Came here not knowing much about how Thai food should taste coming from Austin Texas but after I took my first bite I was hooked. There's an extra dimension of flavor in the pad Tai here... I am pretty bad when it comes to stereotypes of what an authentic restaurant should look like. A lovely Thai restaurant in charming downtown Danvers. We started with vegetable tempura - good assortment of vegetables, nicely done. My Massaman chicken curry was a treat. So often Massaman is a plain brown sauce but this was tangy and a bit sour. David liked his green curry. Both had lots of fresh veggies. Might give it four stars but have a soft spot for Danvers Square, I walked past here in the late 70s on my way home from high school. Sawadee is short for delicious Thai food... I must have driven past this place a 100 times living in Danvers. I was always telling myself to check it out since it has been ages since I have had Thai food. I am a self proclaimed Pad Thai bandit. Upon entering the Sawadee I was greeted by a friendly hostess and shown to my booth. The restaurant is very well decorated and very clean. It gives you the impression that the owners and staff care about their business. There is a small bar area and they recently received a liquour license. My server left me with a menu and took my drink order. The menu is fairly impressive. Of course, I knew I wanted to go with the Pad Thai. I requested it without green onions. I am not a big fan the green bulb. My meal was prepared very quickly but with green onions. My server apologized for the mix up and had it corrected without being told. I was impressed by the great service and attention to details. The Pad Thai was very tasty but a little on the dry side. I am not sure if it was made in haste because of the mixup. However, I still enjoyed it. So If you drive by Sawasdee in downtown Danvers and have an appetite for Thai stop in. You will be happy you did. read more

Great Thai food! I have been here many times for sit down and take out, and always had a fabulous meal. The pad thai and massaman curry are my favorite! Their scallion pancakes are okay, but could be improved. So, by 7:30 pm, we arrive at Sawasdee, a new restaurant in Danvers square. The place is hopping, for Danvers anyways. Only a few tables were open, and the place is pretty small - only about 15 tables. They were doing a very busy take-out service. We were seated right away. I noticed about five servers, all who were extremely busy. These girls get a workout in! We did wait for water & to order, probably about 10-15 minutes. Once we placed our orders (appetizer & two entrees), both were served in a reasonable time, and all were excellent. We had the Thai roll appetizer. I had the cashew chicken with brown rice (so excited about the brown rice). I also made several modifications, which they got correct. The dish was good, though a little too sweet for me. The boyfriend loved his pad thai, and was finally happy to try a new place. Prices are extremely reasonable and parking is free. The place is bright, clean, & lively. My only complaint is that the seat was dirty, which I did not notice until after I sat down, and got new jeans dirty. Service was extremely friendly. I've had some hit and miss experiences with Thai restaurants in the area and I can't say I've really had the desire to go back to any particular one. Either they didn't do take out or the place looked like a sh&thole, the price was expensive, or I could run my food on all the grease and oil from the leftovers I had. Well it seems like someone was listening to my complaints. I went with the vegetarian so the other stipulation was there had to be decent vegetarian options on the menu. Sawasdee is a slick comfortable looking restaurant with nice interior, comfy and friendly. The service was good and the meal recommended to me was delicious. There are plenty of veggie options on the menu, including most soups, noodle dishes, curry dishes, not to mention the inclusive vegetarian section of the menu. Dishes were seasoned very well. We started with the Kui Chai and then I had the Tom Yum soup. It was hot, spicy, and sweet.. a party in my tummy. I definitely can't wait to go back and try the drunken noodles or one of their currys. The vegetarian had the Massaman Curry which was delicious as well. I was at a client's office and was going to meet some people I know in the area. As usual, Yelp delivered a good spot. Small and personal, Sawasdee is located on a main street in Danvers center (if there is such a thing). I had no trouble finding parking on the street, but I can see how that could be a problem on a day that wasn't New England dreary. Open the doors and you are greeted with the savoy smells of Thai goodness. Godo sign as I've been to places that smelled like dishwasher steam. Thankfully this was the opposite. Waitresses were friendly enough and the joint was clean and neat. The lunch menu choices were good enough although I was hoping to have some "fresh rolls", but those were absent. Food portions were decent and came out hot and ready to go, seemed to be made to order and well seasoned. Be careful asking for "a little spicy". I did and it was no more than three bites between swigs of water. read more

