I've been coming to Samurai for about 13 years now and its still our favorite hibachi place. If you come here for lunch and take advantage of that hibachi special, you really can't go wrong. I really enjoyed coming here for the first time with my niece and mom for my mom's birthday last wk. The staff was friendly and quick. We dined at the hibachi grill. I got the teriyaki steak, my mom got the hibachi steak and niece got the kids hibachi with beef. I also ordered a shaggy dog roll and a sushi B combo. Definitely alot of food for 2 adults and 1 kid but I wanted sushi and got the remaining of my hibachi food to go. Everything was delicious! I told the staff it was my mom's birthday and they brought out a samurai hat with a sword to sing happy birthday to her and it was awesome, along with a candle in her cheesecake that I ordered. I've come here for years and today was my last. I've al always known those two people at the front (lady and guy) scam people but today they did it. There was six people in my group 3 kids 3 adults and still they tried to squeeze 3 more people in our table. That el didn't work out when the next group tried to sit down they said no way. Next. The waitress wrote wrong order cook prepared it. We told that lady up front wrong item was made. She took plate and scraped off two meats and brought plate back. Last party of six even if kids automatic 18% gratuity. This place has gone down hill with service, food and cleanliness. We have driven past this place for years and never knew it was a Hibachi place. We went for my husband's 40th birthday and the food was amazing! Everything was tasty and fresh! In our party of six we had everything from chicken, to steak, to shrimp and lobster! It was all good. The restaurant was very clean and the staff was both kind and attentive. I would say the hostess who came to sing happy birthday looked as if she could careless and was bored. The only disappointment was our chef's show. He was not super animated and I've seen much better shows elsewhere. I've been to enough places like this I could give them a few ideas, haha! The sushi is good. They have a great happy hour as well. I've always been satisfy every time I go for sushi. However for my birthday I decided to sit at the hibachi. It was a total disappointment. The chef Super boring. He literally just wondering cooked and cracked the egg he never said a word except when he asked if we wantted vegetables. I've been to plenty of hibachi shows and are usually entertaining. I also ordered filet mignon medium rare and mine was cooked medium well. And when I told him he insisted it was medium rare, like I don't know what a medium rare steak looks and taste like. If this was a sushi restaurant only I would give it five stars. Legit. Large sushi selection. Edamame is great, not too hard or too soft, and not drenched in salt. Great, friendly, attentive waitstaff especially when it is time for your next round of adult beverages. It is a nice place, you do not need to be ashamed of doing a "nice dinner" here. The price trends a little toward the high end for competitors (Ichibon) but when you walk outside to the car it is still something you can live with. I met a buddy here on a Thursday night and sat at the sushi bar. It was packed, but not so much that it was uncomfortable. The flavors were good overall, and the really do well in the "food art" department. The wasabi was good, albeit unusual, because it had a "light and airy" or "whipped" texture to it. It made it rather easy to dissolve in the soy sauce. The rolls were good, and the rice wasn't quite as sticky as I'm used to; not a bad thing. My red clam sashimi was tender -- at some restaurants I've found it to be tough or dried out. The prices are a bit on the "high side" for sushi in the Clear Lake area, but the quality is good and I think a fair amount of the "cost" goes into their use of "above average" artistic dishware and decor. One complaint is that our waiter was really rushing us along. In a 10 minute period (I timed him because it was so annoying), he came by SEVEN times to ask if we were ready to order. Really, if I ask for a few extra minutes to look over the menu, that doesn't mean come back 30 seconds later. All it does is distract me and cause me to take even more time. What *REALLY* pissed me off was that I had two plates with sushi on them, and while I was eating, the waiter came by and "merged" my sushi onto one plate. One plate had 13 pieces on it and one had 6 pieces. You do NOT come over while the customer is eating and use a pair of chopsticks to move the six sushi pieces from one plate to the plate with 13 pieces on it just so you can take one of the plates away. I don't care how low on plates they are in the back or how quickly you want to get me out of the restaurant... This is a BIG NO NO. Ugh. Annoying. Despite that, the food was pretty good so I'm giving this place 4 stars. They have hibachi tables as well, and from what I could see (and smell) the "show and dance" seemed to be pretty standard....but well orchestrated. I'd definitely recommend this place -- and I'll go back; but if the waiter rushes me again well....they'll be docked some stars. read more

Food The food was very tasty. We had the Hibachi grill. I ordered the Beef Julienne off of the Lunch Menu, which came with an Onion and Mushroom Soup. The lunch menu only had a small number of choices, which was a downside. The soup was very flavorful and rich, what you would usually taste in a Japanese restaurant. The Beef Julienne was very soporific and juicy. It was seasoned very well and topped with green scallions. Service The service was efficient and the chef was able to come to the grill very soon. Anything that we asked for came very quickly. There were lots of wait staff walking around, so you were able to ask for something right away and not have to wait in order to ask. Atmosphere What you would expect in a Japanese Hibachi Grill restaurant is an entertaining show where the chef does many neat and fun tricks. Our chef did not do many tricks and did not talk much. We go here about once every six months or so, because it's too expensive for people who eat out every meal. I don't do fish so we always do the hibachi