise nice experience. I wonder if a good waiter would have noticed it and taken that dessert back and let the kitchen know it was not up to Schuler's standards. read more

Kalamazoo Air Zoo and their magnificent collection of aircraft and then to the Gilmore Car Museum and seeing automotive works of art....Dinner at Schuler's was absolutely Brilliant, Wonderful, Superb! We walk in without reservations and were promptly seated. Within a nanosecond our service appears, she goes over the menu and I inquire if an end cut of the prime rib is available. She returns with our drinks and with a smile lets me know she has secured the end cut for me. We both order the prime rib, regular cut for Terry and the end for me. Our appetizer was their famous bar cheese and crackers and it was excellent. Our server timed our main course perfectly. Two prime ribs arrived looking like they were staged for a magazine photo shoot. Sides were assorted vegetables and potatoes, but who wants to dwell on veggies when one is a carnivore? Needless to say when two guys are having dinner and two perfectly prepared cuts of meat are served, there isn't much conversation going on. We both agreed this was one of the best prime ribs we've had. The servings were more than generous leaving no room for dessert. For an excellent dinner, Schuler's is worth a visit, even if it's a 200 mile ride to get there. read more

I hadn't been here in quite a few years, and my husband didn't remember being here although I had brought him here once before. We walked in on a Sunday afternoon without reservations, no problem, and we're quickly seated in the main dining room. It was as good as when I had been there back in the late 80s and early 90s. And really, not much had changed, which was fine with me! The bar cheese is still outstanding, and the prime rib was delicious. And the service is still as good as always. We hosted our rehearsal dinner at Schuler's Pub for our February wedding, and we truly could not have imagined a better place to kick off our wedding weekend. From the first interaction to the final toast, everything about our experience was exceptional. Elizabeth was an absolute joy to work with. She was incredibly responsive via email--always prompt, clear, and thorough in answering our many questions. On top of that, she met with us multiple times in person to walk through everything, which gave us so much peace of mind. She took the time to understand our vision for the evening and was so flexible and accommodating throughout the entire planning process. One of the things that impressed us most was how Schuler's handled our décor. We brought in our own decorations, and not only were they completely open to it--they offered to and did set everything up for us on the day of the event. It was such a relief to know that we could focus on enjoying time with our family and friends without worrying about those last-minute details. Elizabeth also went over the full layout with us ahead of time so we knew exactly what to expect, and everything was executed exactly as discussed. The private space in the back of the pub was perfect--spacious yet cozy, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The highlight was the beautiful fireplace, which created the perfect winter ambiance for our February celebration. The food was, as always, fabulous. We've eaten at Schuler's before and knew the quality was great, but they somehow outdid themselves for the rehearsal dinner. Everything came out hot, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Our guests are still talking about how good the meal was! Another standout was how accommodating they were with allergies and dietary restrictions. We had guests with specific food needs, and the staff was so understanding and flexible, making sure everyone felt comfortable and taken care of. It's not always easy to find that level of attention to detail, and we were very grateful. A huge bonus: Schuler's has hotel rooms right upstairs, which made things even easier for our out-of-town guests. Overall, we cannot recommend Schuler's highly enough for a rehearsal dinner--or any private event. The service, food, atmosphere, and organization were top-notch, and Elizabeth made us feel completely taken care of every step of the way. It was the perfect beginning to our wedding weekend, and we'll always be grateful to the Schuler's team for helping make it so special. read more

