At 71, carefully transitioning from 50 miles of walking per week and three 2-hour gym workouts each week is crucial to my quality of life. Dr. Anderson has helped preserve my knees and hips by gradually replacing walking with lap swimming and incorporating a PT routine alongside moderate weightlifting during my gym time. He is also providing steady guidance for my other age-related challenges, including asthma and low-grade prostate cancer. This includes lap swimming to increase my lung capacity and referring me to the best local urologist for promising cancer treatments. I appreciate that he sees patients on a walk-in basis with minimal wait times, remembers my history, and patiently answers all my questions. It's no surprise he's the best-rated PCP locally by Humana!

To start of with : I have had good experiences with Nurse Pam and Dr Novak…read more However, the administrative side of this practice is really problematic. 1) Most appointments (in my experience) run much later than scheduled (in some cases more than 1 hour!). The practice says that if the wait time becomes too long they can reschedule, however I recently had to wait even longer during the rescheduled appointments. The actual appointments feel incredibly short and brief, but I guess this is the unfortunate state of healthcare in the US, wherein you only get to talk to your doctor for less than 15 minutes. Appointments do feel fairly rushed. 2) The front desk seems to be very disorganized with keeping track of payments, be careful to save all your receipts or risk getting constant letters that you owe money to the practice! In my experience, they have not properly recorded co-payment and claimed that I did not pay. I have otherwise had good experiences here, but these issues (long waits and poor billing organization) sadly makes for an altogether poor experience

He is independent and open minded, and will not try to corral you or subject you to one size fits all medical treatment. This is a small independent medical office, one that is increasingly rare these days, so what you might have to sacrifice in waiting times or sometimes overworked front office staff is more than made up for by the quality of personal medical treatment you will get from Dr. Novak.

She said "well, if you can't afford health insurance you shouldn't be buying anything out of pocket" DISCRIMINATION MUCH?? I was totally in shock. I would have expected for the staff to be there by 5:30 am, if they are asking patients to arrive at 6:00 am. I had Carpal Tunnel Surgery of my right hand, performed by Dr. Julie Gilbert, Everything went smoothly and the staff was kind. The rooms are all very modern and clean. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Diehl, took the time to actually sit down and explain in detail how he planned to do this and what he suspected had happened to me before. This was invaluable to me. It gave me the confidence to proceed and the knowledge of what to avoid in the future. If I could, I would only have Dr. Diehl ever put me under again! Everyone there from the ladies in Reception to the nurses in Recovery treated me like a real human being showing me compassion and caring. Connie started me off getting me settled in with her easy manner and sense of humor. Diane was with me in the OR offering comfort and stayed close and attentive while I was going under. Barb was there when I woke up-the part I was most scared of because of how I woke up before. Just for a few moments I thought I was in a video game LOL, but it was fine and lasted less than a minute. Barb patiently kept talking to me and I came around nice and easy. She continued with her care and we found out we had much in common having both worked with horses in our past. I am an older gal, disabled, and have to see quite a few doctors. The team at SMI is far and above any others I have experienced. Their care, knowledge and compassion are exemplary and worthy of the highest praise. Thank you everyone at SMI. All my best to you !!

I've finally switched doctors from Dr. Christine Wang at Scripps Clinic Carmel Valley. I don't even…read moreknow where to start with how terrible she is with her "bedside manner" and how annoyed she appears to be when you question her. She will message you with the results of a test with a very vague message that "your scan came back ok". Nothing more. Then when you respond to the message asking for clarification, you are told you need to book an appointment with her. Not even when you are asking a basic question. I call the office and speak to the nurse and am told I need to schedule an appointment with the doctor. This has been the case many, many times with this doctor. Then you get charged for another doctor visit when you were already charged for a doctor visit for the initial appointment. This drives up the cost of insurance and forces me to have to pay for another visit when all I needed was clarification for the test result. Sending a message that the test came back "okay" does not tell me details of my situation. When I booked the appointment recently to review a CT scan result that "came back okay", we did so on a video call and she literally rolled her eyes and actually let out a laugh at me when I questioned things. I didn't learn anything more from that call and she could have simply answered the same info in the message portal. Instead, she cost me more money for this additional visit that left me aggravated at how she treated me. At annual physicals, other Scripps doctors have sent me for my annual bloodwork before my physical so they can address the results at my physical appointment. Dr. Wang refuses to do that. Instead, she will order the lab work to be done after the visit. Once I do that and get the results back, she will message me with the results. If I have further questions, then I am required to make another appointment with her to discuss. This happens all the time. If she would have the bloodwork done prior to my physical like other doctors have done, then I wouldn't have to pay extra to make another appointment to discuss the results and ask my questions. Recently, I was planning to go on a cruise and reached out to her office to have a specific seasick medication prescribed to me. After several calls to the office requesting to submit the prescription to the pharmacy (as well as the pharmacy calling the doctor's office several times to assist in getting the prescription), they submitted the prescription but it was for the wrong form. I very specifically requested the pill form and NOT the patch form. They called in for a patch. Both the pharmacy and I made repeated calls to the doctor's office to get it called in for the pill form. (The pill form does not have some of the side effects that the patch has which is why I wanted the pill form. The pill form is a "compound" drug and needs to be made up at a special pharmacy and is not readily made.) So I called back the office (this was after 4 days of back and forth to get this corrected) and was told that Dr. Wang doesn't prescribe compound drugs and would not be able to prescribe it for me. That I would need to go to make an appointment with a doctor who can prescribe compound drugs. I told them that this is ridiculous since she is a doctor who should be able to prescribe a medication for seasick pills. We live in San Diego and I imagine with the Navy presence and ocean waters/boating/fishing industry, there must be plenty of people needing to be prescribed seasick medicine. They told me that they were sorry but Dr. Wang cannot prescribe compound medicines and didn't know how to prescribe this particular medicine! I responded that she is licensed to prescribe medicine and that she should be able to consult with others within Scripps or the pharmacy to be able to do so. I was very upset since I had run out of time to get in to see a doctor who could prescribe this medicine. So I called the pharmacy and thanked them for all the calls back and forth they'd made to Dr. Wang's office to try and help with this prescription but I was going to have to go on my cruise without it. The pharmacy called me the next day and told me that Dr. Wang's office had called in the compound prescription for this medicine in pill form! Dr. Wang's office NEVER called to tell me that. Somehow Dr. Wang figured out how to prescribe this basic medicine but never called me to apologize for all the back and forth issues or to even let me know that she could call it in afterall. They knew how upset I was but never called to straighten it out. I'm guessing they would have required that I make an appointment for her to talk to me like she has for everything else. Dr. Wang has a horrible bedside manner! She doesn't like when you question her or ask for details. She's annoyed with you questioning her. She should be encouraging you to ask questions about your healthcare instead of treating you like you are annoying her! I'm shocked that Scripps keeps her on staff.
