Maryland Food Bank thrives off of weekend volunteer hours for packers in their conveyor belt area to box canned goods and boxed foods as they'd otherwise have to bill these hours to payroll. I enjoyed myself and even got in a little cardio as the belt moved more and more foodstuffs through. I was in charge of canned veggies and boy were there lots of them. It was a good time and I can't wait to go back!

The one sanity I found was hiring Harford Cleaners to restore all of my textiles. They arrived promptly to help me sort my things into 'save', 'donate', and 'toss'. They packed it all up, and in a few days returned the things for which I requested a rush order. Their work on those items was outstanding. A few months later, when the seasons changed, I requested the return of a few more items of clothing, They selected the items accurately, and delivered them promptly. Fourteen months later, my unit still can't be inhabited, my things are still stored there. Throughout, they have done a great job with the paperwork for me and the insurance company, saving me much aggravation. I strongly recommend them for remediating fire and smoke damage to textiles.

To add to this review I wanted to say that in all the confusion of this whole mess I am flying out Monday (12/9) to Tucson and I put my computer bag that I take with me in the textile stuff!!! Ugh. I couldn't believe I did that. BUT I contacted Hartford Cleaners Sunday late afternoon and explained the situation and Pennylynn replied immediately and said that they would do their best to find my computer bag... Of utmost concern was that I had my computer power cord in there and I didn't want it to get ruined. Monday morning when the gentleman dropped off our rush clothes, he had my computer bag!!! You can donate clothing, toys, books, household items, etc. The store sells all these items and donates the money. There are volunteers there that staff the house. If you have time you can rummage through the clothing and find some bargains. It is a hit or miss kinda of store but it is for a good cause. if you don't mind your child in used clothing you are sure to find something. Since kids are made to get dirty and messy it was always nice to have some clothes you don't really care what happens to them. Tide and spray and wash can't get everything out! Of course you can always pick up some gently used books to read them a bedtime story!
