Decided to drive up to LA from San Diego for my birthday to go vinyl shopping, and this spot was on my list. Walked into a straight-up paradise of organized vinyls with a crazy good selection across all genres. The first guy there didn't acknowledge us or say a word, which kinda sucked since I had a few questions. Not gonna lie though, he was playing some really good music, so I let it slide. Ended up finding quite a few vinyls I was hyped about. I had some others in hand, but realized they were overpriced. When we were ready to pay, another guy with curly hair was at the register, he had completely different energy. Super friendly, good vibes all around. Hopefully I catch him again next time I'm in. The furniture and home decor side of Sanford's Vintage may be really cool, but their vinyl records area won my heart. I bought a few recently in good to great condition - one still wrapped in cellophane - for $5 each. Let me tell ya', though - I worked my fanny off finding what I did. These vinyl puppies are separated by genre, but not really in any particular order thereafter. Not complaining, just sayin'. If you like getting lowballed on your vinyl, then take it to these guys. They will probably pay you pennies on the dollar for your records. Don't believe me ? check the other reviews. Like others have mentioned, they price their records high. If you notice any flaws & mention any discrepancy, like a warp or, lots of wear they scoff at it. One of the main guys is a total clown, disrespectful the way he talks to customers. Joe is cool, don't understand why he's in business with that other tool. You may find some cool titles in the shop from time to time but don't expect them to be cheap unless they're hammered. Shop cautiously, don't overpay. read more

Sanford's problem is that it inflates the cost of records that do not actually cost what they claim to be market price (2nd market to be fair). I've shopped with them and compared costs of records to other shops in the area. Sanford's consistently inflates the cost and sells you records they claim to be first pressings and rare finds. While that may be subjective to them what they want to charge you are at the mercy of easily over paying for something that is not actually what they claim to be. Here's a good example I tried to sell them a stack of records. I purposefully placed an extremely expensive hard to find pressing of a movie sound track that goes on discogs for an average price of 300 dollars. The owner scoffed at me and said my stack was common and nothing of value to him. Keep in mind I took the same stack to other records stores to compare. Other record stores said "I can't take this record, its too expensive" Just keep that in mind when you buy and sell from them. They don't do their research and they will try to pull fast ones on you regularly. Other than that if you want to buy records that are presumed to be in okay quality you will get that. Just make sure you understand that they have a 20-30 percent mark up compared to other places. ALSO PROTIP: haggle with them every time no one is around. They say they won't but they always do. It's hilarious. ESPECIALLY if you know your stuff about records. read more

What a disappointment. This should have been my dream shop. I love junk, and the word "junk" is right there in the store's name. Poor Fred Sanford would be clutching his heart and calling out to his beloved Elizabeth if he had witnessed what happened when I came to visit his namesake shop. I picked up an adorable mid-century plastic wall clock with a daisy motif. I was already familiar with this particular clock and knew it was worth about $25. Me: Does this keep time? Store Guy: It works. Me: But does it keep time? Story Guy: It's a General Electric...they go on forever. Me: Okay, how much? Store Guy: $75 Me: Have a nice afternoon. When I got home, I Googled the clock and averaged out the prices of the first 20 results: $22.60. read more

This is anything but a junk store. One side is all records and the other is thoughtfully curated mcm furniture, clocks, lamps and wall decor. I stopped by and everyone was busy in the back prepping furniture but I was able to browse. Really small but nice selection of quality furniture from Drexel to Broyhill etc. I ended up picking up an amazing Modeline lamp that was in almost perfect condition and a really cool GE clock. I felt the prices were very reasonable considering how rare the pieces are and what they are being sold for elsewhere. Lack of respect for customers and their records are overpriced. With this current pandemic this record store relies heavily on Instagram sales and that's fine no big deal. My issue with this shop is I did the whole comment to win on their Instagram and during the time I was off my phone they had stated that I won the record and to DM them to inquire. I hadn't been on my phone for a couple of hours due to me being busy but I eventually get back to them and said yes that I have every intention on paying and will pick up the next day. Well they responded to " sorry it sold last night". Straight from behind my back. Asked around if anyone has had this experience I did and I found out that this isn't the first time this has happened. I get it it's tough out there and shops need to keep running but damn I find this to be disrespectful. I voice my complaint and all they can message me with is "sorry you feel that way." No , let us make it up to you or nothing. It sucks when you want to support a shop that occasionally sells some good records but not after this. Pretty pissed off about this. read more

