Oldenburg is a very beautiful city, especially the central area, which contains many old buildings…read morehousing new shops. Most retail stores in Germany observe Sunday closing. The Sunday I visited was no exception, as almost all shops were closed. Except for the sprawling Gelateria Centrale, a massive restaurant (relative to other shops in the area), and I was in the mood for ice cream ! As with other German "eiscafes" this ice cream shop had a beautiful menu featuring all of its offerings in highly detailed color photos. Prices ranged from about 7.30 Euros down to kids sundaes for 3.70 Euros. Most sundaes are about 4.50 Euros. The Euro was worth about $1.09 at the time of my visit. The sundaes are truly works of art, and yes, the ice cream was of the highest quality. I noticed that they also sold cold sandwiches for 3.50 Euros for folks not hankering for ice cream. There is no place like this in San Diego. I'm not sure one would survive, anyway. The Europeans like to linger over their meal and savor their coffee to the last drop. By contrast, Americans seem to be in more of a hurry. You don't want to rush a massive ice cream sundae, do you? Anyway, I recommend this place to anyone within driving distance of Oldenburg.

Prices are also very good. There is no room for parking because it is in the middle of the shopping centre. But lots of parking garage around it.
