Dick's Market - He didn't really get the Mountain Dew...we were faking out his mom. :D

"It's Got a Good Beat and You Can Dance to It" (Dick Clark)…read more Well...I suppose Dick's is a catchier name than Richard's Fresh Market. It is impossible to not make immature jokes about the store name, but I assure you that this store is rated G for groceries! Located along the Apple River, Amery is a small vacation town with limited options for provisions. Kwik Trip Gas Station or Walmart in nearby St. Croix Falls are the other options, so it's Dick's for me as the usual pitstop on the way to my family's lake home. The prices are quite high, so I stock up my coolers at home, and then just get odds and ends here. The one very important item a person MUST purchase is their gourmet popcorn over by the Caribou Coffee Kiosk. It explodes with flavor! On the way to the popcorn and coffee, you'll also find a respectable beer and liquor section worth its salt for thirsty fisherman. Lastly, Dick's caries a variety of foods to cover those on gluten-free diets, which is appreciated by some of my family members. Aside from the high prices, this is a solid stop for all your vacation home staples. Dick Clark gives it an 85...I'd probably give it a 70. But don't take my word for it! Several Dicks and Richards also wanted to share their thoughts: Dick Van Dyke: This store is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Richard Nixon: I've never tried to sneak items into the bags without paying at the self checkout. "I'm not a crook!" Richard III of England: I'm not sure how Richard the First of Fresh Market is related to me, but lock him up in the tower! Richard Marx: I've been Right Here Waiting at the checkout for a long time, but I still think this store is A-Ok. And that's Straight From My Heart. Richard Simmons: Let's pick up the pace moving through those aisles! Feel the burn!

You have fresh food fresh fruit selection beautiful organic selection good meat good customer…read moreservice I wish we had something even remotely like this in Ladysmith or Bruce Wisconsin we have nothing. However I do wish they would not use Amy's gluten-free because that's made in a week free factory and I've noticed they're gluten-free selection is gone down. I'm sure if I searched more I could probably find some more gluten free items but I really liked it when they had the gluten free but still it's an amazing store too bad I live far from waiting on from it but when I get to Rice lake I try and make it I think it's probably the last real grocery store left in the whole surrounding area. Thank you for that

I dislike them making a big deal if I want to package up my own groceries. When raw meat is placed with my fruit, yeah no, you need more training. I do like the self service area when I can do it myself, but most of the time I use cash and have to be forced to repacking my groceries when I get to the car. The best reason to go there is the Caribou Coffee shop. They are the best. Far better in taste compared to the Starbucks one, oh and the service is down to earth and friendly. I'll stop there regardless if I need any groceries or not whenever I'm in Rice Lake.

Saturday I set out for a short brewery trek of three breweries... I was excited to visit my 363rd,…read more4th and 365th breweries! Quite the array my palate experienced! The first brewery.... fine, just fine, nothing great. The last brewery? Off the charts... fantastic!! Balsam Lake? Yikes..... I arrived to a full patio and quite the busy inside. Good omen, right? Once I began tasting through my flight... two words came to mind...not sure if they're correct or... but they were... Tourist Trap....? I built a flight of four, four styles I commonly order, so I'm familiar with them and they're preferred. My flight consisted of #3 Angler's Amber, #7 Stump Bay Stout, #17 Marges Doppleganger Doppelbock & #18 Haugen All The Honey. The Honey beer was delicious and was he only one I could stomach to want to finish. The Angler's Amber? WHAT is that, is that a Bitter Amber? That is NOT a style....for good reason! This beer I could only take three sips of... in disbelief that it was that bad! The stout and doppelbock....just not good. Three days later and I'm still at a loss for words to describe what my palate was dealing with? Being to nearly 400 breweries I wouldn't consider myself a slouch, nor definitely an expert but when three of four beers are unpalatable... it's not me... it's the beer. Such a disappointing experience. Getting the $16.00 tab for what I considered awful beer sure didn't help ease the unfulfilling feeling. Maybe I should have opted for the Boysenberry Blonde that I debated and a beertender said was her current go-to? This brewery is three years old so...maybe they're still working kinks out? New brewer? I may have to peruse untappd for other beer ratings but at this juncture I wouldn't go back, just bummed out by the experience as a whole.

The Blood Orange seltzer is refreshing, and my favorite so far. The buffalo wings and steak fries were served piping hot, and well seasoned. There was plenty of TV's to watch BOTH the Packers and Vikings games. We will definitely be back! Super-friendly service, too! Thank you, Balsam Lake Brewery & Market, for an enjoyable Sunday!!
