I was here with my partner and friends for our a weekend trip. It was really amazing, I was able to see the oldest working boat lift in Germany personally.
My first impression of the lift, it was huge and complex design. It caught my eyes pretty soon, really like the beautiful mechanic appearance and complexity. You can see and feel how the older german engineering tech still working really well in the present day. That's pretty amazing.
This place is quite famous inside Germany actually, so beside boats, there are also many tourists around. I'm not sure if there are direct bus to this place. it seem like everybody just drive their own way here. we did also. The entrance ticket was quite cheap. It cost 2 euro. But remember to carry some coins, The ticket machine only accept coins. After the entrance/exit, we were able to walk along the whole lift, form bottom to the top. It was really nice to be able to see it even closer, so much details. On the top of the life (which the other side of the river) we could see the whole view about this place, not only that, also the actual lifting. It was really brilliant experience. Well, probably not so much for people have problem with high. Somehow i did find it a bit pity, there were not so much things going on beside the boat lift around here. I do understand that most people just come here for the lift though.
They were working a new project on there other side when we were there. i heard they are building a new one. Well, I got no idea when it will be finished, but I am pretty sure when it's done, we will visit again. read more
