Their beer selection reliably features several conventional Brand beers, but venturing beer geeks will surely find a brew they've never seen in one of the quickly rotating taps. In addition to serving up a variety of local and international beers, Stadsbrouwhuis also brews their own tasteful ales. Though their (very affordable) vegetarian dishes won't fill you up for a night of drinking, their crunchy and thickly sliced French fries do a fine job. We've only seen (rather than tasted) their other food from a distance, but everything looks like a well-made and inspired fusion of styles. As for their snacks: they're on the pricey side but very generous. Finally, the friendly staff is always excited to help you in beer-mergency situations. And in the rare occasion that their descriptions don't trigger your taste buds, you're always welcome to have a free taste. All in all, Stadsbrouwhuis is ideal for adventurous tasting and memorable conversations. But if you just have time to drop by on your way to a social event, be sure to pick up a swing-top bottle that's filled with anything from tap.

List of pros and cons: Pros: Great food Excellent staff Wonderful view Nice outside seating (although it was too chilly the night I was there) Very comfortable atmosphere Cons: None really! Just sad I had to depart :) The waitress was new but she was doing a great job and she had her assistant there to answer any questions we had. They were both able to respond Dutch and English. I recommend the Chef Menu. It was a selection of starters and then I opted for the cold seafood platter. I can't remember all the items, but there were plenty of choices (crab, oysters, 'razor' something (like mussels) prawns and a few other items). There was also a 'surprise' dessert which included at this time a chocolate chip cheesecake and a fruit compote (and ice cream). It was delicious! I would go back next time I'm in town. You should too.

On Wednesdays and Saturdays, they have a farmers market and so we decided to check it out. It was fantastic! If you arrive to Leiden Centraal,, it is maybe a five minute walk to where the market is held, just look it up on Google. Once we had walked around for a while, we decided it was time for some lunch and wanted to have lunch by the canal. Annie's was the perfect spot as you walked down the steps and the tables are literally right on the canal. I ordered the tuna sandwich and it was absolutely fantastic, a perfect blend of tuna, red onion, and other stuff I cannot describe, but it was fabulous. Husband had the chicken satay and he was very happy with his meal as well. We each had one drink and the total was approximately €40 Definitely recommend. Don't be in a hurry. Just enjoy!

Since we were only together briefly, my fellow Facebook/Runkeeper friends wanted to celebrate. This restaurant is a really nice steak house, but I'm vegetarian. (This wasn't my choice and I didn't know of any options, being a visitor. So yes, they pulled a vegetarian into a meat house. I suppose if they ever visit the States, I'll make them eat brussel sprouts lol.) Other than the Catch of the Day option, there was the risotto on the menu. I must say it was an excellent choice because the taste was exceptional! When they found out that it was my birthday (I guess it was a given due to loud singing), our beautiful server gave me a gift of their award winning house gin and a bottle of tonic.
