Went on a busy Saturday night and had to wait about an hour to be seated. (To be expected, really not a big deal)We had our dog so we asked for outdoor seating. We ordered the burger and the avocado shrimp salad. Both dishes were perfect. Our server recommended the key lime pie and we couldn't pass on it. It was delicious. Decided to go back here for date night tonight and we both had a few tummy issues. The food was good. I must say it is consistent but I'm pretty sure something is up with the liquor. Whenever I drink cheap liquor I break out on my tongue and I did tonight. I ordered Tito's which I drink at home and I have never broken out. Hubby ordered Basil Hayden which we also drink at home. The food was good this time early dinner on Friday. We had the avocado and grilled shrimp salad and the bacon cheeseburger. Food was quite good (not like last visit where blackened red snapper was WAY over cooked like a hockey puck). So this time, due to good reviews from friends, we went again and ordered completely different items and the food was good. Avocado shrimp salad was a bit overkill on the lettuce--very large bed of lettuce but good. They were featuring Margaritas in a few flavors so did order one classic, on the rocks, and first was ok, little watery, second one was perfect so different mixology or would have given Salt Shack a 5 star. Second time eating here. Really like this place. Ate outside on deck and wasn't cold. (January). Overlooks lake. Menu isn't large but enough choices. I am not a fish person so that edits food choices. We both had shrimp. Me, curry and husband had grilled with guava dip sauce. Would order both again. Split a key lime pie. Good. Decided to drive down to Clermont after church on Sunday and find a place to eat lunch. After looking on yelp, I immediately knew I wanted to try out Salt Shack! I'm so glad I did! We had my in-laws with us as well as the kids and everyone enjoyed the food. I got the grouper, the kids got a chicken and shrimp basket, burger for the hubby and the in-laws got a crab cake burger and steamed clams. We also got gator bites for the table which were really good! Our server, Courtney was nice and knowledgeable, and service was pretty quick. I drink a lot of water and before my water was empty, she had already brought me a new without me asking. That speaks volumes to me. It's a very causal atmosphere, and open air seating overlooking the lake which is really nice. It was a bit windy yesterday, so we wanted to sit inside. read more

Out on a bike ride today and decided to stop and try this restaurant near the lake, the setting was perfect to ending a 20-mile bike ride. Unfortunately, the service was not perfect, not even close. The waiter was not friendly and seemed disappointed that we asked to move our seats due to the "love bugs" flying around our table everywhere and landing in our drinks. His comment was "they are just going to follow you around, they like people". The restaurant had several fans that would have helped, but they were all turned off, until other patrons complained about the bugs and asked that the fans be turned on, which they did. After my brother ordered a medium-rare burger and me ordering a well done burger, the waiter mixed them up and it was too late to switch plates as my brother had already eaten a few bites. I mentioned to the waiter that I had ordered a well done burger and he looked down and said oh sorry looks like he got it! (Pointing to my brother) He then just said sorry about that and walked off. Never asked to send mine back to be cook longer or offer to get me another one. Five minutes later he came by and asked if we needed anything and I said well as I mentioned my burger was not what I ordered and he said he would see what he could do, he came back and said he would take four dollars off our total. I said four dollars? The burger was $14. I said you should take the whole thing off because I wasn't going to eat it and you guys made the mistake, he then walked off and didn't say anything else and again came back minutes later and said I'm going to take the $14 off. And I said thank you that's the right thing to do and he said yeah well things happen. It was a very unpleasant situation, the waiter was very rude from the beginning and should have been a little more accommodating. I gave him a 20%, tip only because I know he didn't cook the food and he wasn't the one who delivered our meal, but his attitude towards the situation was not pleasant. I like the tacos I don't have to change anything in them, which is great for me because I'm very fussy. Also, that's good because the cook is not very accommodating when it comes to changes. For instance I wanted to have the tuna tartare, but I wanted the tuna cooked and they refused.. now I know that it's not supposed to be that way however if your customer requests it and I suggested they just deconstruct it and I would take it like that, no problem, but no, nothing. Very disappointing. The staff is good, friendly and helpful. The place is simple. They have outside seating and I like the atmosphere though it does get really busy at times there seems to be enough space for everybody. read more

