His fixes were spot on and really strengthened my work. They weren't just cosmetic either, we did a lot of restructuring to support the root themes of the stories and make them better. I truly cannot imagine a better experience or a more encouraging teacher. A lot of other writing teachers I've had in the past get an idea in their head of how to fix a piece and try to steamroll you into executing it, but Alex was exactly the opposite! I reached out for advocacy support just days before my daughter's IEP meeting, clearly explaining that I am currently unemployed, have no income, and that my unemployment benefits have been exhausted. I submitted documentation, including my letter of separation, and followed up multiple times due to the time-sensitive nature. Despite this, the interaction remained focused on requesting additional financial documentation rather than offering any form of meaningful or immediate support. Even after stating multiple times that my income is currently $0, I was told that I did not qualify for any reduced rate without further proof such as bank statements or public assistance documentation. At no point was any temporary, limited-scope, or urgent assistance offered. Instead, I was ultimately directed to other organizations for help. As a parent trying to advocate for my child under a strict deadline, this felt less like support and more like a barrier. The process came across as rigid and transactional, with more emphasis placed on financial qualification than on the immediate needs of a child facing an upcoming IEP meeting. Families seeking urgent help during times of financial hardship should be aware that without very specific documentation, assistance will not be provided -- regardless of how time-sensitive the situation is.
