I have been to Sandy Creek Park many times and I never stop being amazed at the many activities the park has to offer. Best way to see your tax money at work. For $2 per person you may do any or all of the following. Enjoy their man made lake beach, fishing, 7 mile nature trail around the lake, volleyball, Frisbee course, picnic tables, picnic grills, use their baseball diamond and for additional fee you may rent a canoe and boat around the lake. Their is plenty of shade and plenty of room for you and your family to still feel you are on your own. You may choose to take a nature trail to Sandy Creek Nature Center which is approx 6 miles away. The nature trails are very well kept with man made wood breaches when necessary and the ocasional benches. read more

We went here to use one the private dog parks since our dog is a service dog in training with restrictions on playing with unknown dogs. You call ahead to reserve one of the five fenced in areas for $1 per hour per dog. It also costs $2 per person to enter the park. The space was beautiful and had tons of space for my dog to run around! Also had a nice picnic table and water for the dog so would be great for a picnic. We will definitely be back!! read more

I've enjoyed Sandy Creek Park for 6+ years. My friend & I take our dogs to play in their PRIVATE dog parks for an hour. The dog parks are clean ~ providing poo-bags, freshwater & picnic tables. Most also have trees to provide shade areas. Our dogs really need space to run & chase, so Sandy Creek's dog parks are our favorite place to go even though it is a 30 min. drive from where we live. read more

What a great find! We were visiting our son with our dog for the weekend and rented park # 1 for some great free runs! It is a huge grassy, clean field with a row of trees in the middle. We ran around several times and our dog really enjoyed it. They provide a big clean bowl of water under a spigot. They also provide a picnic table, doggy cleanup bags and a garbage can. read more

We go to Sandy Creek for their amazing dog parks. For a cheap $1 x dog x hour you can have one of 3 lovely fenced dog parks to yourself. There is also a fourth public dog park that doesn't cost extra. Never heard of a private dog park before? Neither had we until we found these! Basically, you call ahead to reserve (or take the risk of having none available) the park for one or more hours, and when you get there they hand you a dog bowl for water and a key. Head on over to your park and use the spigot located in each to give your pets a bowl of cold, fresh water. Lock the chain behind you with the key, and you've got the place to yourself. Let 'em run free without worrying that they'll run off, bite a stray kid with a stick, or get their butts kicked by other people's ill mannered dogs. We often go with other friends so that our dogs can play together while we have a picnic, play games in our dog park, or just lay out and enjoy the summer sun. All areas come with a picnic table and have ample tree shade. Park 1 & 3 have a central wooded area that our pups love to explore. Park 2 is a good one for small dogs, or for those who like to agility practice as it is a mostly open area with trees around the edge. Park 2 backs up on the shared dog park, though, so it is not recommended for dogs who don't play well with others. Humans must also pay, but just go for the family park pass so you don't have to worry about that part except to renew each year. If you have dogs, enjoy hiking, boating, Frisbee golf, have kids, or just like to enjoy the peaceful outdoors then you'll get your money's worth. I've used the flush toilets in two areas: the little nature center by the gardens you pass on the way in, and the toilets by the baseball fields (near park 3). Both were clean, safe and well stocked although the park 3 potties get a little cold in the winter. All the same, it is less cold than trying to pee in the trees with the dogs! Final notes - if you're there for the last available slot you MUST leave a few minutes early. If you aren't out of the park at closing time they WILL lock you in! Also, if you're in park #1 you may have to deal with lots of people wandering up to your locked gate and trying to get in as they are confused as to where the shared park is. It is waaaay down to the right - follow the path through the grass! The result will be lots of people with (illegally) off-leash dogs that run along your fence getting your own dogs all worked up. Once some people even climbed over the locked fence with their dogs, as they could not understand that a lock means that you don't belong there! For some reason this seems to be worse during football season, but I have no idea why. Take dog park #3 or #2 and you'll have on problems with that silliness. Reservations are not accepted further than 24 hours in advance. If you can't make it for your spot, be nice and call to cancel so I can have your park. read more

Just a few things to go along with Ruth's comprehensive review. I use the public park since my 80 lb lab likes to play with other dogs. I have had no problem with other dog's behavior since owners with anti-social dogs seem to take advantage of the private parks available. The private park #2 Ruth mentioned as adjoining the public park so may need to be avoided IS separated by a fence so there is no interaction with dogs in private #2 and public park other than meeting at the fence if they choose to. Usually light attendance during the week, if you want other dogs to mingle with Sat & Sun chances improve greatly. read more

A fantastic park in general w/ plenty of trails for hiking but I'm going to focus on the fantastic dog parks which are a godsend for ppl that don't have fenced in yards but maybe don't want to deal w/ managing their dog w/ stranger's dogs that day. read more
