They used the finest materials and people dedicated lifetimes to making these churches a spectacular place to worship. The art on the walls depicts famous biblical stories and tells of the time period that the church was built. This church stayed true to it's gothic design throughout and each detail is breathtaking. It now costs to enter on non worship days. You can get a pass for all the churches in the area for just a few euro. It would totally be worth it if you have a couple days to check them all out. However, if you are on a short visit I would recommend this one as a top choice for viewing.

It is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the designation Santa Maria Matricolare and it is an episcopal seat of the diocese of Verona. The tall tower can be seen from Saint Peter's hill. We drove the car to the cathedral, but we were quite surprised how compact the whole area around the cathedral is, so my family decided to stay in the car while I visited. The cathedral is absolutely breathtaking. Dante Alighieri visited the Duomo di Verona in the 14th century and mentioned cathedral in his Divine Comedy.

It was finished in 1187 and built in the romanesque style, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Over the years later on it was being modiefied several times. Together with the Sanmicheli's bell tower it is a lovely sight, too bad you can't get much distance between you and the church to really get a great view, the other buildings and streets are too close to it. But surely a must-see, one of the nicest churches here in lovely Verona.

The building was started in 1280 and construction continued for another 120 years, finally completing in 1400 and then consecrated in 1471. The façade is divided into three vertical section corresponding to the nave and the two aisles in the interior. Unfinished, the façade is mostly in brickwork. The center of the middle section is a simply rose window. From what I've read, the interior is impressive and I would expect so for a six-hundred-year-old church. This church here looks quite a bit different than the several other ones in this city. Finished in…read more1400 in gothic style, it is quite an amazing sight. Coming from the front you will almost miss the big belltower. The front entrance is almost made in a simple architecture, typical for the gothic period. From far it almost appears (by the color) made from wood, but of course it's not. There are many lovely churches and cathedrals in town, but this needs to be on the to-do list, and if only because of the different style it has.