table. Occasionally we go to Ichibon. The two seem about the same but I like the salad here better. As I say in a lot of reviews, for me salad is a socially acceptable transport medium for dressing and I like the dressing here. I've dinged them one star because sometimes the servers aren't very friendly and occasionally the steak is a little tough. We normally share a filet mignon with fried rice which is what we did tonight. The steak was tender and tasty. The drive-out price for one meal shared was a little less than $40. It's a lot more pleasant when the other diners at your table are gregarious, which was moderately so tonight. Sometimes they're fun and sometimes entirely uncommunicative. I am not quick to give a bad review. I would honestly rather not give a review at all than to give a bad review. If you see a bad review from me, trust me, it was a shit experience. Our initial red flag was when our chef came over to our table less than enthused. Forgiven, after he made up for it by focusing on wowing our kids. 2.) Our waitress disappeared after delivering appetizers, and only came back when I asked another employee for wasabi and ginger for my sushi because the person I was speaking to didn't understand what I was saying. 3.) The check was brought to the table without asking if we were ready for it. I added ice cream to our order for the kids. She reacted as if I were inconveniencing her with my request and walked away without acknowledging the order. My kids looked at me wondering if they were getting ice cream, obviously confused by her actions. When she dropped off the ice cream she didn't even have the courtesy to look at the children while giving them their dessert; simply laid it on the table and walked away. 3.) I want to state for the record my husband & I typically tip between 20-25% of the total bill. When I received the check, gratuity of 18% was already added onto it. Two adults, four children. I've never been automatically charged gratuity on a party of less than eight ADULTS, but whatever, you can keep your 18%. 4.) While our children were eating their ice cream the floor supervisor (I'm assuming it was the floor supervisor) came up to the table and asked if we were done because people were waiting (literal words), and if we weren't to walk over to the bar. 2 adults, 4 KIDS! She expected us to sit our children (ages ranging from 4 to 15) at a bar... to finish their ice cream... 5.) I was angry to say the least. I walked to the hostess table to ask for a manager and tell them how upset I was at the customer service we received (our waitress was there chitchatting) after spending close to $150.00 on 2 adults and 4 children and they proceeded to give me excuses as to why we received subpar service. When I told them, regardless of the excuses they were giving me, that I would leave a bad review due to my experience tonight the waitress told me, "Go ahead; feel free." Spend your money elsewhere. There are plenty of places in the area that will treat you and your family courteously and with respect. This place is not one of those. My "big sis" and I were deciding between Tokyo Bowl and Samurai and my mom suggested that we go with Samurai and that I introduce my friend to the hibachi. We walked in at a little past eleven and were the second earliest customers that day, and I asked to be seated where the hibachi was available. We ended up both ordering sushi rolls and just watching the hibachi onion volcano that sadly, did not go to us. I ordered edamame, Green Tea Ice Cream, and a Crazy Monkey roll (smoked salmon, cream cheese, peach topped with avocado and special sauce) for the first time and it looked very red and green and intense color-wise but was really good with soy & wasabi. My big sis ordered edamame ,a Spicy Salmon Roll and a Nemo Roll (salmon that's spicy). She said she didn't do anything other than salmon when it came to sushi. (She's missing out on the other great stuff!) I tried all three and loved it! I didn't know what the red crunchy mass was on top of my Crazy Monkey, but it was goodnevertheless! Presentations were amazing as always! It made taking pictures of them so much more fun! :] I think that was my third or fourth time at Samurai and I've had the hibachi salmon and orange roughy and a Bento box before. When I get a call from my husband around 3 or 4 on a Thursday afternoon I know exactly what he wants...."Sushi tonight?", he asks before I can even say hello. So off we go for a Sushi dinner. We really love this place. They treat us like kings! May, Andy, Coco and John are our friendly Sushi Chefs. We always sit at the sushi bar and have never sat at the hibachi (not really a fan of hibachi). We always start out the same...2 Kirin Lights, gyoza and shrimp tempura. As we nibble on our appetizers and sip, okay guzzle, our beer, we discuss the rolls for the night. Almost always John's Special roll is ordered. Our other favorites include Toledo, Twister and 7-11. We waited in excess of 30 minutes and watched every single person who came in after us get seated. When we decided to leave, we told the manager why we were leaving. It appeared that the cook knew that the couple at the same table would give a tip privately, and he started to favor them by giving them almost twice as much of my portion where it should equal. Having momentary cravings, I decided that I wanted to try another hibachi grill since being to one over 10 years ago when I was dating my ex-husband. I must say that although the skills are impressive, throwing food on my plate was not very palatable. The food was ok, and I have had much better Japanese food. We hit this place up on birthdays about once or twice a year. It had been a while so i requested it for my birthday. We had 8 in our party and had made a reservation. If you plam to go on a weekend with a large party make a reservation. They won't seat you until the majority or all of your party are there. We ordered crab puffs (typical cream cheese crispness) and spider rolls. The spider rolls had a fishy taste that we had not had in the past here. For hibachi we ordered chicken, beef shrimp and scallops. The shrimp were a bit fishy. Steak fabulous. Scallops good but most of the sear stuck to the grill.