I got the sawasdee fried rice and absolutely loved it. For the first time in months my husband ordered a super spicy drunken noodles, and he actually got a super spicy drunken noodles. I had high hopes for Sawasdee after reading the reviews and left a little bit disappointed. I'm a huge thai fan and I adore Siam Delight in Beverly. This place stepped it up a little bit on the decor, but I think isn't quite as good as Siam IMHO. My first disappointment was a wait for a table. When we arrived (7pm on Friday) it wasn't very busy and there were a few tables for 4 available (we were a party of 2) and we had to wait about 15 mins to be seated because they wanted to put us at a table for 2. Second disappointment was when they told us they were out of fresh spring rolls. I'm constantly jonesin' for them and Siam delight only has fried rolls, so I was really excited to get them here and really bummed when they didn't have them. Third disappointment was the steamed dumplings. They were WAY oversteamed and stuck to the plate. They were so doughy that I couldn't pick them up with my fork. Basically no flavor at all. Should have got them pan fried but was trying to be healthy! My entree was the Garden shrimp- steamed shrimp and veggies with peanut sauce- and I was really happy with it. I got brown rice on the side and was glad to have that option. The shrimp were large and plentiful. I feel like after the many good reviews, maybe I'll give it another chance sometime but my first experience was really only 3 stars at best. read more

I grew up in Danvers, and I haven't quite found a Thai food place as good as this one. First of all, the quality of the food here is amazing. Between their noodle dishes and their duck dishes, I have never been wronged. I love that their food always contains the perfect consistency of moisture, which can be a faulting point for other Thai restaurants in having dry noodles or rice. Second, the decor here is gorgeous. Sawasdee truly embraces its brick wall and has so elegantly decorated the location. Also, they were smart enough to put heavy curtains by the door in order to block out any drafts during the winter time. Can I take a second to appreciate the usage of the paper for the straws, and how they roll it into an origami rose to top the straw with as the servers bring out your drink? Every time I go back to my hometown, I either stop by to eat here, or pick something up for takeout to bring back into the city. read more

We ventured away from our normal sauvignon blanc and ordered their Thai Lotus white wine and it was very good! Paired exceptionally with our menu options! I have been ordering from here for years. The food here is always fresh, received hot and always delicious. The ladies who work front of house are amazing. So friendly and helpful. Since Covid hit, they have really taken all steps to ensure safety of all guests. No indoor dining, sanitation in the way in and plexiglass at the order station with cleaned pens if needed. Sawasdee is a small pretty restaurant in the center of Danvers. It has exposed brick and is very clean. Service was good and the waitresses were both nice. I must confess that this was actually my first try at Thai food. We went as a party of 5 and were able to try most things. Some items were very good and a few we felt were a little too heavy on the oil. The vegetable tempura was very heavy. I would not recommend this unless you really like VERY deep fried foods. The vegetable spring rolls were done nicely. We tried the tangy Salmon which was in a nice citrus sauce, it would have tasted better if we had skipped the overly heavy appetizers. The Rayama Steak was very heavy with the curry sauce and was not a favorite. The stir fried Pad Thai noodles were very good and would go back to Sawasdee just to have them again. Overall, I would recommend Sawasdee. I would go back but would try to steer clear of so many deep fried items. read more

