Today at 9:30 on the 13th of July, 2018 I showed up to pick up the car and the lady at the counter…read morewas extremely rude to me. This was a middle-aged lady, with blonde hair. When I was figuring out how much would be the total sum to pay for the car, she told me that she prefers to explain this to me in German, which I do not speak fluently. I do not know about the Hertz company policy regarding their employees' English language proficiency, but I assumed that this was a must. Actually, the lady spoke English quite confidently but probably decided that she was tired of it and wanted to switch to German without my consent. She said: "You do not speak German while living in Germany? That is bad".
Honestly, I came to get a car and was ready to pay additional 50 EUR fee for my late arrival and cross-border fees of 25 EUR + 23 EUR tax and not to listen to lectures from Hertz employees how I dare not to speak German living in Germany. In my opinion, this is a) racist b) impolite c) unprofessional.
Later, she expressed her doubts about my address. My house number was a letter and a figure, but not a name as it happens usually. I had a feeling that I am being treated as a liar and felt very uncomfortable.
I asked her why she was so rude to me and she just replied that I was not getting a car.
As a result, my weekend was ruined, I lost 68 EUR that I already paid to CHECK24 to prepare my reservation, I lost my non-refundable hotel reservation in Amsterdam and I got a lot of emotional stress while talking to this lady.
ALERT: AVOID USING HERTZ FOR YOU CAR RENTAL NEEDS.