Tucked away inside Sanford's Vintage is Sanford's Records! From the exterior of the building I was a bit concerned about the records that this shop had to offer. Once I went inside, my concerns were quickly put aside. The selection and the prices were extremely adequate. The salesmanship was professional and cordial. THEY CLOSED AT 5pm when they have a sign posted saying 6pm!!! Even Yelp! says 6pm!! I hate to do this but I just drove all the way from Cerritos just to get turned away as the guy was closing up. This place has the best vintage finds in pico/Whittier. Nice vintage furniture that is in almost perfect condition. I'm obsessed with the mid century items. This is not a (goodwill) type of store. Vincent, the store owner does a great job with his inventory. There is also a record store next door that is part of Sanford's. They always have awesome deals! You can find some rare favorites here as well as hot collectibles. Jose, the manager is always helpful and points me to the new finds hehee.. they also do promotions on instagram! If you are a dickhead looking for perfectly staged presentation and a flawless "retail experience" as part of your vintage shopping, go to Silverlake and spend a grand or more on the amazing (AMAZING) stuff I got here today for half the price. Please, go. I will be glad. In fact, I don't even really want to write this review, because I run the risk of tipping off more Silverlake dickheads like you, who will come and ruin this treasure chest of unique and reasonably priced gems for me. Yes, it's a small business. Their hours are not always going to be cut and dry--but you know what else this means? If you want to drop in to pick up a desk on Memorial Day, they offer to meet up with you, just because. They are a small, hard-working team, and you can tell that they collect with passion. Their prices are fair and, and although I am a shitty negotiator and didn't even ask (because I already felt so high from finding the perfect dining room lamp, which I've been seeking for almost a year), they offered a deal because I took a few things. If you're into haggling, you'll probably have a field day. Not my bag. I've been collecting vintage housewares and furniture since I was a teen, when they flowed like so much wine through the CHOC and Salvation Army of the glorious '90s. I never thought that, one day, my pastime would become nearly impossible to enjoy. Overpriced, overcurated collections at of-the-moment vintage stores, and "boutique" sections in even the most abysmal thrift stores have all but ruined the experience. But this felt like the real deal, and it was nice to enjoy that again. I wanted to explore every little corner, but there just wasn't enough time! I'll just have to go back again. Soon. Lastly, I grew up on the Downey/Pico line (shoutout to Pepe's), which makes this even more rewarding for me. All the more reason to go and pay a visit to mom's place once in a while. p.s. This store is AWESOME. I recently got my very own place and had absolutely no furniture. I got an armchair for 50 bucks, 2 awesome lamps, and some side tables for real cheap. Cool, vintage stuff. The guy who runs this place (I forget his name) goes around collecting all of these treasures. He brings them back, completely cleans them off and sells them out of his shop. In addition to this, he makes his own furniture. I bought a homemade picnic table for $180 and he delivered this and the rest of my stuff for free. I live in Los Angeles. Anyways, it's a great store and you can get good deals here. It's a bit of a drive from LA, but on the plus side there is plenty of good Mexican food in the area. read more

Been dropping into this store on and off for a couple years now. Its one of the very few cool places in Pico. Vincent is very reasonable, helpful and not pushy at all. I haven't had the opportunity to drop money on big ticket items but everything he has is the real deal. From little trinkets to glassware, furniture, garden and housewares.. Its really fun to paw through everything. You cant be in there for just five minutes... I stay and make my rounds to make sure I didn't miss anything. You're gonna leave with something, hopefully. I stumbled across this great find on Yelp about a month ago and purchased all the milk glass vases for a buck each, (much better than goodwill, $2.95 ea). The guy at the counter was a hoot and very helpful!!! I stopped in this past weekend looking for more milk glass items for a vintage themed baby shower I am having. I totally missed the table out in front of the store (2 for $1) then Vince asked if I needed help, I told him what I was looking for and he showed me to the 2 for 1 table,...SCORE on milk glass candy dishes!!! There appear to be two separate spaces that make up this business: the records side and the furniture side. I have only been in the furniture side I was blown away by the selection, professionalism and knowledge of the staff. We were looking for mid century furniture and we came to the right place. Think American of Martinsville, Kent Coffey, Dixie etc. These guys take their craft seriously and it shows. Their selection turns over rapidly so if you see something don't wait. We recently got two amazing night stands here. Everything is refinished to perfection and looks like new. Most of their finds are on their Instagram feed. Small space but somehow they cram it all in. We hope to add more furnishings to our home and check back regularly. read more

