**This is really a 3.5 star review.** The family chose Sam's Boat because ... crawfish. (Not me. I'm too lazy for the peel-and-suck routine.) Because of the negative reviews that seem to populate this page, I offered up several other options to no avail. Glad I was outvoted. First, we were greeted by the hosts when our part of six walked into the door on a busy Sunday evening. We were seated within minutes, and our server was at our table for drink orders in about as long as it took me to check in on Yelp. The beer menu is a good one, with several domestics and micros on tap. There are daily adult beverage specials, if that's your thing. I'm not sure who was running the kitchen on our visit, but kudos, because everything came out hot and fresh. Furthermore, everything was damn delicious. -- The wings were as good as any I've had ... served crisp with a melty tender interior. Calamari was a little soggy, but tasty. The fried oysters were surprisingly good ... sweet to the point that they tasted fresh and local. And the red beans and rice were some of the best I've ever eaten in a restaurant. My only two complaints: The lack of soap in the built-in dispensers (they at least put out a pump bottle), and no Louisiana hot sauce. Why would you serve up Cajun fare and offer only Cholula and Tabasco? Either way, the food and experience here were excellent, and I plan to return. read more

Just got back from lunch at Sam's Boat. The food was good, but they had issues with the draft beer, couldn't get my wife's order correct even though it was described specifically. Then the credit card machine wouldn't work and for some reason they didn't have the idea to take down card numbers and enter them manually later. On top of this, after I described how to do this, the manager started being argumentative with me. I asked her not to argue and she just had to get in the last word, "I'm not arguing." (Uh that's arguing!). It's been a tough three days she says to me after I told her we'd been waiting for 20 minutes just to pay the bills. I looked at her and said, "That's not my problem. The manager wasn't any better, he only offered to take the crawfish off the bill instead of offering to get me a new batch. I'm so disappointed by the customer service I recieved today. What happened to this place? My wife and I used to love getting the red beans and rice. Either the chef has gotten lazy or this new recipe is garbage. The red beans were nothing more than canned kidney beans thrown in beef broth. Sprinkled some parsley and boom that's it. No seasoning and straight trash. The corn muffin was so hard it could have been used at Minute Maid for batting practice. I will also add that I'm not sure if it was the weather (a little cold and rainy) but this place was completely dead in a Friday night. Do better Sam's boat! read more

The food was good until my bf ate a long dark hair in his food half way through the meal.. He pulled it out of his mouth and it was at least 16 inches long. The waitress apologized and said the manager would come out and talk as well as get new food and remove his meal from the bill. We did get a new plate but that was it, no real care from the manager and no change in the bill. So gross. We didn't want cause a big scene but the way it was handled was unprofessional. Also, I think the margarita mix is rotten, the margaritas were literally the worst margaritas I've ever had. I have to say I was really disappointed this time. It's crawfish season and by far this was the worst one. They were small and flavorless. All of the seasoning was on the outside of the shell. The corn, potatoes, and mushrooms had great flavor but even the sausage was bland. Don't think I'll be coming back during crawfish season. read more

Went here last week for a late lunch. Chose this place for the beautiful patio combined with amazing weather. Food was great, as always. If you come here definitely try the crab queso! One of the few quality places on the water that's full scale restaurant/bar (without a heavy crowd). The ambience is there if you're looking for it. The service is great as we were seated immediately and had no issues or lapse in timing with our order. We all ordered the wings as they were suggested- which were awesome. My only two caveats are the restrooms were very poor maintained and stunk very much, and the unsweet tea was sweet upon 3 attempts- HOWEVER, our waitress (Ulyssa, Alyssa) made sure to make a fresh batch of unsweet tea and fix the issue! This review is only for my dish the crab balls, the stuffed redfish, Mac & cheese & crispy new potatoes. Crab balls-ok, but didn't taste much crab meat. Really disappointed. Order crab legs and they had none of the tools that you use to crack the legs. The waitress was new and was very sweet and did the best she could. The manager did come over and adjust the bill but overall it was not a good experience and wont be returning. read more

