Awesome Awesome Awesome... The mission, the people, the passion, the purpose…read more.. Being His hands & Feet is what we're supposed to do & be. Second Harvest gets it and does it well. Second Harvest receives donations and they also purchase food and distribute it to the masses. Various churches, ministries, schools, individuals, agencies etc are able to receive food directly from Second Harvest Food Bank. Talk about paying it forward. Thousands of pounds of food comes thru here daily & Second Harvest is trusted to get it out to various food pantries & individuals. The word NO, doesn't exist here. Never have I seen a more benevolent group of people that are ALWAYS going over & beyond to help a person/families/groups in need. This place is a haven goodness. The volunteers POUR in and give of themselves, tirelessly!!! The senior boxes alone total 19,000 EVERY MONTH and volunteers come in daily shifts to assist with packing those boxes. PLUS, Second Harvest also feeds hot plates to senior citizens, lunch for school aged kids, good for pantries & still manages to do food giveaways to the general public that don't fall into the aforementioned categories. This place is a god-send!!! They accept food & monetary donations; so if you're able, pay it forward, be good to those in need!!!

I can also appreciate the level of organization that exists during volunteer sessions so each person plays a part in helping things run smoothly. It's so easy to sign up and join a season. I highly recommend adding it to your weekly or monthly schedule!

When I first read about this unique little box in the paper, I was excited about the idea and I knew I had to check it out for myself. Located in the Community Garden in Algiers Point, this little box of blessings works in the same way a Lil Free Library does: you put in what you can and you take out what you need. It's meant to serve those in the community who might be having a tough time and may need some extras to eat or even basic toiletries. I headed out to the box and I was happy to add some cans of chicken noodle soup, baked beans and yams. I've made a commitment to add to the box weekly, to make sure that the pantry stays full. The box was started and is maintained by Becky Hicks who makes daily donations to the box. This is such an easy way to help others and do a little "feel good" type of thing. This is the first box of it's kind in New Orleans, but I'm hoping that the idea takes off because it's a simple way to take care of others in the community. Today, these kindergarteners got to help out by sorting through the candy, and as you guessed, they loved it! The two guy workers who were here were so informative, fun, and patient with our girls. We got to walk around and tour the first floor and see all the ins and out of the food bank, which was so impressive. I won't attempt to spout any facts I've learned on this tour, except that the GBR Food Bank only has 6 employees, so everything else is volunteers - so cool considering how huge of an organization it is. They do a family night for volunteers on one Tuesday of the month, so we're definitely planning to come back to help! No age minimum, just register ahead of time. As far as helping out the food bank, there are many ways to do it. They said that time is truly the most helpful. However, donating food, donating money, helping to spread the word for others, etc. are all great things. Spread the word and do anything you can to help out our community in need. Lastly, it's not just food that can be donated. They have diapers and dog food too. So many ways to help this great organization.

She said I had .misunderstood her about the value of the points. My husband and I both heard her promise 100 in points. We are both competent people who understand the English language language. Saying I misunderstood was insulting. I attempted to complain via email to her supervisor but it was intercepted by Sarah by Sarah. She responded with the same claim that I misunderstood her.
