As a founding member of the Sky Team alliance, I spend some time on Delta partners when I travel…read moreinternationally. This trip was no exception, as I flew Delta between Boston and Amsterdam and then KLM from Amsterdam to Helsinki and back. Amsterdam has issues, but those were not experienced today at HEL. I'm also a Diamond in Delta's rewards program and I have a membership in the Sky Club. This gave me access to the lounge here in Helsinki, reviewed separately. Lounges make a huge difference when traveling, for sure. Separate queue for the ticketing counter for "priority" customers though the gent who checked me in won't have too much trouble finding the huge stick up his backside. My friends who were also flying KLM to AMS today noticed his lack of customer service skills. Dude, relax. Smile. The flight boarded on time, with separate queues for boarding premium and economy customers. Ground staff did a good job of managing the queue here (AMS was a cluster) and boarding smoothly. Visited Helsinki Airport for the first time in May. I was impressed with how spacious, clean and…read morebright it was. Signs are in English first, Finnish and Swedish (the main languages of Finland) second and third. I also visited the airport via train as I was in the city and needed to pick up our rental car on a different day than I flew into Finland. It was incredibly easy to navigate the train and then get upstairs to the station that connects to the rental car area, shops and security lines for the airport. There are lots of neat shops that sell Finnish products - like reindeer pelts! Food is fairly affordable (especially compared to the airports in the USA.) I liked that they had a little exhibit explaining Finnish homes in the non-Schengen terminal. Customs / border patrol was a breeze and their English was flawless so if you don't speak Finnish or Swedish, you'll be just fine getting through the airport. Visited: May 2026

Second time here sorta…read more... This time my flight from Doha to Sfo had to be diverted due to a medical emergency on board It is a great modern clean efficient airport in the typical Scandinavian style If your flight takes you here it is a good place to connect
