We took her a dog friendly beach, then a North Shore poke spot for lunch (where Big Momma lounged on their deck while we ate) and then over to Matsumoto's for shaved ice for us, and a pup cup of unflavored shaved ice for Big Momma , and then a quick stop at the Dole pineapple plantation before heading back to the Oahu SPCA. The doctor was pleasant and gentle with our dog, which we appreciated. During our second visit, we worked with a different vet tech who was also kind and professional. It has been a while since we've had a dog, so I was a little surprised by the cost of the visit and vaccinations. I did find it helpful that they itemize the services, which allows you to see exactly what you are paying for and decide what you would like to move forward with. One difference from our previous vet is that they take the dogs to the back area to administer shots. Our last vet did everything in front of us, so that was something new for us. Overall, we were satisfied with our experience and appreciated how kind the staff was with our dog. We look forward to seeing how things continue as we bring our dog in for future visits.

I would like to add that in the original phone call on 5/5, I did request to speak to a manager or Doctor at least twice. Call me a Karen, but I really wanted to speak to someone higher up to see if an exception could be made but the receptionist told me that the managers and Doctors will not make an exception. Clearly, there is a break in communication there because an exception was made and Donna did mention to me on the phone call she had no idea about the scheduling mistake until I made my initial Yelp review. Reader's Note: I did not attend the vet appointment due to having a prior commitment so my MIL took Komori. Everything I state about the appointment is from her POV. My MIL said Komori was comfortable and well cared for and we were able to get all our questions answered about Komori's health. Overall, it seemed like a great first experience. Why did I take off a star? - Maybe this is just a personal preference but apparently they didn't give Komori any treats. At his old clinic, the Doctors and Vet Tech constantly gave him treats or at the appropriate moments to make him more comfortable. I believe that because this was a first appointment, to ease Komori's anxiety of a new place, new people doing random things to him, some treats should be offered or used to associate a positive memory with going to the vet. - After Komori came home from his vaccinations we noticed the injection site was swollen. We also noticed if we pet him a certain way at the injection site, he would yelp/whimper so it must hurt. This never happened at his old clinic which is a YELLOW FLAG for concern. This review is 36 hours after his appointment and it is still swollen. If this does not go down, we will be returning to check on it. Overall, if we don't come back to check on the injection site, we will be coming back for any follow-up appointments. Waipio Pet Clinic has obviously proven with past Yelp reviews that they are a great clinic, which is why we considered coming here in the first place (besides how close it is to our home). We are grateful for management for communicating with us and correcting the scheduling issue we had previously and look forward to growing a stronger relationship with them moving forward.

Recently Kolu hurt his neck and I was able to get an appointment that same morning. He was uncomfortable when we arrived and hadn't eaten any of his breakfast and treats. By the time we left he was taking treats and looked like his normal self. He LOVES all his doctors, front desk, and vet tech aunties. They are all so compassionate and they always take such good care of him.

The Vet, Dr Pang, had poor bedside manner. Came in already dismissive of my complaints for my dog. She wasn't prepared when she came in the room. As if she didn't know why I was there. Said she couldn't examine my dogs nostrils because my dog is excited and keeps moving. Said we needed to sedate my dog. Didn't have any light or anything to look at my dogs nose. Some questions/comments she made that were annoying: "Are you sure she's five months old, she seems older cause she's big" "How did you look in your dogs nose?" "She's not sneezing now" "She seems to be breathing normal" (her first time meeting my dog, doesn't know my dog is not a mouth breather) "Did you hear reverse sneezing" (as if i know what that is) I had to get on the floor to help hold my dog so she would look at both nostrils or try to with a light. Also theres an exam table not sure why we're on the floor. She offered very little info into what she thought was going on with my dog. Only discussed further when i kept asking questions. She prescribed a steroid taper but on the bottle the instructions were incorrect did not indicate a taper. Did not appreciate her bedside manner and lack of trying to look at my dog for the issue i brought her in for. Then as i was leaving i got blocked in to the small parking lot by an employee that parked her truck with the bed blocking the way out. That employee came out and saw me unable to leave but waited till i asked her to move the truck to move it. Gets two stars because of the front staff.