Very nice people staffing this place, a young woman and the owner, a gentleman, who were both very friendly and helpful. That counts for a lot, in my book, and I really enjoyed browsing the side-by-side stores. Prices were mostly good, and I bought a couple of good items at decent prices. I also liked browsing the vintage hi-fi console stereos he had in stock, a very nice walk down memory lane for me. I can't wait to visit again. read more

We've been meaning to check out Sanford's for a while. We went here today after spending the entire morning walking through the Pasadena City College flea market and finding nothing we were looking for. Within thirty seconds of walking into Sanford's I spotted a Tiffany typewriter table in mint condition. The owner Vincent greeted us and was very friendly. We quickly made a deal for the table and we went on to make a deal for some awesome new wood lawn furniture. The store is packed with interesting items from a wide range of periods. There was a pink Hotpoint refrigerator, two beautiful oak chairs from the '40's, an Underwood typewriter (a No. 5 I believe), phonographs, a very heavy metal barstool set, amazing mid century furniture, and some fantastic 1950's kitchen tables to name just a few things. I went to Sanford's Junk Store yesterday. There are two doors to this establishment. One of the doors was open so I went inside. The majority of the store was records. The music was playing loudly and there was not a employee in sight. There were several cool items in addition to the records - but none of them had a price. I went out to go into the other door - which had an open screen that had the word OPEN written on it. I tried the door but it was locked. Strange -guess they do not want to sell their "junk". As I was getting into my car, someone opened the door and asked "Did you want to come in?" I replied "No that's OK". Won't be coming back here. read more

I found this place on Craigslist and love it! I was searching for an old, wrought iron bed frame that wasn't going to cost me a fortune and I found it here for a great price. It was in great condition and on sale. I also got an old, 1950s, metal, kitchen cabinet that was in nearly perfect condition for a few hundred bucks. They have a lot of really cool and great condition antiques here. You wouldn't guess there would be so many great treasures in this store judging by the outside. The owner is a super cool down to earth guy with great taste. His prices are very fair to underpriced . I can't wait to go back! read more

Found Vincent from Sanford's as he was advertising custom outdoor patio furniture. I had him make me an outdoor patio table and benches for my La Quinta Ca vacation home. Let me tell you, it came out really beautiful and so nicely made, I contacted Vincent on Monday and by Sunday he had delivered to my home a custom made set including the Colors etc. I will definitely stop by his store to look for unique pieces for my homes in the desert. This place is pretty cool, but deff over priced. It is true that nothing has a price and there is absolutely no haggling. I wanted to buy three vintage suitcases (all different sizes; the biggest was the cheapest @ $10) I wanted the owner to give me a better deal since I was taking more items and he literally told me "no, I can sell those all day long so take it or leave it!" I ended up just taking one suitcase, but I was really irritated with his attitude. Overall the place has lots of vintage finds, but he knows their worth so he prices the items at what he feels is a good price for him. Cool little down low spot for hidden treasures found some cool stuff acouple of times good prices

My experience with Sanford's started off a little strangely when I called to see if they were open...a man answered the phone "Hello?" I said "Oh, you're open...I was just calling to check if you were open". He responded "Well, just because I answered my cell phone doesn't mean we're open, but we are." Ummm, okay... In retrospect I should've taken that as a hint or a sign as to what was to come. There are two buildings, side-by-side. One is clothing and junk, and the other side is furniture and junk. When I say "junk", I don't mean the euphemism for antiques and cool vintage thingies, I mean junk as in trash that the local Salvation Army would turn down. Broken things. Filthy things. I actually saw a cute little vintage milk-glass mug in a particularly sunny shade of orange, and when I picked it up to check the maker's mark on the bottom, I was shocked as some unknown smelly liquid hit the floor and splattered on me! When I looked in the cup it was full of the most disgusting ancient mold-covered slime...I think it had been someone's coffee about 6 months ago :-(((( The guy working there (owner? employee?) just sort of laughed and said "yeah, this is a gross store". No apology, no offer of a napkin to wipe off the festering goo that was now on my hand. "A gross store"? Really, dude? Well actually, that pretty much sums it up. read more
