Really upset with my hair. I go blonde to dark all the time and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. You're supposed to leave the salon feeling amazing with your hair styled. And I left the hair salon looking like a fuzz ball. She didn't even ask me how I wanted my hair to be styled (because I only curl my hair and she should have known because I came in with it curled). I went home to style it MYSELF and came to realize that the bottom of my hair feels sticky and I can't even run my fingers through it. I took a shower to see if I could wash it out and ITS STILL THERE. I started bringing my teenage son to Hoa for his haircuts not long after Salon Joa opened. First of all, the Salon itself is gorgeous! Very attractive and super sexy inside. Everyone that works there makes you feel welcome and they are all work to make sure that your visit is the best that it can be. They have created such a fun atmosphere that it makes you want to visit again and again. Hoa gives an excellent men's cut and since his first Hoa cut, my son has refused to get his haircut by any other barber. I myself started getting my nails done there in 2014 and was hooked after my first visit. Best nail salon I have ever been to! Their pedicure stations are nice and comfy, everything is super clean, and they have tons of colors and nail art ideas to choose from. They also include a free drink with your service, which adds a nice touch. All of their Nail Artists do a great job but Melly is, hands down, the best Nail Artist I have found in Denver and my favorite. She does an amazing job and never disappoints! I never realized that designs on gel polish were possible until I met Melissa, and the designs are on my own real nails. I absolutely love my gel manicures! The designs she creates for me are different every time and never boring. They last me at least 3 weeks if not longer and I constantly receive compliments! WOW WOW WOW!!! I've been coming here for about 2 years now for all of my beauty needs- this is a full service salon with both hair, nails, lashes, waxing, etc. Danielle my hair stylist is AMAZING. I've been seeing her for so long, she's so good at taking care of my platinum blonde hair. She's done retouches and my hair is so healthy and strong even after the consistent bleaching and toning. I've also been seeing Xally for hair extensions and she is literally weave queen!! She's super knowledgeable in the beauty industry because she does hair and nails. Salon Joa is one of the best things to happen to East Colfax. I hadn't even heard of this place, but went in for a mani/pedi because my son had given me a gift certificate. I was immediately greeted by at least three super friendly people wanting to offer me a cocktail. I wasn't quite ready to dive into the sauce at noon (although I totally applaud the other customers who had already taken advantage of this offer), so they made me some hot green tea. They were also doling out fresh cupcakes from Mulberries. What more could I ask for? Monica gave me an amazing pedicure and manicure. After a recent move, my nails were trashed. No judgment from Monica though, she got right into a plan to remedy my problems. She was very patient, paid lots of attention to detail and my nails look absolutely perfect. On top of that, she was super sweet and from what I observed, everyone else working there was the exact same way. It's like they cloned an entire staff of friendly, attentive people. The environment is very nice too. Aside from what I now call the Circle bar, they have flatscreen TVs, very comfortable chairs, lots of light, and it is extremely clean and organized. If you want to go to a place that will do a great job and make you feel very good about yourself, I suggest checking this place out. Like many of the other yelpers, I hesitated to write this because I would love to keep Salon Joa a secret for me and all of my friends to enjoy. But, they completely deserve five stars. I work close to this salon and thought I would give it a try for the first time, so I made an appointment for a cut and color on February 15th. I arrived 30 mins early since I wasn't sure how busy the salon was going to be. My appointment was at 2:45., however, my hairstylist did not show up until 3pm. When we finally got to the back to start working on my hair, she was all over the place. She didn't even start working on my hair until 3:30. I informed her that my natural hair did not take color very well and I wanted a tint of red violet with copper balayage hair color. I initially asked if it was possible to that style with my hair color (natural black), and she said she was able to do it. After two bleaches, four hair dyes, and over 8 hours at the salon, my hair looks nothing like what I had asked. My hair is so dry that it is impossible to put any moisture in it, and now I am going bald in some areas of my head (I would like to repeat, I have thick natural black hair before going to Salon Joa). I am extremely pissed off and frustrated! I have been in contact with the stylist, but nothing is being done to the damages I have incurred. I would never recommend this place to any of my friends or family after this incident. read more

The good: Just want to preface by saying that if I could give the business 10 stars for customer service, I definitely would! The people who work there are so nice and accommodating...they were able to get me in on the same day and made me feel welcome right as I walked in. I didn't have to wait long for my appointment and even gave me a glass of wine while I waited for my stylist to finish up on her previous client. The not-so-good: I came in hoping to get a medium brown all over color over existing highlights to get more of an even color. However, the end result was JET BLACK hair, which wasn't exactly what I was going for. My stylist told me it would fade, so I thought I could live with it. Two days later, I wash my hair and I see tons of hair dye running into the shower (I've experienced color loss in the shower before, but never to this extent). Now I am left with jet black in some areas and the highlights I wanted covered up coming through already. Unfortunately, I will probably have to spend a lot of money trying to possibly get my hair lightened and more even. I really wanted to love this salon and make it my go to place...however, I wish that I was happy with the outcome. read more

The amazing reviews are not an exaggeration, this place is as good as it gets. Decided to try it after my best girlfriend mentioned she had converted to this salon, whose name sparked my brain as I had seen all of the amazing reviews on here popping up for the past few months. Right when I walked in I was floored, the salon is gorgeous, clean, and neat and has a really cool vibe to it. Much nicer than I even expected, and I'm pretty sure I spotted a full bar. Every single person I met in there was nice and friendly, and it was just an excellent reception from the second you enter. Roaya was doing my hair, who I had picked specifically after seeing her work on their Instagram page and she seemed to really have a knack for blondes. I wanted to go from dirty blonde, which I was so bored with, to something lighter and brighter, but golden as the white hair doesn't work with my skin tone. I have asked stylists for this a million times and have never gotten it- I always end up the same color, streaky, or with that white platinum blonde. I also presented an additional challenge as I had been unable to get my hair done for a long time and had been substituting with Sun-In, which I imagine is a stylist's worst nightmare. I was one of the lucky ones in that it wasn't TOO bad but definitely a bit brassy on top. No challenge for Roaya though, who hit the nail on the head and got me super bright and light without looking fake or overdone. I am so in love with the color she got me to, and I have to say she has the hands- you know when you're getting your hair shampooed and when they massage it in it's just beyond good? It is a lot pricier than my favorite nail place called Love Fashion Nails in Park Hill where they are perfectionists, give long deep massages and my nails last weeks at a time, unlike the pedicure I received at Salon Joa. After 1 week some of my nails have chipped and I have places on my toes where they did not cover the nail completely with the top coat and they look bad up close... my foot massage wasn't even a massage as she barely touched my feet. Very disappointed. I got a gel manicure and there website said it lasts 2 +weeks. The nail person said 2-3 weeks. And the last time I had a gel manicure it lasted 3 weeks. But this time it started chipping 7 days after. When I called the salon to ask about this the girl who wandered said that its common to only last a week. I am very upset. I spent $70 on an mani and pedi. My toes look ok but my hands look awful. And now I have to pay them another $10 to get this chipping polish removed. I feel ripped off.
