This place isn't a pro ballpark but wow, we had a lot of fun! They had a good selection of snacks and drinks. They had Engineer Bob on the mic and they put on a good entertaining show in between innings. The players definitely balled out and hustled every play. It was a good game, too! They had the audacity to say I was the problem and purchased the same seat multiple times rather than different seats. I was one of the dozens of people waiting for an explanation and a refund. This is one of the saddest baseball fields I've ever seen. It is built facing the sun, so games can't start until nearly 8 pm because the sun blinds the batters before it sets behind the giant, ugly, green wall in left center field. After the Blaze moved out, the stadium has been run down. Extremely dirty, the scoreboard doesn't work, the field isn't well kept, it's very sad. I wanted to get a water in the second inning because it was 106 at 8:30 pm and they sad they had ran out. They have barely any food options besides candy. If you are in this area and wan't to see a baseball game, sadly, I recommend taking the drive to Visalia to see the Rawhide. read more

Baseball game it's self was good but everything else was painful to be a part of. Train robbers have so much potential to be a fun exciting team to watch but they need to get rid of who ever runs the park. Concession food stand is expensive and sucks so bad. It seems like everything is ran by old and outdated people. For starters find a way to fill the stands! Really like 10 people watching, the team deserves better. Not sure why there are negative reviews on this old ballpark being a dump. Except for the battered parking lot we found it to be a comfortable and friendly place to enjoy a baseball game. It appeared the seats have been recently replaced, and everything else was spick and span including the restrooms. They even had a great local beer (name?) on tap. The lady working the souvenir room (Sunday 5/24/2015) was especially cheery and helpful. Yep, got me some Blaze hats and a t-shirt. Yelp Bud Dan B is their radio announcer, and we climbed the stairs to the booth to visit with him for a few minutes pre-game. Cool Kat! This is the home of the Bakersfield Blaze, a high Class A team of the California League. It is famous for having been built "backwards", meaning the batter looks directly into the setting sun during night games. Advantage pitcher! Me being old and pasty we opted for the "cool zone", which offers covered seating making our couple of hours here perfect weather-wise. These were located near first base, and like anywhere in this small park, very close to the action. They were the most expensive seats at $12 each. No need to buy advanced tickets, as I was told when I called a month ago. Sadly there was maybe just 100 spectators on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. WTH else do these folks have to do on a picture perfect day for baseball? Per a local we met earlier that day, they lose too much for most of the locals to support them. Too bad. Our only complaint was when we arrived shortly before the noon start, we were told that the game had been pushed back to 1:00 because a country act had played the night before and they were still cleaning up. I love stuffing my face with hot dogs, sunflower seeds, and a beverage while enjoying a baseball game and atmosphere created by fellow baseball fans. So, yeah, this place is very old and some say dumpy. But, I like it. It's homey and cozy to me. Plenty of free parking. Easy in and out. Tickets only $10, front row, right at field level... Can't beat that! And, the Blaze were playing the San Jose Giants the day I was there. Go Giants! I went to see the Blaze play a game at "Sam Lynn Ballpark". The Bakersfied Blaze are a high A team that play in the California League. Don't expect a modern ballpark - this one is one of the oldest in Minor League Baseball. I loved the place nonetheless. I wondered who Sam Lynn was and after asking many people who he was - and not getting an answer finally found out. He was a man who became wealthy as a Coca-Cola bottler who then went on to become one of the founders of the California League. They sold Pepsi at the game. Definitely a dump. This place has history and I can respect that. A lot of great players have come through this stadium. However that doesn't make up for the fact that the restrooms here are sub par even by highway rest stop standards. The seats are falling off of their base and expect to be snacked on by mosquitoes at night. The beer and food prices are high but I didn't feel gouged like at a Dodger game. The positives include free parking and cheap tickets. If you want to see a ball game for cheap and don't mind the dilapidated surroundings in a bad area of town than this is a good place to go. I definitely would come back but I think that's just because my love for baseball trumps any fear of potentially acquiring body lice. read more

This place is a bit of home town nostalgia where one can still root for the home team, eat some junk food, and relax. True it is not like going to Dodger stadium but who wants the long freeway drive, the ridiculous costs of food and tickets, and the terrible crowds anyway. This is Bakersfield for Bakersfield at an affordable cost. We attended a Yelp event here last night and couldn't have asked for a better game. (We won 6 to 0 over the Quakes.). The food was delicious. The beer was cold. The employees were warm and friendly. And there was plenty of parking. We plan to attend often in the upcoming future and I hope everyone else will too. read more

