I wish I can give the place 3.5 stars. I ate here twice during my two week stay in Paris. I was craving some good Asian soup, and after researching on Yelp, I decided to try this place based up on the rave reviews. Before we went to the restaurant, we went to the Louvre and it was a 10 minute walk from it. The hostess/waitress that day was extremely nice. She let us sit, and we chose to sit on the enclosed patio area so that we can see the rain dropping outside. It started to pour, so we were so glad to stay inside from the rain. So during our first visit, my fiance and I tried the happy hour special and beer. I tried the udon with the ground pork, poached egg, and green herbs. My fiance tried the shrimp tempura udon. We also got the special where it comes with fried chicken, rice, and egg omelet. So good. It was such a perfect meal. Really pricey though. I remember it came out to be 55 euros or so. I mean this is Udon. Japanese Udon. I can get the same authentic thing in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles for half the price. But... I get it. We are in Paris. So for this experience, I would give it 4 stars. And I should have been happy, and not have returned. For my second visit, I was looking for Kunitoraya, but I could not find it! So we decided to go Sanukiya, and it was a mistake.
The second time, my fiance and I arrived around later the day so it was more busy. We were seated down; however, and the service was not as great. I think there was a new waitress, and she was being trained. I noticed that my food came out first, and I waited for my fiance's food so that we can eat together. Quickly, moments later, I noticed my fiance's meal was plated, and sitting on the hot food stand, waiting to be served. The food was sitting there for a good while until the new waitress picked it up and was walking around not knowing that it was us that ordered that udon. We were literally sitting right next to it when the cook finished plating it. Anyways, I tried to brush it off because it's an honest mistake. But then when she finally brought the food over, she was holding a udon spoon on one hand and I can tell from her face that she could not decide on whether to put the spoon down or the soup down, and she spilled the hot soup on my fiance's pants. It wasnt a huge spill, but it big enough where I needed to help her. She did not say sorry, but said thank you? And just brushed it off and returned to waitressing. I was a bit annoyed but just ate. The food was good and I felt happy with the food... only the food. So we finished our meal, and we were waiting to use the bathroom because my fiance wanted to use the bathroom before we left. While we waited, we were looking over our map and trying to decided where to go next. I think this annoyed the waitress because she brought our check out when we did not ask for it. She set it down between us and told us to pay for our meal at the register. I thought that was pretty rude, considering that we just ate. The restaurant was getting busy, but I thought people in Paris took pleasure in eating their food and taking their time with their diners. Not this place. So, my second experience here was more like 1.5-2 stars. After that, I decided to try another restaurant. It's not worth the hefty price for the meal. I think you can find something just as good elsewhere with better service. I honestly believe it was just that one server who ruined it for me, so it might not be fair to the rest of the waitresses who appeared friendlier. read more
