San Rocco - the hotel with amazing views and scenery and only 'ok' rooms.
Upon entry, this looks definitely like a boutique hotel, with a small entry and one person reception. It's very lush on the outside with foliage and plants and very rich looking carpets, wall coverings, etc.
However, the rooms (at least my room - small with a double bed) are tiny and also very sparsly decorated. The room I stayed in was very simple, bed, desk and a small closet. You didn't have much room to walk - especially around the bed toward the bathroom (which was also tiny). The room was clean, but very very small.
The redeeming factor was the balcony, which looked out open the lake (Orta I believe) and the monastary on the island. The view was amazing and from my room, I could see in almost all directions.
Back to the room...air conditioning...supposedly was there, but even following directions, I couldn't get it to work. Thankfully it wasn't too hot. Also, the noise from the halls and rooms surrounding were terrible. I could hear literally EVERYTHING....really.
Food in the restaurant was ok, but I didn't think it was amazing. I'm guessing there are other spots in the area that have similar atmosphere with good food. The outdoor space for drinks/dining is very picturesque, so, good for drinks. read more
