Avoid this salon. I brought in clear inspiration photos and gave them multiple opportunities to fix…read moremy hair, but I still left with a result that looked nothing like what I requested. The first photo is what I asked for. The second is what I actually left with. When I called to discuss it, I was told, "We're not the salon for you," instead of being offered a solution. I asked to speak with the owner, who immediately said he didn't care to see the photos and doesn't give refunds. He was rude, dismissive, and showed no interest in making the situation right. A salon's true character shows when something doesn't go as planned. Instead of standing behind their work, they dismissed me as a customer. I wasted my time, my money, and now have to pay another salon to correct their work. Hopefully this review saves someone else the time, money, and disappointment that I experienced.

I went to this salon for the first time and Katie was my stylist. I asked for a full highlight and…read moreshowed a photo for reference and left the salon with hair similar, if not, darker than when I went in and paid $370. I reached out to Katie asking is she could get me back in to put more highlights in and she responded saying the results I got were what we discussed in our consultation and saying I was changing my mind. I understand being a first time client that there can be miscommunication, but I showed a reference photo and stated multiple times how I wanted to be brighter and she instead put a dark color in my hair. I went ahead and reached out to the salon owner who told me that Katie told her she couldn't get me the results like the picture I showed her, which is simply a lie. I have been getting my hair highlighted for 25 years and never had an issue getting it blonde. I told the salon owner I did not feel comfortable coming back in at this point and wanted a refund since I was now being treated like I was the problem. The salon owner said Katie would reach back out to me and she did not. I had to reach out to Katie again and asked for a refund since I would have to go to another stylist for the results I wanted. She responded saying she will not issue a refund since I took time in her chair and used a good amount of hair products. This experience has been very upsetting 1. to be told I'm basically lying and 2.spending $370 and getting the opposite result of what I wanted. Very unprofessional and not what I would expect from a "high profile" salon.

I absolutely love going to J Michael's salon located at 4121 Shelbyville Road (in the old Sears…read morebuilding). Paige is the stylist I see, & she does a phenomenal job on my hair. I normally get a touch up on my color, she trims up my hair, she also styles it (sometimes she uses a straight iron to make my hair straight & smooth) other times she curls my hair, if I'm headed out for a night on the town. Most times she waxes my brows for me as well. A typical visit includes a stop at the color bar where the freshening up of my hair color takes place. The chairs are comfortable, & there are snacks nearby if you need a little something to hold you over until lunch or dinner. Every time as soon as I enter, I'm greeted by the receptionist, & she asks if I need anything to drink - a soda, or water (you can get a canned soda, or a glass with ice) they also have wine & bourbon as well if you're really having a bad day or week. I usually sit at the color bar while the touch up is being done, as well as the time it takes for it to process. After that, it's off to the shampoo bowl (which is probably my favorite part)! The color is rinsed off, I get shampood, conditioner, & toner. This is also where my brows are done. Lastly we go to her chair where she trims & styles my hair. The salon is very well laid out, there are 4-5 salon chairs laid out in each section, so when your stylist is taking care of you it doesn't get so loud that you can't carry on a conversation. At J Michael's you can get a manicure, pedicure, a facial, you can have your makeup done, get a massage, lash extensions, and even microblading. They are definitely a full service salon. It's bright & airy, people are friendly, & there's always music playing, & it's generally a wonderful place to get pampered. There's plenty of parking just outside the door of the salon. I'd definitely recommend J Michael's if you're looking for a good place to be spoiled. The products Paige uses on my hair leaves it feeling soft & looking healthy. I typically buy several of those she uses on me, every other visit so I can keep my hair looking just as nice as when I leave the salon.

I found this little cute salon after going to have dinner a few spots away. They have really good reviews on FB, so I decided to call and make an appointment to fix a cut that had gone wrong from a month prior. I was off the day I called to make an appointment, so was praying I could get in that day...and I was!! A couple hours after my call I walked in and was greeted by Michelle, who was extremely friendly. Not only was she nice, but she knew her stuff and really dug in to know my hair routine and problems. How do I typically wear my hair? How often do I shampoo? Did I notice shedding after my baby? And many more. This all culminated in the perfect cut. She not only was able to fix my cut, but designed it in a way that would allow my hair to fall into the perfect pony (which is how I wear my hair 90%) of the time. Michelle really took the time to get to know me and my hair needs, and I truly appreciate that. I may be low maintenance, but I know the value of a great cut. I walked away knowing that I had found my new stylist! It really just brightened up my day!! Not only that, less than a week after my cut, I get a handwritten postcard from Michelle thanking me for coming in. Are you serious? If that doesn't tell you how much Southern Roots appreciates their clients, I don't know what will!