The ambiance and setting is 5 stars. Eating outside on the edge of a lake with the breeze is fantastic. That's the best part, and the only reason to come here. The food is okay, it's quite greasy and the flavor is fine, but for the same money you can get better food almost everywhere else. The drinks are great so if you come for drinks and to chill, and go eat elsewhere, that's perfect. The second time I went, I met someone who was clearly part of management and she was grumpy and rude. No hospitality, I told her I was meeting someone there and she told me that I was wrong, the people I was meeting weren't there because they weren't open and I needed to leave. I was only 15 minutes early and all of the staff were eating so it definitely appeared like they were open. I'm hoping this business gets new management and a new chef soon, because the location is amazing and I would eat here all the time if the food was good. read more

What a great addition to downtown Clermont. Salt shack has become a staple in our household. We love to bring visitors from out of town here. The menu, the drinks and the views are great to show off. we tried the oysters today they were fresh and placed over ice ! compared this to the Oyster bar and realize yes that's how oyster bar should serve theirs as well... over a tray of ice which keeps it nice and cold. The food was tasty, the prices were affordable... The chef special blackened fish with a coconut sweet rice was delicious. The churrasco was perfectly cooked but under seasoned. The grouper ceviche was good. The blackened grouper fish tacos were on point. The key lime pie was lightly tart more on the sweet side with condense milk flavor. The rum cake was a bit on the bland side, we rather order the key lime pie next time with the mind set of a sweet dessert. Coincidentally, they sat us in the same patio spot from the last time we ate from Lilys. The pain killer and rum pina colada was very tasty! We will definitely come back again. read more

Third visit here on Sunday around 11:30 Good part, lobster bisque excellent, spicey, served very hot, which is great. Gator bites were excellent but after waiting 28 minutes for it to served, they were room temperature. Bad part, it was less busy than previous visits but too way too long for our order. Fish special was snapper which was a little dry. This time they would substitute out rice for jicama slaw, sad. A little disappointed as for the long wait, and said they no straws, no minor substitute and room temp gator bites. We will probably try again. I'll bring my own straw. read more

We wanted to check out this place as we love sitting outdoors overlooking the water with our dog in tow, so this place is supposed to check all of those boxes! Unfortunately, we had a really bad experience here - and that was before we could even get to our table. I went to the host stand while my husband parked the car and asked for a table for two on the patio. They had a seat for us right away - but they wouldn't seat me because my party wasn't complete. Not a problem, totally get it. Less than 5 minutes passed and my husband was there and we were ready to go! I went back to the hostess and said we were ready. The hostess (who we later found out was the General Manager) told us "Oh, we gave that away because you weren't ready" - Ummm, OK. So, they got us another table - unfortunately, the table was on the side of the restaurant with the gravel and picnic tables and the particular table didn't have any shade. Not great for us or our pup. So, I asked if we could wait for a table on the actual patio. This is when the GM told us that "we don't offer preferred seating". I said, "That is fine, can we just wait for a patio table". She repeated, "We don't offer preferred seating." I again said, "That's fine, we will just wait for a table on the patio, we don't want to sit in the dirt with our dog. So we can wait." She then turns to the training hostess and said "This is the problem with this situation we had someone else do this and it took them 2 1/2 hours to get a table, that's why we don't do preferred seating." Mind you, I am still standing right there!! That is when I said that I didn't love the attitude I was getting and that we wouldn't be eating there and to take us off her list. My husband then went up to clarify why we weren't thrilled - it no longer had to do with the seat, it was the attitude. It was at this point she introduced herself as the General Manager. She was very defensive and when my husband asked her name so he could bring this issue up with the owners she said "KIMBERLY...K-I-M-B-E-R-L-Y! Make sure you get it right!" I don't know if Kimberly is homophobic, was having a really bad day, or has been in restaurant work too long and needs a refresher on service, or, a break to recharge her batteries. But, until she has an attitude adjustment, or they find another leader for their restaurant, we will not be visiting. read more

