We decided to do the Kinder Prep Camp after having done the Friendship Club, and were very…read moredisappointed with the lack of compassion and accommodation for our anxious 5-year-old compared to all the other regular camps we did this summer. We received a call within an hour of him being at the camp that he was stressed and overstimulated and didn't want to participate, so he was going to need extra support to stay. This was shocking to me considering how little time he had been there, that the point of it was to help kids adjust to kindergarten, and that their ratio was 2 adults to 7 kids. They told me that he consistently improved over the course of the first day and further improved on the second day, but that it would be too costly to keep another adult there to help him. It was sad for us because he left on a high note, telling me that he'd made a friend and that he had done a better job staying in the group. He clearly felt like a success and I wish he'd been given the opportunity to continue improving, but I didn't want him to stay at a camp where the facilitators believed that he was too much for them. He successfully did a year of TK last year and several other camps this summer, some with a ratio of 1 adult to 16 kids. CSC was polite to me and pro-rated me the other days, but it was upsetting because I assumed the most expensive camp I signed up for this summer (held at a therapy location) would be the greatest success, not the one camp that had to call me about an issue. This camp may work out for kids who are already very familiar with their gym environment and don't really need that much help when they feel anxious, but if you're looking for something that will help your child if they struggle in a new environment, this does not seem like the best choice. Some camps that worked well for us this summer were Pedalheads, Compass Clinic's Friendship Island Camp, Campbell Hall's Creative Arts Camp, and Destination Science.

We had our last session with Emmy today and we were so sad about it! We were with Emmy for two…read moremonths starting when my son was 20 months old, who wasn't babbling or saying any words save for some animal sounds, and the progress he made in those 7 weeks was nothing short of remarkable. He's babbling, using a lot of sign language to communicate, and has started saying a ton more words. Having gone with him to every session, I also learned a lot about how to better communicate with my son and how to give him the tools he needs to succeed. The only reason we left Pediatric Therapy Playhouse was because we qualified for the free early intervention program through the state -- otherwise we would've stayed with Emmy! I would've gladly continued to make the 45-min drive twice a week to see her. My son became more and more comfortable every session and she made sure she evaluated his needs every day by dimming the lights, getting on his level and using the toys he's comfortable with. She was present for his discharge meeting at UCLA and presented that she would continue his therapy and when it was the week we were suppose to return they abandoned my son. The general consensus was that my little guy just had a speech delay and would eventually catch up. His progress would plateau quickly, and it felt like something was missing or just wasn't clicking for him. Word-of-mouth led us to an assessment with Lisa when my son was about 2.5 years old. From the very first session, I could tell she really got him. Lisa immediately (correctly) suspected apraxia and began using a completely different approach tailored to his needs. The progress he has made in just five months has been nothing short of amazing. Lisa's expertise is unmatched, and you can feel how deeply invested she is in helping your child succeed. Jonathan was 4 when he started after his teacher at school said he needed to see a speech therapist. He started in office, but what I really liked about Kim's model was that they offered remote therapy - a gift when you have several kids that you have to take back and forth from school! So before Covid-19 even hit California, he was already doing remote sessions and it was great. My son did not have to be pulled out from school and miss anything. He was able to do therapy after school at home. When California was shut down, he was so fortunate to be able to continue his therapy!!! I can't thank Kim and her team enough for having this platform. Jonathan's speech has improved so much and he's learning so much new vocabulary. After doing some research for speech therapists in my area, I found Kim through reviews online. I…read morewas looking for a solution to a stutter that developed later in life for me, that was only triggered by high stress situations. I wasn't sure what else I could do to work on it, but knew that I needed to do SOMETHING since it was becoming a real challenge at work. Kim couldn't have been more personable and invested in what I wanted to accomplish and really did a lot to understand my problem. She was always attentive to emails as we set up our appointments and our first phone interview I felt like she truly wanted to get to know me, my history, and my experiences. After a phone and in-person appointment, she recommended a form of hypnotherapy for the mild stutter that she saw I had. Since I was open to any form of therapy, I leapt at the chance for this. What I found I liked most from her, is how positive she was and how confident she felt her treatment was going to be. The treatment lasted several weeks, from personalized recordings that she made me. She was always open to creating new ones for me to listen to as part of the treatment plan. After following her treatment plan and continuing to talk to her about its effects, I feel like the issue has gotten better and I'm thrilled. Kim is fantastic and is very dedicated.
