First haircut since I moved here from Brooklyn- my wavy/ curly hair had not been cut since August…read more2023- and the whole experience wildly exceeded my expectations. First of all, Rutabaga salon = John. So, no distractions. Chill environment, John has quiet confidence & is comfortable in his skin, so you are instantly at ease. You can just be yourself. (Not every salon or stylist is like this- sometimes it feels like poser central & it's just exhausting.) We talked about what I wanted, he washed my hair, and cut it- conversation flowed easily, but I also sensed that if I just wanted to be quiet that would have been fine also. But- let's talk about the cut! Layers can go very wrong with my hair, so I have avoided them for 5 years. Length weighs my curls down so that it is wavy. When it is cut: boing! And my curl pattern is irregular. I don't blow it dry. My styling method is: wet my hair. Add non-silicon leave in conditioner (As I Am, Camille Rose, JVN). Maybe a little salt spray or tiny bit of oil once it dries. John, of course, knew this, because he *asked*. Post haircut- I wake up- my hair looks great. My hair looks amazing wet, too. The layers frame my face and don't do anything weird-- you have NO idea how many times that has not been the case. [The last time I had layers it was a "precision" cut and the stylist used some kind of cream full of beeswax that my porous hair sucked up. I looked like I had a wig. And of course that was the week I had my corporate head shot.] So, TL; DR: Reasonably priced, first-rate haircut. Focused, expert stylist who will put you at ease. TWO TIPS: parking for the salon is on E. Howard, so make the turn either right after you cross the railroad tracks or right before- depending on which way you are going. Book in advance!! Unsurprisingly, he stays busy. I booked my March appointment in February- it was well worth the wait, but don't expect to call & get a slot straightaway.

Maggie is amazing! Loved Fresche!!!…read more I finally made the trek to this gem of a salon which was well worth the drive. The salon is located in an adorable location that has warmth and character as opposed to so many salons that are so sterile with their décor. Every detail in the surroundings makes it a very inviting place to get your hair done. As a result of my crazy schedule, the staff were able to accommodate me right away with my limited time. I have very thick and twiggy hair and desperately needed to get something new in my color to help brighten it up. I have had no time to get it cut and was just desperate for something to help soften my look before my team's newsletter pictures went out in the mail in late August. It was my good fortune that they turned me over to Maggie for my first visit to help me. She sat me down and listened listened tentatively asking me many questions on everything from styling to the direction I part my hair. She was really listening to how I did my hair in the morning as she inspected my color. Most importantly, she asked my opinion about how far I wanted to go with the highlights making sure we were completely on the same page. She made a few suggestions to me but made me feel comfortable about what suggestions she thought may work with my hair. We agreed to go with a layered cut that had a partial foil with color that was a little lighter but Maggie explained AND promised would look completely natural. No truer words were spoken. She managed to take so much of the weight that was really causing my hair to not style right. The layers she gave me were and *still* are amazing. She absolutely understands how hair works. Even with my quick growing thick hair, this cut remains intact and so easy for me to style. I am out the door in no time! However...it is the color was really what blew me away. She managed to color my hair that made it look completely natural. People at work commented on it immediately the next day and people are still asking me about it. She managed a perfect blend of all the dark blondes I have in my hair but yet looks completely natural. Now I am never one who can commit to anything in the future but I have moved my schedule around for my next appointment with her. Maggie truly is a masterful stylist and colorist at Fresche. In the past, I've had color dull quickly but yet the color and cut are still going strong. She is an amazing expert on hair but also has just good intuitive knowledge about color. Most importantly, she really took the time to listen and make me comfortable with her steps making sure I was completely satisfied with everything! It is very refreshing to find such amazing talent and heart as well and I definitely plan to return to Fresche to see Maggie again. Thank you Maggie!!

I haven't had a haircut in five years. I've had a shaved head ever since "The Incident," but this…read moreyear I was feeling a little saucy. I'd been growing my hair out since Easter, and by November it was getting to be a little out of control. My lion's mane needed to be tamed, preferably by a woman wielding a whip and a stool. (Lion tamers use 4-legged chairs/stools because the multiple legs make it harder for the lion to focus on one thing at a time. Something something about their vision go read Wikipedia.) I found Fresche on the Internet through the same tool you tools are using to read this right now. Congratulations. Making an appointment through fresche.net was super simple. I've been to adult sites that were more difficult to navigate, and you'd think they cater to the lowest common denominator. Anywho, I showed up for my appointment today with a randomly selected stylist, Laura. If you don't intend to read further, know that Laura is awesome and you should request her. I explained to Laura that for the last half decade, I'd been shaving my own head because on June 14th, 2011, genocide happened to my hair follicles. A genocide named Deborah. She was ruthless. But that's neither here nor there. So Laura had this new head of hair of mine to deal with, and me, a clueless buffoon who hasn't seen the inside of a salon since he was in college. Head of hair is being humble. Call me Mufasa from now on. Yes, I'm calling back to the lion's mane comment. Deal with it. So Laura asked what I wanted, and I told her to do what she thinks is best, which I'm sure is every hair stylist's least favorite answer. It's tantamount to someone saying "here's a blank canvas, draw whatever you want, just doing paint it in human excrement." But Laura handled it with grace and went to work. As an added bonus (and I don't even think she charged extra for this), Laura is a well-endowed woman, and she may or may not have rubbed her boobs against my head a few times. Intentionally? We may never know. It's not important. What is important is that after cutting and shampooing and MASSAGING my dome, Laura left me with already looked like a vast improvement. Then she used a word that I thought was reserved for the men of Midtown. Product. Laura wasn't willing to settle with me being stuck in my comfort zone. She introduced me to messing creme. Product. A generic word meant to refer to literally any manufactured good which has been re-purposed by the hair-care industry to describe things that make hair do stuff. That's the best way to describe it. So she showed me how to make my hair "sexy messy," and oh em gee did she make it work. When I went to work later that day, someone told me I looked like I'd been on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. I don't even know if that show's on tv anymore! Do you understand the magnitude of that improvement? Laura Austin made my co-worker reference an outdated pop culture phenomenon to describe my haircut! She done good. Quote that. After five years of suffering from The Incident, Laura and the team at Fresche have alleviated my suffering and turned me into a super hero whose power is to make women weak in their knees just by seeing his hair and the confidence that comes along with it. So yes, you should get your bangs trimmed at this establishment.

