I definitely wanted to avoid going on cholesterol medications again due to the pain I had previously experienced with them. I knew that with functional medicine I could use diet and lifestyle changes to address my metabolic dysfunction to help my body work more effectively rather than just addressing or covering up the symptoms. Dr Slavin worked with my whole body to address the underlying issues that are exhibiting various symptoms.:elevated cholesterol and high blood pressure, as well as elevations in blood sugar. We talked about how combining foods like protein and healthy fats and avoiding simple carbohydrates can help to balance my blood sugar, affect cholesterol as well as blood pressure. We did discuss "Paleo" which was making a difference as well. I first heard about Paleo from Dr Slavin at a Colorado Community College class. I have lost 18 lbs, feel more energetic and sleep better. My blood pressure has gone down from 145 average now down to 100-105 more regularly. I am no longer taking blood pressure medication and my MD agreed with this as well. My cholesterol level has also decreased 30 points. My sugar level is normal. Dr Slavin is also a resource to discuss nutritional supplements learn about online or on TV and I helps to review any issues which arise. I had been waiting for this appointment for over a week in order to speak with Dr. Slavin regarding a diet and nutrition plan to get my condition under control. She told me that she would not see me although she had over an hour and a half until the next appointment. She also told me that the doctors I was seeing "obviously weren't working" and that I needed to reschedule with her, although the next appointment would be two weeks out. I've never met someone with a business who could be so rude to their customers. I would not recommend her to anyone and am still blown away by her attitude especially in such a small town.