Sawasdee Danvers came very highly recommended and definitely lived up to it's rave reviews. It's a small restaurant with maybe 15 tables at most, but we were seated within 5 minutes of arriving on a Friday evening. The decor is very charming and I loved the exposed bricks, photography from Thailand and gorgeous light fixtures. We started with the Tom Yum soup, which is my boyfriends true test of how good a Thai restaurant is. The soup was piping hot upon arrival and smelled absolutely delicious. It was packed with fresh veggies, giant shrimp and a mouthful of spices and flavor. I was enticed by the description of the Larb Gai, a traditional Thai dish of minced chicken with red onions, scallions, mint leaves and ground toasted rice in spicy homemade lime sauce, served with fresh vegetables and I am 100% happy that I decided to try it. It looked delicious and I couldn't wait to dig in. The flavor combination was amazing and it packed a powerful punch of spice. My boyfriend's panang curry, another favorite, was also full of fresh vegetables and a delicious curry sauce. We decided to split a Honey Banana with ginger ice cream for dessert, and it too, was fresh and full of flavor. The generous serving of ice cream had fresh pieces of ginger and there were 4 banana spring rolls lightly fried and topped with a delicious honey and sesame seeds. It was date night and we needed a place to go. The boy suggested this place and after taking a quick look at their vegetarian options, I was game. We arrived around 6:30 on a Friday and the place was about half full. By the time we left at 8:00 there was not an empty table. I also noticed as others have said they seem to be popular for takeout as well. We started with the Kui Chai which are vegetarian chive dumplings. We got them fried. (You can also get steamed.) They were basic, but quite tasty. For dinner I got the Massaman curry with tofu. It was just what I was hoping it would be; sweet coconutty goodness with a bit of heat. And I loved the roasted peanuts mixed in with the veggies. The tofu was lightly fried and very tasty. The only way I feel this dish could be improved is by adding some broccoli in the veggie mix, but I love broccoli, so I'm biased. My husband got the Tom Yum noodle soup with tofu. He was very pleased with it and kept saying how great it was. It is a pretty small space, but they've done a nice job with the decor. The staff was very nice and the bill was less than I was expecting. And instead of having a bowl of mints at the door as you leave like many restaurants, they offer a bowl of tiny Tootsie Rolls. I had the veggie golden triangles (the fresh spring rolls were sold out, those were my first choice) and also the honey sesame chicken entree (which i don't see on their online menu). The honey sesame chicken was amazing- it consisted of thin pieces of chicken, lightly battered and fried, on top of veggies with cashews and raisins in a sweet honey sesame sauce, with a small side of sticky rice. I read many good reviews of their curry, so maybe next time I will have to try that. I am also hoping to try their iced tea next time too! Quite possibly the greatest Thai experience I have ever had. The interior decor is modern and not your typical Thai 'den'. The servers were all extremely polite. The food was SPECTACULAR and the prices were amazing! I had the Massaman Chicken Curry which was absolutely brilliant and under $10. My wife had the house rice and she was elated over it. We shared an order of Thai wings which were some of the best we've ever had. The Thai Iced Tea is delicious and HUGE. The selection is enormous. I used to avoid Thai food because of the atmosphere and prices, but not anymore. I'll be a customer here frequently. read more

Love this place! It's one of my go to restaurants. When I go out I like to choose places that have food that I normally wouldn't cook at home this is definitely one of them. I would give them five stars but the services a little lacking it's still really good. And they have an item that is in on the menu that we have to order. There is parking around back that's free which is cool. The tables are small I guess you could say it's cozy but may be a little too cozy for me. The atmosphere is much more upscale than their price point would indicate so we like to dress up and pretend we're big spenders. I think it is the perfect place for a date without spending too much. Right in the Heart of Danvers Square, you will find this little Gem. Phil and I had our first meal together here back in 2011. The atmosphere was phenomenal then and more so now when we took our son for his first time. The food and service here are A+. The ladies that work here really make you feel like you are their only customer. The service is friendly, professional, and they are mindful of every customer, not one bit overbearing. Sawasdee is small but what they lack in space the restaurant makes up for in ambiance. Seating is supper intimate so its great for a romantic date. Pad Thai has to be one of the most basic dishes in all American Thai restaurants. Yes, I know it's not authentic - but it's popular, easy and good. So imagine my surprise when I found myself eating one of the plainest dishes I've ever encountered from a restaurant with rave reviews. The chicken was dry, the noodles so soggy that they clumped together, and the overall taste was just bland. I got takeout, and they told me 15 minutes. When I showed up 20 minutes later I still had to wait another 10 minutes for my food. I'm giving it 2 stars only because the decor was very nice and the food that I watched the other customers eat while I waited looked and smelled delicious. I will try Sawasdee again, if only to give it a chance to redeem itself. Hopefully next time it will live up to the hype. read more
