We all got the special fried cod with mashed peas, fresh buttered bread and chips. The freshly fried cod is gigantic! If you get the whole meal you will not be able to finish it. They give you a generous portion of buttered bread for 70p and a nice portion of mashed peas for 60p. The cod comes with a nice portion of chips. The cod was very fresh. Batter had a very nice taste to it and it was fried until crispy, just perfect if you ask me. The mashed peas were fresh peas, then mashed, you can tell by their taste they did not come out of a can. I ended up stealing my husband's peas because they were that yummy. They have a nice selection of beers on tap. Enjoyed my second fish and chips experience and look forward to going back in the future. This place is also doggie friendly, you will find many owners on doggie dates with their dogs on leads.

If you have to send something back because it's terrible (pro tip: don't order the Steak & Ale pie!) then you'll be greeted with "well you ordered it mate..." To which the waiter lets out a huff and grabs the plates and walks off. Coming back a minute later with the ever polite "what would you like instead?" You give your order and off he goes. He comes back with the replacement food and dumps it on your table, ignoring you when you say thank you, and leaving you to get up and get a new set of knives and forks because he took the others and didn't replace them. If that wasn't enough to put you off, the entire time while we were eating our meal, the waiter devoid of any Customer service skills then proceeds to have a very loud conversation with his colleagues where the entire restaurant can hear, and that is extremely off putting when you're trying to eat, hearing the waiter joke to his friends "I bet I'm not going to get a tip out of them!!" Well you make your own minds up on this place, but rest assured I have made my mind up: I shall not visit again. Grotty, mediocre food, and the worst customer service I have ever come across.

Fishtastic's combined a traditional fish and chip shop (counter, typical menu range) with modern practices - cardboard boxes instead of waxed paper and sustainability info. On the wall is helpful screen showing where their current fish stock was sourced! I ordered Haddock out of habit as I prefer to have my fish cooked to order, but their Cod was sustainable too. The fish was cooked perfectly, chips were kept hot without going soggy (probably down to the box) and a can of Cream Soda washed it all down a treat. Fishtastic is a little out of my way, but for quality fish and chips like this I'll be coming back! Keep up the great work.

Only thing lacking is the service which can be a little slow at times but the food makes it worth the wait. The ingredients are local, the menu is seasonal and the daily specials are well considered, fresh and all-round delightful. Though I don't drink, I understand the gin (and tonic) selection to be incredible. Whilst definitely not the cheapest place to eat locally, it is more than reasonable with the fresh, local ingredients and the skill obviously put into making them. Most recently I visited and between three of us sampled (read: devoured) some cod cheek tempura, scallops with an avocado purée, sesame tempura prawns, fish & chips and a double-serving of seafood chowder. These were mainly daily specials and so I had requested earlier in the day that they didn't run out of chowder for me. It honestly is the best thing ever. Saying that - as much as I adore chowder - the cod cheeks are amongst the best dishes I have ever tasted. The food is seasoned perfectly. Fresh locally caught fish & seafood, excellent quality and very good value - Lobster Sandwich with salad & kettle chips for £7, rollmops with salad for £6 (and too much to eat..) Lovely setting (if the weather is nice!) in a small courtyard behind the Golden Fleece pub, just off the harbour, a white building with blue tables and sheltered from the sea breeze.
