Enjoyed the sort of courtyard for little wine and sandwiches we brought in from excellent food court nearby. Now, some negatives. Rooms were adequately sized, and clean, but old and require updating. The main issue is antiquated A/C system that doesn't work properly. This is not true A/C, more like fan that provides air flow, but doesn't really refrigerate an air inside the room. Also, it is busy location, so it was noisy in the mornings for light sleepers, like myself. All in all, viable option in Bologna.

IF you want to time travel to a time of old rooms, bathroom, bedrooms, light fixtures and yes well other things (see below) then go here. You will get preference if you speak and look Italian. But don't do it, if you look different. - They will still charge for booked nights. Even if you have to leave early. (I saw this happen to two women, who I felt was forced to stay in the crap of a hell hole). - They will not let you complete early check-in even if the room is ready. (My boss who is Italian, had to drive to the hotel to ask them to allow me to check in a bit earlier). - If you even get close to the lobby area, there is one staff member who will tell you that you cannot be there. Twice he asked me if I had a room there. Once when I stayed and on another occasion, while waiting for a coworker. They came to my hotel and waited for me with no issues. - I was also with someone before and the rude host said "you booked a room for only one, he cannot go upstairs" I said "First of all, I am not going upstairs and secondly I PAID for my room, I have two beds and either way. What I do is none of your business". =/. I hate this place with a passion. They only got one additional star because one of the bartenders is pretty nice, other staff members moderate. Although most of the time, you will have to stand there until someone appears. Also don't believe the pictures on Google, we all laugh when we see them lol. The place is pretty much right in the middle of the centro, which puts it in walking distance of pretty much everything there. The rooms are reasonably large, clean, and modern, with everything pretty much working the way you'd expect it to. And the service is excellent - especially around the (excellent!) breakfast spread in the mornings. Mind you, that's for if that want breakfast - if all you want is an espresso, you can get that too :-) The bottom line - I have no complaints, and will probably stay there again...

It's about a 20 minute level walk to and from the train station (though a bus goes up the main road if you'd prefer and you can get a taxi right outside the hotel if you want too. We had a suite which was smaller than I had hoped it would be, but was really nicely appointed with a view of the clock tower directly across from the window and the main square to the right. And it was in fact two rooms so we could close the door between the bedroom and have the living room for late night writing or email when the other one of us was sleeping. For the most part it was a quiet room though there were films showing in the main square every night we were there and the sound could be heard until about midnight in our room which wasn't ideal but that was also about when we were going to sleep so it worked out. Breakfast was great and our favorite hotel breakfast in Italy. They brought a basket of gluten free items for my wife and the subsequent days we were there they remembered us and automatically brought the gluten free basket and remembered our coffee order as well. Felt like very personal service. The staff was really nice too and gave us good restaurant recommendations. We would definitely stay here again.

Fast forward 2 months and I am 7 weeks pregnant, sick with the flu (fever/vomiting), and barely able to get to the place (train+taxi) let alone enjoy it. We arrived and let the staff know that only my husband would join for the dinner and that I wasn't feeling well and didn't want to get others sick. Obviously the pregnancy and illness aren't their fault and the terms of the sale indicated it was non-refundable. However, at fine dining establishments in the US they've often had a clause for illness or other reasons to adjust the reservation - I consider this to be a part of great customer service. Considering we paid nearly 2,000 euros for this experience, I was surprised they wouldn't even refund my wine pairing (170 euros) as even if I wasn't sick, I wouldn't have been able to partake in it due to pregnancy. They gave us a credit for future use that expires in one year, which is comical since I will still be pregnant or with a newborn for that full year. Obviously they know how to cook here, but the customer service made what was already a tough day (missing my dream foodie experience and being bed-ridden on a beautiful estate) even more frustrating.

I stumbled upon this lovely hotel when vetting all other hotel options around the area of Bologna. The reviews of the hotel looked decent, the pictures made it look clean, and it wasn't too far out of the city center of Bologna. Well, when we rolled up to this beautiful place my jaw dropped. The fountain was going, the lights were shining, and the hotel lit up like a Christmas tree. We walked into the lobby, and yet another jaw dropping moment. The lobby was clean, spacious, and beautiful with chandeliers and marble tables. The people at the front desk were beyond helpful and friendly. The room was spacious (especially considering there were three of us). The bed was one of the more comfortable beds I've slept in, in my experience of hotels in Europe. The only issue I had was the bathroom. Don't get me wrong, the bathroom was beautiful and spacious, but there was no bathtub, and really no adequate shower. The shower consisted of folding walls; each day the cleaning ladies would clean the room and fold the shower doors back, then each day when we wanted to shower we had to assemble the doors back again - it was a bit strange, but not a total turn off. Now, there was a restaurant that was attached to the hotel. I know what you may be thinking, "blah, hotel restaurant, how good could it possibly be?", well this restaurant was pretty damn good. So good, in fact, that we decided to eat there twice in our three night stint at the hotel! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Bologna.

The parking is easy, there is not much near the hotel to walk to but shops, restaurants and movie theatre are close by.