I've wanted to visit this place for years, since my grandmas gentleman friend jokingly said if you don't take your osteoporosis medicine, we're going to McDonald's instead of Schuler's for our anniversary. The timing was right because I was visiting for fall break, and we decided to go here for lunch. They are a part of charming Marshall Michigan, and the inside of Schuler's is ornate and full of history. I had tasty tomato soup and grilled cheese, which is one of my favorite meals, I also had a pumpkin spice White Russian, which is the perfect fall cocktail. Hard to believe after 52 years the BBQ Meatballs are on the menu! They are super tender and super delicious!! Whenever we are lucky enough to be here that is always our appetizer of choice! Brooke was our server. She was excellent. It was evident by how few servers we saw that they were severely short on staff. The Hostess and a Manager were often seen helping clear tables or assisting with beverages. It is a special team that collaborate to make sure that the guests needs are met. Since I was privileged to be a manager of such a team at one time I really understand the meaning of this. It was great to realize how well everyone was working together. I have always wanted to try the Traverse Bay Salad which is a Michigan based concoction, containing dried cherries, as well as premium lettuces, chunks of blue cheese, candied pecans, tomatoes, cucumbers and a delicious balsamic vinaigrette. You can add chicken or salmon but I really just wanted the salad as I knew I was going to also order some of their Crackers and Famous Schuler's Bar Cheese. (another item I just can't live without when I'm here!) everything I had was delicious and lived up to my memories and expectations. Hubby had a bowl of Seafood Chowder- it looked good and he assured me it was delicious! So, as we are both in our 70s we don't know how many more times we will make it back but I am so glad that we stopped as it was a great meal and a great experience and to top it all off brought back really special memories! I will put a copy of the bill so you can see the cost which also is very reasonable in this day and time. My mom and I stopped at Schuler's en route to Detroit from Chicago for lunch. If you don't know the history, Win Schuler was a restaurateur known as the "consummate host". He won many awards in his field and his name was synonymous with hospitality. I'm sorry to say that given this backstory, the experience we had was a bit lackluster. Staff and food were fine, but nothing was terribly outstanding (mom had a salad, I had a french dip sandwich). We started out with their "Heritage Cheese Spread," a purportedly healthier version of the classic "Bar Scheeze" once served at Win Schuler's (now trademarked by Vlasic Foods and sold at stores like Meijers); again, tasty enough but nothing to knock your socks off. I noticed that my mother and I appeared to be the two youngest diners in the place at lunch on a Friday, so maybe the others are there due to nostalgia. The restaurant does seem to be trying to diversify by opening the Schuler Apartments upstairs. Hope it's successful given the history and that they strike the balance between old school cool and new innovations. read more

Known for its iconic history dating back to 1909, Schulers have been forever known to serve high quality fare of wonderful appetizers and still have that historic ambience. Server Amanda was very friendly for the visit to Schulers Restaurant; attentive with prices and with which food to recommend. She always asks if we ever need anything to tide us over such as fresh water in a glass. The Brussels sprouts and the brisket sandwiches my mom and I shared were exceptionally delicious. From the presentation and taste perspective, I liked how well the restaurant puts love and dedication in the food they prepped. Schuler's is our go-to for a special evening. Dinner on December 26 was family gathering with my mother, her sister, my siblings and their spouses as well as my husband, son & I. We had a little bit of everything on the menu - meatballs and bread & cheese spread for appetizers, soups, salads and a variety of entrees. Everything was delicious!. Nice to know this classic is still good!! Have many fond memories of eating at Schuler's for special occasions when I was a kid. Went for lunch after Christmas shopping with friends downtown. I had the Mediterranean Chicken Sandwich on gluten-free bread, and it was delicious. My friends all enjoyed their grilled cheese and tomato soup. And of course we started with the famous bar cheese and crackers - yummy!! On June 20th, we celebrated our 51st Anniversary at Win Schuler's in Marshall, Michigan. Reservations were made through Mr. Tyler Asher, Manager. He was professional & cordial. Upon arrival, we were seated by the fireplace. Mr. Asher returned to our table several times to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. Our waiter, Burdette, attended to our every request. He was fun & professional in every way. During the meal, Mr. Asher arranged for, two very nice coffee mugs to be delivered to our table, as a gift from Win Schuler's. The prime rib was excellent. We took a road ramble over to Marshall on a sunny Saturday and stopped in at Schuler's for dinner before heading back home. The atmosphere is fun. We ate in the pub section. It's a bit pricey because it's a famous restaurant in the area but the food was excellent. We got a couple of the sandwiches to split. We got the Winston's French Dip and the Two Napkin Beef Brisket sandwich. Both were delicious and came with fries. The service was friendly and helpful. read more
