Truffle hunting with Savini Tartufi was truly one of the greatest experiences of my life, and I don't mean that lightly. I've worked in the gourmet cheese and wine industry, and so it's no surprise that I love anything truffle! While visiting family in Italy, my family member booked us for truffle hunting as a gift to me, and I had a fantastic and unforgettable experience here. The hospitality from Luca and Andrea started from the train station, as they had a staff member pick us up and drive us to their location in the picturesque town outside of Pontedera. When we arrived, we were speechless at the beautiful aesthetics of the countryside and how homely their property was. Right away, we were greeted by the three generations of special truffle-hunting dogs: Giotto, Fiuto, and Bruno. We were very lucky because we would have been truffle hunting with another family, but they cancelled, so it was very private and more intimate. The interior of their headquarters featured an immersive, museum-like display showcasing the history of truffle-hunting, as well as some general information about the food. They have a full kitchen and a dining area as well. We were treated like family when they showed us deep into the forest of Tuscany to find some truffles (well, the dogs were doing most of the heavy lifting since they are specifically trained to smell the truffles). Here at Savini Tartufi, they truly care and enjoy teaching people about truffles, and you can see the passion gleam in their eyes as they inform us. We found a good bunch of truffles, and they took us back to the dining room and prepared a multi-course meal of truffle foods, with their own products. They gave us very generous portions, but since you are out for a couple hours walking in the woods, you do work up an appetite and the food will disappear! To start, they poured us their house red wine and some water. The first course was an appetizer of a truffle charcuterie containing truffle pecorino, bruschetta with a medley of spreads (pesto, tomato, and of course truffle), a truffle infused olive, prosciutto, and truffle salami. The board was generously sprinkled with fresh truffle shavings and drizzled with their truffle honey. The second course was spaghetti with their truffle sauce and butter, and of course it was also loaded with fresh truffle shavings. The third course surprised me a little. This might seem like an odd combination, but don't knock it until you've tried it. It was two sunny-side-up eggs with truffle oil, truffle salt, and truffle shavings. It blew me away! The umami flavor of the eggs pairs excellently with the truffle, and if I had the funds for it, it would be my breakfast every single day. (Perhaps someday this fantasy will be possible...) For dessert, we were served bonbons drizzled with truffle honey and truffle shavings. The combination was very unique, but the ice cream was very refreshing. Overall, this entire day exceeded five stars. I will never forget this experience and I will treasure it for many, many lifetimes! Thank you tremendously to the entire staff and crew of Savini Tartufi. I can see the other reviews are a bit dated, but are also five stars. I can absolutely guarantee you that their service is fantastic. When I come back to Italy, you bet I'll come back!!! Grazie mille!!! read more
What an amazing experience! Our guide Luca took our group of 8 through the woods (5-10 minutes from their store) with his truffle hunting dog Giotta. We passed by a couple other local truffle hunters in the woods. Luca taught us all about hunting truffles and the different kinds- he was so knowledgeable and friendly. Giotta found a good size truffle right away! We found 4 truffkes in all. Once we got back to the store we had a delicious lunch starting with wine and also truffle beer. When they first presented the appetizer plate I thought it was for everyone to share and then realized we each were given a full plate! We started out with cheese with truffle honey, 4 crackers with different truffle toppings such as pesto and also olives, salami, proscuttio, and a salad. Then we had scrumptious pasta with a creamy white truffle sauce, followed by a fried egg in a skillet with black truffles. Then for dessert we were given vanilla ice cream with truffle honey and figs. Just unbelievable! Oh- and after lunch drinks- truffle amaro and grappa. Then we were able to purchase items in their store. They had lots to choose from- we got truffle pasta, salt, amaro, among a few! I highly recommend this experience, it was one of our highlights! read more

I enjoyed a "truffle experience" day with Cristiano and Carlo Savini, 4th generation of truffle hunters in Tuscany. I had a lot of fun with them and Giotto (the super cute dog), the real protagonist of the event. After the hunting, I was delighted with a full lunch at their shop and tasting room. All so good and prepared with love by the golden hands of Mrs. Savini, that takes care of the Family business and the kitchen with her husband, while Cristiano and Carlo do the Globetrotters :-) read more

We were brought to this amazing shop by our (also amazing) tour guide while visiting the area. If you are a truffle fan, the smell of this shop is DIVINE! If you are like our daughter, you will say how stinky it is and sit outside! (LOL!!!) All joking aside, this is a lovely shop, and the images below do it more justice than my lack of pictures! I honestly wished that we would have visited the area in the fall for white truffle season, but that will be another trip for another time (and there certainly will be another time). There are all sorts of lovely products you can get inside of this shop, and they are certainly of the highest quality. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. There is alot of information around the shop to educate you on different types of truffles, how they are found, where the are found, and what they are worth (....ALOT). We were chatting for a bit with one of the Savini family members, and he was incredibly friendly. You can tell that they are very passionate about what they do, and how can you blame them? They are experts at finding one of the most coveted culinary ingredients on the planet! I would highly recommend a stop, and do not forget to purchase a few bottles of the white truffle oil for yourself! (It is beyond delicious drizzled over pasta!) They also sell them in small bottles which are perfect for friends & family at home who would appreciate such a delicacy! read more