This is our second visit to the Salt Shack in Clermont. Our experience the first time was top notch (even with a 2 hour wait) so we were excited to come back. Our drive is 35-40 minutes and totally worth it! We waited this time about 45 minutes and again just like the first time we went to the inside/outside bar and grabbed a drink and hung out. Everyone was so friendly. This includes staff and patrons. We were sat inside this time and again they were very busy. It did take almost 15 minutes before we were acknowledged but honestly, as we watched we were totally aware that we sat as the day shift employees were switching out to the evening employees, Coming from a hospitality background we understood. We ordered the wings again (had them the first time too) for an appetizer. These wings are better than wings I can get at any other wing restaurant around. They are absolutely delicious. I'm not sure if it's their sauce or what but we just love them! You get 10 wings for $14.95. I highly recommend them! For dinner I chose chicken tacos. The mango salsa on the tacos is delightful! What a burst of flavor! It comes with a side and today I chose the fries which were hot and crispy, just like I like them. My husband had the tuna tartare which is one of their appetizers ($14,95) for his meal. He can't say enough about the quality taste of this dish! Definitely enough to be a meal. My adult daughter had the special which was a grouper sandwich. She enjoyed the sandwich but not the cost. The sandwich was $25 with a side. We understand that seafood is expensive but the size of the fish on the sandwich we don't feel warranted $25 (picture attached). We each had a cocktail or two, including a bloody mary that my daughter said was one of the bests she's ever had! My husband had a Salt Shack Mai Tai which is made with Appleton Estate Rum and topped with Myer's Dark Rum. I stuck with my red wine and really enjoyed (both times) the Freakshow Cabernet. We were way too full for dessert but will definitely give that a try next time. We highly recommend Salt Shake on the Lake in Clermont. Great service, super ambience (nice and casual), and the food, though a bit pricey is absolutely delicious! read more

Been here many times and always have a great experience. I have ordered the steamed shrimp and the ceviche for appetizers. Entrees I have ordered the grilled snapper, grilled shrimp, pulled pork plate, and the skirt steak. I have no complaints. I am gluten free and all those items I was able to eat! We were asked by a bartender at another location to review the Salt Shack because she had heard their service wasn't that good. We found quite the opposite when we visited. The bar had plenty of staff to fill drink orders for both those sitting at the bar and those orders from tables. We didn't find any lag time between ordering drinks and being mixed by very capable bar staff. The staff even suggested a few options we hadn't thought about, but throughly enjoyed. The atmosphere of the Salt Shack was refreshing, clean and accommodating to those wanting, table, bar or beach side service. Staff kept the place clean and amply supplied with fresh fruit and accompaniments. We especially enjoyed the service of Makala at the bar, she had just the right mix of service and personal attention that made our visit that much more enjoyable. The food had just the right amount of spices. We recommend the Smoked Mahi Fish Spread. We enjoy the taste of hot wing style sauce and were disappointed by the lack of selection of this as an option with our meal, but still the meal had a more than appealing taste. We are sure this restaurant will be and deserves to be, a success! It has all the necessary elements to be both a local place to enjoy and a visitor or snowbird location to visit for years to come. We were very excited for the opening of this highly anticipated restaurant taking over for the old failure that was there. Clermont is a fabulous community on the lake and it deserves a great restaurant and bar with boat access. The food was fresh and tasty, I had the crab cake sandwich and my husband has the fried shrimp basket we topped it off with a slice of homemade key lime pie and it was incredible. The service was prompt and friendly. The ambiance was amazing on the lake and they have remodeled it and added nice seating outside. This will be a summer go to for sure! AAA+++ read more

I had the Tuna Tar Tar appetizer as a meal and it was excellent. I ordered a side of fries and all together, I had enough to share a little. I tried the dirty banana and it was lacking in flavor. My bestie had a Pina colada with Strawberry and a Meyers dark rum floater and we all tasted it and agreed it was awesome. This place is a joke, not sure how it has received any 5 star reviews. The only thing I can think is all these local people have been dying to get an establishment like this and the lake air is clouding their judgement. The Tampa location is one of a kind and this proves you cannot add a different location with the same name. There was no hostess at the front, I had to walk in to find someone. It truly is not the hostess' fault because they had her running around cleaning tables etc instead of focusing at the front right where the sign says wait to be seated. One good thing I will say is that the wait was minimal even after I had to chase someone down. Weekday afternoons like 2pm appear to be the best time. There were so many flies in the inside area where we sat, so who knows what was going on for people outside. It was comical watching everyone swatting them away so it was not just me. I had the classic Pina colada which is a must for the Tampa location BUT the server took so long to pick up my drink from the bar it was half melted by the time it arrived to me and look at the poor pineapple....it has seen better days. Trust me I know how long it took for it to be retrieved from the bar because I watched it just sitting there. The food was blahhhh and hey maybe it is was what I chose? Had the pork sandwhich w/fries. I know I know I am at a seafood place but after sitting and taking things in I did not feel like ordering seafood.
