Salon Allure is a new, chic and aesthetic salon that just opened last month in the Bank of Hawaii building located near Ala Moana Center. I believe their hours are from 8am - 8pm everyday and by appointment only. I've been going to Dee since 2019 to get my hair both cut and colored. His wife, Yoyo, is also a hair stylist and would assist with the coloring. They work well as a team and make you feel welcomed. I've been going to Dee for balayage since 2020 and I honestly don't trust anyone else except for him and his wife to bleach my hair. Most professionals I've gone to that bleach my hair, my hair ends up dry and breaking after a few weeks. Dee and Yoyo are miracle workers! My hair comes out so soft and I barely have any split ends even months after It does take a while if you want to do Balayage as Dee is very careful with applying the bleach which I really appreciate as I have existing highlights in my hair. Yoyo did a fantastic job on my hair which I neglected for a year by not having it trimmed and did a terrible job with over the counter self coloring. I've been going to Dee since I was 16. I'm 25 now (omg lol.) I used to have black thick Asian hair and I felt like no one really knew how to deal with my hair since I had so much hair. But Dee knew exactly what he was doing and I trusted him since. For my hair cut, I always ask for long layers and bangs to frame my face. I've only started coloring my hair these past couple of years because I've had many bad experiences before with other salons and stylists and didn't want to risk anything but after seeing so many of Dee's work on his Instagram for years and years, I finally gave in. What I loved about my whole experience was, Dee always educated me and reassured me that he would never do anything to jeopardize my hair. In the photo, it's been 4 months since i retouched or toned my roots. It still looks so good. (Would probably look better if I listened to him and washed my hair with purple shampoo more often but I'm a bad listener) That's how good he is. The only thing different in the pic is I cut trimmed my hair today. My friends literally always ask me who did my hair all the time and I obviously always tell them Dee. FINALLY - a great haircut and color!!!! D and YoYo did a tag team process on my very damaged "old lady" hair! I showed them a pic of what I wanted and the results were incredibly close. At first I thought this salon was just for the younger gals, boy was I wrong. This salon is for anyone that wants a precise result. Any one of my 'complaints' would not warrant a bad review, but when you clump them altogether...Well, here we are. After reviewing countless Yelp reviews on salons I chose this one ONLY because they specialize in blond and color. Great! I wanted my ash blonde hair lighter and pink toner. I also wanted balayage. Thats what I booked. I arrive and had my hair done by a woman when I had booked my appointment with Dennis. Whatever. I just drove an hour and ten minutes and waited a couple weeks fro the appointment. Moving on. We looked at multiple versions of pink on my phone and I came up with a light pastel pink on the cooler side. We agreed that a warmer pink like the rose gold would fade out brassy. Great! I also had a photo of exactly how I wanted my long hair cut to just below the shoulder with tons of layers in a messy shag. Whoever the woman was came back and showed me the pink she had in stock. It was VERY pink and bright. I said that is not what I wanted and so she offered to mix it with a white to tone it down. Great, because I am not a hair color specialist, so she knows best right? I was expecting her to cut my hair before coloring it but she didn't? Now while I have not had my ash blonde boring hair colored in nearly two years for about 40 of my years I HAVE had my hair colored every single time I go to the salon. I have run the gamut from short pixie cuts bleached white blonde to long beautiful balayage coloring. I have sat in a hair chair A LOT. So I was super surprised that she started to color my super long hair MOST of which would be cut off - so why waste time and product on ALL that hair!? Secondly she did a full head of foils? I wanted balayage. Should I have said something? Yes, but I was so tired and I just wanted my hair done. Hours go by doing these foils WITH ALL THAT HAIR. Omg. This was when I was starting to get fed up. Color was lifted we head to the sink. AN enormous amount of time was massaging in conditioner to the ends of my hair. The ends that would no longer be there when it gets cut off! We head back to the chair and the pink toner gets put on. I could hardly tell it was pink but as I had never had pink done before maybe there was some delay tactic that kicked in the color over time. So just a reminder, I am dealing with "an expert in blond and colors" and not for one second did she think this was weird. Back to the sink to wash off toner. Again. more conditioner on the ends of my hair. Back to the chair for the cut. I remind her what the picture looks like. A messy shag just below shoulders. So I am watching her cut my hair and the ends are at least 3" below my shoulders and the longest layer is only to my shoulder? I have had this cut before - successfully - and I finally questioned why the layers and length were not shorter? I showed her the picture and pointed out the shortest layers were around the top of the ears? So she layered in some more. Still not enough and nothing like the photo. She had already dried my hair to cut it dry and my hair was NOT PINK. It wasn't even slightly pink. It was blonde. There were a couple of random strands that had grabbed a very pale pink color but that was it. It was 95% blond. I mentioned how it was NOT pink and maybe I should come back - trying to illicit an offer to have a return visit with a toner that actually colors my hair like I had wanted it. Nope. Nothing. Her solution was to suggest I buy a colored pink shampoo. Yup. That was her solution. Then she ended it with a beachy wave with a hot iron - with no product prior to applying hot iron. I have never had a hot iron touch my hair without first applying a product not only to protect it but to make the curl hold. I just wanted to get out of there. So here we are $550 later. What a waste of time and money. I went home and put an $8 pink mousse on my hair. I now have pink hair. read more