Quick service and great prices!…read more I've been going here for about a year and after referring all my friends here, I finally decided to write a review about this place. Note: there's two locations - I'm not sure if they are owned by the same owner, but they are both located in the same plaza. I've only been to the second location once- which is located upstairs, so I don't have much of an opinion of their second location. It does get pretty busy on the weekends, so either come early or on the weekdays if you don't want to wait. However, even on their busiest days, the longest I had to wait was 20 minutes. I only get my eyebrows threaded here, but they offer other services as well! Eyebrows are $5 now (it used to be $4). However, this place is one of the cheapest places for eyebrows I've found and I've been pretty pleased with the services. I don't have a particular person I go to (you have to pay more if you request for a certain person), but I haven't had any issues with any of the people who did my eyebrows yet.

Unfortunately, despite that, when I came to get my eyebrows done last Thursday, and despite me speaking to the woman who did my eyebrows in Hindi (but maybe she did not hear), I was still treated badly when I went to pay. The girl ringing me up asked her (in Hindi), if the cost should be $5 or $6 and the woman who did my eyebrows, again obviously thinking I can't understand her, says loudly $7. I don't mind paying $7 if that's a consistent thing, but I do have a problem being discriminated against as if I'm not Indian, just spoke to you in Hindi, and have had previous conversations about these things in the 2 years I have been coming here! That was just really shocking and upsetting behavior. I obviously won't be returning and will be sharing my experience with my friends.

I thought I found a great salon that I could come to for everything but after this visit I was so disappointed :-( I booked an appt with Viola for a color, when some other person applied the dye it was only at the top of my hair, I asked if they were going to put hair dye on all of my hair because I needed the dye really on my ends because they get lighter and I wanted my hair to be even and all one color, dark brown, but they said it would be an additional charge. I have never in my entire life been to a salon and they only dye half your hair. When the girl was washing my hair she asked me if I wanted my hair blow dried for an extra charge, again I have never been to a salon and they don't dry your hair after a service. I was already irritated from not getting a complete hair color so I said no and left this salon with dripping wet hair and got charged $85 for and in even hair dye my ends are still lighter than the top of my hair and I booked my appt with Viola and someone else ended up doing it. Extremely disappointing experience and will definitely not be returning

After I had to find a new stylist, I panicked, I had to find someone that would listen to my opinion know what styles, colors, and cuts I like and add their input. I want to be able to trust my stylist to give me what I want, but also add in their expertise when giving me updated looks. A friend recommended Ryan Rumpel. I took a chance and I am so happy I did. Ryan is in a small salon in Buckhead. The location is great! Ryan told me it might be difficult to find, so he gave me detailed directions. My "directionally challenged" self actually found it the fist time. NICE! I walked up the staircase into a small but charming salon. Ryan was still with a client but greeted me immediately and asked me to have a seat and relax while I waited. Ryan was finished with his other client within 5 minutes, which was exactly on time for my set appointment. Ryan immediately sat down and started asking me what I was looking for in a cut and color. I showed him several pictures of hair styles and colors I liked, but told him I wanted to be able to give him the trust to pick the best option for my face structure & skin tone. Ryan listened to everything I told him about what I knew I liked and didn't like when it came to hair styles. He was detailed and made me aware of all costs so that I was able to know what I was going to get and not have "sticker shock". I let Ryan take the lead with choosing my color and I am so happy I did. My cut and color came are perfect!!! I am so happy Ryan was recommended to me. I am now his faithful client. Just a few extra notes I think are great... Not that the big salons aren't great, but I love the attention I get from a small salon with a few stylists. Your stylist can become like family when you are with them for years, so I need to be able to trust my stylist as well as be able to talk to them. Ryan chatted about his life and family and I discussed my life stories...I mean aren't hairstylists basically therapists that make you look better? I would highly recommend Ryan for women and men. He had a male client, that I believe is also a friend that came in for a quick haircut. Ryan was able to fit him in last minute and they discussed different men's styles. I actually enjoyed listening to the different men's hair styles...I learned something new. So, ok guys, if you're bald you won't want to go here...but if you have hair, Ryan is your guy! Ladies, trust me, Ryan is an amazing stylist and also a genuine person that loves what he does. He knows hair, knows styles, trends and what to do toile his clients look their best! This is a small salon with a couple stylists doing their own thing. Prices are beyond low...I seriously laughed when he told me the cost for my cut and color, I actually told him "you're kidding, right? That's way too cheap", but Ryan was quick to say that he charges for services. I know exactly what that means, I'm not paying for the overhead and marketing of a large salon, I am paying the stylist for their services. That to me is what I want! To make an appointment you can email or call Ryan Rumpel. ryanrumpel@gmail.com or 910-297-5855
