My oldest child is 16 and I dragged her to every portrait studio under the sun and was always disappointed with the photos: they looked like school pictures each and every time. Then we met Marla through one of her children. We met her at a park for photos of our three children and I have never witnessed someone so at ease with her clients, surroundings, and camera. When we met her in her studio to review the photos she had taken, we had such a hard time choosing which pictures to order: they were all beautiful and captured our children's personalities perfectly. We ordered more photos than we expected going in, but it was just so difficult to decide. She is always so gracious with sending us a few extra prints too, which says something about her customer service. I get the feeling that she looks at all of her clients as family members and gives her best every time. We had her take photos of the entire family a few years later and she continues to capture our children perfectly in photos. She is very flexible and accomodating with her time and camera. I have photos from both sessions hanging in a few rooms in our home and countless friends and acquaintances have remarked on the beautiful photos on our walls. These are all the work of Marla. Yes, you will pay for high quality photos, but you get what you pay for, and working with Marla from start to finish, each time, is worth every single penny. You won't be sorry.

I was a neighbor of Julie at Wally Spice and babysat her boys when I was a teenager, and always…read moreadmired her work. When I became engaged to my husband, there was no question who I would ask to be our wedding photographer - I had seen her phenomenal work throughout the years and wouldn't trust my big day with anyone else. Julie did not disappoint. She even flew out to Washington DC to take our engagement pictures (on a weekend it reached 90+ degrees nonetheless) and captured some amazing shots. She really has a sense of the best angles to take with each setting and directs you in a way that still looks completely natural in the pictures. The pictures from our wedding were even more fabulous. We did a photo shoot at my parents' house, an urban shoot in downtown Detroit and Belle Isle, and of course more at the ceremony/reception venue. We have fantastic shots from each of the photo shoots, and had a terribly hard time choosing which to put in an album out of all the pictures we had (it literally took us over a year to select all the pictures!). All around, Julie's photos are gorgeous - I'm so glad we didn't look anywhere else for a wedding photographer! Not only are the pictures great, but she is wonderful to work with; very easy going, flexible, but also has some great suggestions based on her experience. She also does great portraits - we did a photo shoot of our dog (yes, we are THOSE kind of people) and I can't tell you how cute our baby looks (and I also can't tell you how Julie worked her magic and got her to stay still - every picture we have taken of her ourselves is a blurry mess!). Aaron and Jeff assisted her for the day, and both of them were great as well. They had warned us ahead of time that some of the things they asked us to do would seem weird, but would look cool after the fact, and they were right. Honestly, I had a really good time just chatting and hanging out with them in between shoots and whatnot, which is just an added bonus on top of the amazing job they did. Julie also took some photos of our dog. I wasn't so sure how well that would go: she's a fidgety little thing and unless she's sleeping, I've never got a photo of her that wasn't blurry. Julie's shots came out great though!

I swear could be found in a magazine. Let me back up and give specifics.. I met Kateri after finding her on YELP when another studio decided to close before my "bump popped".. trusting the other two reviews I reached out and left a message on Yelp and she answered within an hour. We met for coffee and talked over the logistics of the shoot and we scheduled for the first week of January. From September to shoot time we emailed and texted different lightening and pose ideas. When the day finally came I was ecstatic! Originally I wanted "snow shots" where fresh snow was falling but without the cooperation of weather we made the theme black and white and super sexy--- I do mean SEXY! I absolutely adore how she was super open to my vision; one that I did not see in her portfolio and would be considered risqué but heck.. I'm carrying life! I've never felt more liberated. This was about two hours with six outfit changes and a dozen or so snaps; some even included the hubs!!! About two weeks later hubs and I piled into Kateri's studio again and has the photo shoot reveal! I couldn't believe the outcome.. I looked like a confident, glowing, happy, SEXY first time mom! We selected a couple of special prints and are anxiously waiting for their arrival. I am more than positive we will use Kateri for additional services especially for new baby shots! In comparison to others.. she is affordable, communicative and prompt! :)!!
