A fantastic experience from the very beginning! It all started in our hotel where we noticed a…read morestack of flyers for HK Boat Rentals. I scanned the QR Code and opened up the website. We were able to book our pontoon boat rental, pay and sign waivers from the comfort of our breakfast table. We arrived early as directed and we're immediately greeted by a very polite and professional young man. He directed us to pick out a boat. Of course, we wanted the best one, but they were all beautiful! It came down to picking the boat with armrests on the captain's chair because that was the only difference that we could see! We were given a quick rundown of the rules and off we went. We never knew that Lake Flower was connected to other lakes, we even went through a lock to Lower Saranac Lake. It was a wonderful day that I would love to repeat. Thank you HK boat rentals for a beautiful boat with professional/courteous service....We'll be back!!

Asked if any booking for the day, they said we were the first, and they gave us the option to pick the time and the boat. Our renting should have been started at 12:45 pm. We arrived at 12:30, and they told us that the boat was no anymore available because another group came before us and they were boarding our selected boat. I asked for the other one then... and they told us they didn't have the keys, and we should have wait until 1:30 pm... probably more. Or take a fish boat which I didn't want. In the end, I walked away, and my wife and I got to change plans, and of course, the day was already ruined. I hope they will refund me the money. Please, stay away if you don't want to have your day ruined, or if you still want a boat, then get them to sign a piece of paper that they will not give away your booking for someone less polite than you. (I saw the group who took or boat negotiating with them from the window of my bedroom at the lake house minutes before we got downstairs, BTW.) I hope this review helps as much as possible. Planning a weekend these days is not simple, and having people that ruin it with such superficiality, it's a shame.

Walking throughout the fort there were games for the kids to play, they tried writing with a qu'il, and were given small wool scraps to take home. We explored the gardens and the kids ran and got all of their energy out in those wide open spaces! There were beautiful apple trees and more buildings to explore. We didn't sign up to do the boat ride but that is available and is a great way to extend your stay at the fort! The staff was all incredibly friendly understanding of children's needs. We couldn't ask for more with a family day out at a historical site! It was such a joy to enjoy! The gift shop had so many gems it could be very easy to end up with super cool toys Tshirts and yummy treats. Drive out slow and be ready to pull over to read the informative stones on the way out. Worth it!! Don't forget to check out mount defiance after visiting (otherwise it's $10 a car to check out) and on your way there there is a park with a beautiful waterfall to look at.

Ironically, the weather ended up being beautiful, so I spent a lot of time exploring the outdoor area instead and had an absolute blast. I went with one other adult and no children, and I can confidently say this is a place people of any age would enjoy. The exhibits are genuinely engaging and hands on without feeling childish. There were some incredibly unique features, including an outdoor treehouse style structure, bones and skulls you could actually hold and examine yourself, and even a small exhibit showing decomposing animals being broken down by beetles. That was something I had never seen in a museum before and found surprisingly fascinating. Overall, this was not a filler stop at all. It ended up being one of the highlights of the trip and was far more fun and interesting than I expected. Whether you have kids or not, this place is absolutely worth a visit.
