Really nice place to go for a walk. Small passages and the architecture of the houses makes you feel you're in a Disney Fairy Tale!

The Bremen City Musicians NEVER made it to Bremen. I want to point that out before I talk about…read morethis statue IN Bremen. This statue is one of those things that you go to see when you go to a city to check the box. Everyone else is also there doing the same thing. The queueing system is inexistent and very disorganized. You have to wait until you can jump in to rub the foot and get a photo. People are super annoying and they linger in the frame while waiting for the photo, thus ruining your photo by being in it. This is not the statue's fault, but be prepared to be annoyed too by rude people. The statue has a base so it is tall for smaller children. One plus side for this statue is the location. If you are going to see it, you will be in the center of Bremen and in a good position to venture on and explore the city.

I've always loved the story of the Musicians of Bremen. So when I visited the city, of course I had…read moreto check out this sculpture. There isn't much to it. A visit involves looking at the statue, taking a photo, and moving on. But what more do you want? It's a really nice statue, and is also used on the logo of the city, so it has a lot of significance. When I was there, there was a football match between Werder Bremen and Schalke 04, and some Schalke fans threw their scarf onto the animals- controversial! The beautiful city of Bremen is a place you must visit, and the Stadtmusikanten statue is a simple and worthwhile place to stop off while you're there.

A truly impressive, humbling, awe-inspiring, faith-evoking cathedral, built (and rebuilt) in an age…read morebefore the advent of strip malls and big box stores, when both buildings, and people, had more soul. Haunting echoes of choir singing echo through the nave and reverberate throughout its immense interior, save for the isolated "silent room" downstairs, set aside for quiet reflection and prayer. Radiant light, refracted through stained glass portals high above, casts scattered, sparkling patterns across the ancient stone walls and pillars. Tucked away in an alcove, an altar ensconcing several dozen lit and unlit candles stewards the burning memories and prayers of parishioners and visitors alike. In places this grandiose, even the faithless walk with silent steps and heads bowed, either in awe, or reverence; the effect is the same, regardless of what you want to call it.

This is an amazingly gorgeous church in the center of Bremen…read more IT is a very popular church with tourists, mainly because it is so beautiful, but there is a ton of history - as in being rebuilt a number of times as well as a museum with ancient relics from previous bishops that had been buried there. The outside and the inside is very pretty, huge, and tons of color in the ceiling and the walls. There is a silent room that you should check out, on the left side of the church down a flight of stairs. It is requested that you stay silent - many people don't but, really, one should. The room is all stone, crypt like, and neat to just sit for a moment and enjoy!

I shouldn't have been…read moresurprised, as he *is* German, this *is* his home town, and he was visiting his mother for Christmas. The surprising part came when, as he was leading me on a tour through the enchanting neighborhood known as the Schnoor, we ran into a *second* co-worker! What are the odds?! And, since he was also German, I now had two tour guides to lead me through this historic district, that somehow survived firebombing in World War II! Cobbled streets, narrow alleyways (some barely larger than shoulder-width, forcing my much-larger tour guides to have to shimmy sideways to pass through), adorable shops and restaurants with gabled roofs, lamplit signs; all the charms of a world gone by have been preserved here, tucked away in the heart of the otherwise modern, bustling, urban metropolis of Bremen, like the remnants of a lost, magical kingdom! If I could, I would raze every strip mall, chain restaurant and dive bar on Earth, burying the current zeitgeist's trend of uninspired, mass-market, capitalist dreck, in order to build a new architectural landscape, comprised of neighborhoods like the Schnoor. If only more places in the world (or at least, back home in America) were like this!