This is a 70 year old historic stadium named for one of the pioneers of the California League, Sam Lynn. The ballpark is the current home of the Cincinnati Red's High A affiliate, the Bakersfield Blaze. The stadium is quaint. The seats and grass infield have been redone in the past year. There's a small concession stand, team store and clean restrooms. If you sit in the lower box seats, the service is excellent. The bleachers also offer an unobstructed view, (bring a glove). This is a really small field which plays fair as the wind seems to perpetually blow in from center and left. The design is such that when the sun goes down a batter would be literally blinded. Therefore, they've done 2 things to prevents this: 1. Moved the starts to 7:45 PM; and, 2. Installed a "Batter's eye"-basically a huge wall in center field. I guess they were thinking day games when this place was built. The place is amazingly quiet. The night we went their were 399 people attending per the box score. My guess on actual fans was 75. Even if you added the media, Scouts, Teams, employees and umps I don't think the attendance would have been 150. When I visited Visalia to the Rawhide, I thought I'd seen the smallest stadium in the California league. According to Wikipedia, this place holds 3500. Sorry, but this seems off by an order of magnitude. It was cool to see Ken Griffey, (SR) in his first year of managing. read more

I loved Sam Lynn Ballpark when they had a REAL baseball team playing there. This Trainrobbers thing is a joke. We tried to buy tickets online through their website - they didn't send the tickets even though it says they will be emailed within 10 minutes. When we inquired about the tickets - the customer service was rude, didn't apologize, and one gentleman with an Australian accent even laughed at us as if it was funny we hadn't received the tickets days later. The game itself is poorly ran. A game at any of our local high schools functions better. The players throw temper tantrums. The park is poorly ran. The concession stand resembles something from a little league game - at best. They play games with kids between every inning causing the game to drag on far longer than necessary. Seriously - by 11pm we were at the BOTTOM of the 7th inning. Ridiculous!!! The pitcher was awful and kept hitting all the batters and then threw a tantrum when he was pulled from the game. This isn't real baseball - it's a joke. The Blaze ran that place with a decent level of professionalism - this new organization (considered a "fantasy" league, btw) is like the cockroaches scurrying in after the fair has left town. I will say this place was easy to get to and had free parking. Sam Lynn Ballpark is at the bottom of California League facilities. Bakersfield badly needs a new ballpark, if there is a political will of course. This is the only ballpark that I am aware of where the sun sets in the batter's eye. Because of this, game times will be 7:45 pm later on in the summer. On the brighter side, staff extends a warm welcome to their guests and a pleasant experience to watch baseball after sunset. Because I enjoy baseball, I would be back again. read more

Parking is a little crazy, I couldn't really tell where the lines were on the ground, but it's free parking! Their snack bar is a little pricey, but the entrance tickets are cheap so it evens out. This was my first time coming to watch a game at this park. They're low budget so things are little unorganized. The game was good and they tried to make it fun and get people involved but what disappointed me the most was when we were buying our tickets (mind you our first time) they didn't have prices posted. So the lady working it said general was $6 and premium (up front) was $10. We opted for the $10 tickets, she gave us no stub or anything as proof of our purchase which we thought was weird and then come to find out you can sit anywhere. We all know how hot it is in Bakersfield and you are not allowed to bring in one measly bottle of ice water. That is aside from the fact that we are in the middle of a drought. The water bottles are killing us. Otherwise, the bottles of water are $3 each. Ice cream this is normally $1 is also $3 here. That is more or less 300% profit since you can buy a case of 24 bottles for that price, and even cheaper when they are on sale. The food is very over priced for the portion and quality. The pizza was a very small slice that appeared to have been sitting out a good while. It was very tough, dry, and rubbery. The $6 Nachos, $2 more to add meat, with the "taco meat" were barely big enough of a portion for a child and the taco meat looked like Alpo and was greasy and disappointing. I ordered at the window but just as a heads up, when ordering from your seats the attendant should let you know there is a $10 minimum before asking if she can bring you anything. I don't mind paying stadium prices and have, but this here is no Dodger Stadium. The portions and quality is just poor. Cant say we will be back again. -Very disappointed family of six. read more

I'm from Colorado, looking to spend a fun time with a friend. I was instantly disgusted to find that not only do they check your bag like you're a criminal, but they will not let you bring in outside water bottles, even empty, which is ridiculous and tells me the park is only interested in taking your money than allowing people to have a good time. All I wanted was to be able to watch a baseball game and stay hydrated. Nope. Will not be back or recommend to others. Disappointing. Even rules and policies at Coors Field are not this strict. I would give this new team a zero if I could. The Bakersfield Train Robbers are a complete joke!! I signed my son up for the baseball camp that is advertised on THEIR website. My husband took the day off of work and when they got there this morning it was completely empty. Not a single person was there except another family waiting for the camp. There was no sign stating it had been cancelled, no phone call, no email...nothing. I tried calling both the number listed on my Paypal receipt and the number on their website, no one answered and recording said mailbox is full so I couldn't leave a message. This is the second time it got cancelled without notice. The first time, June 8th, I only found out it was cancelled because I kept calling to see when it would be over so I knew if I needed to pack a lunch or snacks and someone finally returned a call to the missed call on their phone (mailbox full, couldn't leave a message). He said, oh tomorrow's been cancelled but assured me that June 30th camp was going to happen and he would put my son on the list. This is absolutely unacceptable! What a sad display of business practice by a team that is trying to make a start in Bakersfield. We will never go to a game and support this team. read more
