Looks like - perhaps I should say, "tastes" like Sal's is back; back to making great pizza and a whole lot more. This family-friendly pizza shop may have and a small hiccup in its quest to bring their customers the best, when they changed their dough recipe and also switched from pre-made to hand-breading their calamari. But that little bump in the road has disappeared. Sal's has everything you would want for a quick lunch break, dinner with the family, or FUN time for the kids after a ball game. Sal's starts by doing their pies "your way"... order the toppings and desired "doneness" for your pie and Sal's will make it happen. Check the lunch special on the dry-erase board: usually a couple of slices and a drink, or a special sub, or maybe just a salad - all for a great price. My all-time favorite remains - the "Eggplant Parmigiana"...breaded, tender slices of eggplant smothered in savory sauce and topped with bubbly cheese. You can have it as a filling appetizer or full-blown meal with pasta and a salad. Jalapeño Poppers really do "pop" with flavor-crisply fried coating, and creamy cheese filling to temper the heat of the peppers just right. Did I mention their sauces are homemade? You bet they are! And, they're good. (On our most recent visit our 16 month old grandson grabbed a (partial) cup of marinara from the table and licked it clean. It's that good.) The pizza crust is New York style - you can order it thin, well done and then hold it up - it won't flop onto your lap. Another plus: the puffy, bubbly rim; that's good yeast-raised pizza. By the way, "well-done" is just that...not scorched or burned...it's beautifully browned, well done! Wings...are just ok. But, there are plenty of other options for great appetizers as well as full meals. Salad? Absolutely! The Antipasto is classic...and a good size to boot. Travel note: Hand-breaded calamari - best eaten on the spot; it doesn't carry well if you have it as a take-out. (Hot out of the deep fryer its's great. Three years since my initial review. I have found two places in the State that offer solid NY style pizza, Joeys in Nashville and Sal's in Franklin. For those of you not from NY/NJ and have not had giant slices of goodness then you dont know what you are missing. If you like brick oven flatbread style this is nothing like it. A hidden gem in the Franklin area. Family owned and operated. Okay first I gotta say im not a big carb eatter. I gotta work hard at keepig my weight down and as much as I love bread, potatoes, pasta but mostly bread, I have to stay away and when I do cave, its in moderation. Sal's was a worthy adversary. We found Sal's while in Franklin to visit family. Our impressions: the food was well-made, we enjoyed a Supreme Pizza and two side salads. Service: the waiter was friendly and helpful in explaining menu items, our food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time. Ambience: a basic casual dining experience, multiple screens playing baseball, etc., dining room was clean and uncluttered. The only negative was a strange experience as we were leaving. An older gentleman (owner? manager?) suddenly called out to my 76-year old husband, who happened to be wearing board shorts and a tee shirt, that next time he came in he should wear a different swimsuit so they could see which was brighter. I come here all the time as I live right next door. The pizza (and eggplant parm.. one of my favs) is always delicious and the customer service is always spot on. They really go above and beyond here. One time I placed an order for delivery and the delivery driver mistakenly forgot my drink.. he was so kind and came back to my house in less than 10 minutes and was out of breath from running to get me my order as quick as possible. Seriously, they are doing something right with their wait staff! But today I am here to brag on the wings as I ordered the buffalo wings last night, the sauce was perfect, the chicken wings were large and juicy, I even ate them again for lunch today as leftovers, still so delicious!! It Wednesday again and my giant appetite is looking for some giant food! Im off work and on the hunt. Today Im headed West 200 miles to meet a friend for a 36 inch [pizza called the "Godfather" this is a food challenge that you and a partner have 30 minutes to complete, if you fail you cough up 85 bucks and they shame you with a picture on the wall under the caption "I got whacked by the Godfather" and a losers Tshirt that states the same. If you complete this daunting Task you get a winners Tshirt and a picture on the wall of fame, which was still blank! We came prepared to change that today. When they brought out this behemoth it was way bigger than the table it rested on and a bit intimidating. The food was ready, the timer was set and we went in, we flew through the first half and slowed a bit as we began our way into the second half at 28 minutes we rang the victory bell as the very first winners in a 6 year run. We basked in our glory as we took our photo for the wall of fame. Then collected our winners shirts and gift cards. The food was good. The people were great! I'm here trying to order pizza and support a local business yet this guy was annoyed I asked him if there were specials as if I insulted him. His snarky reply was "no, we don't have specials!" I'm like, ok.. what kind of business, (especially a pizza parlor) not have specials. When I mentioned I had coupons I received in the mail from THEIR own add, he said they weren't redeemable, that I had to use them to "dine in." The tipping point of this absurd experience came when he told me, "why don't you call back when you're ready to order?" Fantastic delivery dinner in Franklin! We rarely order pizza but were not feeling like cooking, so I hopped on Yelp and searched for delivery pizza. We've never been by Sal's but decided to give them a try. I'm so glad I did! Since we did not dine-in, I can't speak to the service, but I can say our order was delivered at the stated time and was correct. I was impressed that the delivery fee was only $2.99! We ordered a small Greek salad and pepperoni and banana pepper pizza. I was very impressed with the prices! The salad was only $5.49, and I love adding a salad to pizza, so I was thrilled that it was affordable. The salad was great and super fresh! A simple, traditional Greek salad with a tangy house vinaigrette dressing. The pizza was NY-style, thin crust with ultra gooey cheese. The 14" (medium) size included 8 slices and was perfect for 2 people. So glad we finally found a local convenient and affordable pizza joint in Franklin. They have a super easy to use website.