This was such a great place to watch the game. We spent about 5 hours here. The waitress was attentive the entire time. The prices were excellent for what you receive. This was my first experience, but I thoroughly enjoyed. There weren't very many people of color who were at this location, but during the half time show everyone in the place, young and older, regardless of race were jamming to the West Coast music. This is a good dockside seafood, bar on the water of Clear Lake close to Kemah. Usually crowded, there is an inside bar and outside bar you can smoke at, lots of choices of beer and seafood but mostly represents a bar with food. A lot of locals here that work on the water or related, or just visitors in town, this is the go to place on nasa pkwy for lunch or hanging out during a sunny day. Pretty large place, great views of the water, attractive waitresses- booths and tables inside, large wood bar inside, lots of TVs, then outside bar, smoking allowed, lots of tables, live music most nights I have been there, fantastic view and sunshine on perfect days. Come by boat, or large parking lot in front of the building its easy to find either way. When alone, I sit at the bar and get one on one service and watch a game or talk to the neighbors. Some specialties I like here are the crawfish, some of the best around in season, 5 lbs usually, spicy, really good. My standard is grouper finger basket or sandwich , hot fries. Their seafood sampler is great too for the fried food cravings as well as great shrimp, oyster, fish Po Boys. Their grilled fishes and veggies for the lighter side are good and good enough to eat again and my favorite the ahi tuna, or grilled yellow tail are fresh and always good and what I would expect here. This is a bar with great loud atmosphere so for what it is, its good. I've never been let down at lunch or dinner for food or service as I come here to relax and usually have several beers so don't pay attention to minor details that spoil my meal. Maybe cause I sit at the bar a lot, right in the middle inside or outside, the service has always been good for me. I;m keeping the 5 stars because as a boater and visitor here, the view, cold beer and decent food, this is exactly what I would expect for place on the docks, lots of boats, and live music thats typical of lake and ocean waterside escapes. Lots of TV's here playing sports. We visited when on a day without any major sports games so there wasn't that much of a crowd. We sat inside as it was rather breezy and warm outside. However it did look like it would be nice to sit outside by the water if the day had been cooler. I ordered wine but wouldn't recommend this as their wines were basic. But remember, this is a sports bar. The burger and sweet potato fries were good as well as the popcorn chicken salad. The quesadillas that came with the salad were a bit dry and filled with cheddar cheese. I would see if a Jack would make them softer and more flavorful. The service was fun and friendly. Sam's Boat serves their crawfish with the classic seasoning that tastes like Zatarain's Crawfish, Shrimp, & Crab Boil. This place is great for sports fans as the food is just your basic sports foods (burgers, wings, fries, etc) and there are plenty of screens. Went in on a Tuesday evening. We had our dog with us so we got to sit out on the deck. We got two pounds of crawfish, waitress asked if we'd like extra seasoning and drawn butter which we went for. The Crawfish were not bad. One medium sized potato per person, one segment of corn per person, and that's pretty much it. When we received the bill we saw that we were charged for the seasoning and two melted butters. I'm kind of glad I wasn't asked if I wanted a diet Coke refill, I have a feeling I may have been charged. The service was lacking although the seemingly locals sitting at the bar weren't for wanting more than their share of attention. Restaurant had gotten a little busy as our evening progressed, the outside area wasn't more than a third full. I'd go try out a few more places before coming back here to give it a second chance. More like a 3.5. Great place for a meal with a view or to watch sports. Picnic style bench seating on the patio. Most of the standard bar fare I've eaten here was tasty (nachos, wings, fries etc). The crawfish were really big and well seasoned but the seasoning was a little overpowering for the corn which was very spicy. The snow crab was good. I tried the stuffed snapper the last time I was there and was disappointed. It looked amazing but the flavors were off. The sauce had a strong mustard flavor and the crabcake stuffing was bland. The fish tasted old like it had been cooked and reheated. I was told the VOD was broccoli but got squash which had way too much garlic. I like garlic but you could literally scrape the minced garlic off in heaps. One thing that bothered me the last time we went on a Sunday afternoon was that we were told it was a 40 min wait for the patio even though my fiance could see three empty tables. We opted to sit inside and shortly after overhead another couple talking about the 15 minute wait for the patio. We figured by the time we finished our apps a table would be ready so I went back to the hostess to put in our name for a patio table and this time was told it was a 35 minute wait. Our table was ready in 15 minutes. I don't know if she was intentionally trying to discourage us from waiting for a table outside or if she was bad at estimating wait times but it was an odd discrepancy in such a short period of time. read more

Went for lunch after NASA with the family. The view on the water was gorgeous! The food was mediocre. The crab bites might as well be renamed to hush puppies, because they are all breading with little to no crab. The shark bites were super fishy. The catfish had great flavor, but the breading came off as soon as you picked it up. The fried shrimp and the view were the saving grace of our lunch. We aren't from the area, but I wouldn't return if I lived there. If I did, I would return for the view abs drinks only. read more
