    Welcome

Entering into this cemetery I immediately feel a sense of being on sacred ground. The cemetery crew keeps this place in an immaculate condition. The uniformity of the graves and the intentional sectionalization of the areas is indicative of a military though process and planning. All five branches of the military are recognized in every place that is meant for honor. The entrance is easy to miss is you aren't familiar with it. Just look for the metal fence that envelopes the cemetery. Once inside the cemetery there are plenty of directional signs leading you to the area you are looking for. All committal services are held at the same permanent structure. The structure allows every graveside service to be held in an area that is spacious enough to accommodate the entire family. The structure is very nice. It provides protection from the elements with the added luxury of functional ceiling fans, shade, and some warmth in the winter. Plus, the structure is pretty. Beneath the fans are permanent benches for the families to sit comfortably. The graves are very well kept. The landscaping is beautiful. They offer graves that are both in-ground as well as beautiful columbarium space. At Christmas the cemetery is beautiful as every grave is adorned with a green wreath.

Well manicured grounds. An amazing place to visit for unfortunate reasons. But a great experience to have & visit. Helpful staff. Nice to see people take pride in what they do. You can truly tell the difference.

My ex-husband was buried here. My twins were pleased with this establishment and so was I.

Very professional, clean and kind. Despite, it being a sad occasion, I know this Cemetary is well managed for our love one.

Every Memorial Day I take a road trip to a national cemetery. This the last of the four in NC and. I think, seems to be the largest. It's also the only one, sadly, still accepting new interments. It's overwhelming, seeing flags and white stones every place you look. Having the VA hospital nearby is little sad, but in some way, well-placed. Eventually, though, the newly planted trees and shrubs will block out some of the sounds and views that remind you you're still in the middle of a town. This cemetery location is relatively new, the older, historic national cemetery on government road having reached capacity. Like most of the national cemeteries, a visit here is humbling, sad, poignant. Because there are newer graves here, there's always fresh flowers left by a spouse, parent, child, a grandchild, friend. Some are so recent the headstone is not yet in place, only a small paper placard with the last name and date of death. On some of the other headstones, there's sometimes etched a goodbye note, a bible quote, or a nickname. Then there are the temporary memorials: a happy birthday balloon, most of the helium gone, that was still blowing on this windy day; and a note from a wife to her husband; and a child to a parent. Salisbury does a better job than a couple of the other NC national cemeteries at lining up the headstones in that perfect military formation. Very good, in fact. As I walked up and down rows, I tried to keep a respectful distance from the visiting families, in some cases, a mother or wife sat on the ground talking, pulling away stray grass, or a father or brother quietly praying, saluting and reluctantly walking away. There's a columbarium here, too, and a separate area with headstones closer together, marking the sites for those who were cremated, or whose remains were never recovered. At the top of the hill, on the outside of the office, is a computer screen into which you can enter a name and be given a listing of the site at which the person is buried. You can print out a map of the location. It's a nice cemetery, to the extent a cemetery can ever be considered "nice", but for experiencing the magnitude of what a national cemetery represents, it does its job. Effectively.

Old English Cemetery - Old English Cemetery Historical Marker, Salisbury

    Old English Cemetery

Located in Salisbury adjacent to the Rowan County Courthouse and a number of churches, this marker…read morepoints out the history of the cemetery that is just next to it. Marker L-71 reads, "Cornwallis' men buried here in 1781. Granted to city in 1770 by British government. Grave of Gov. John W. Ellis is here." The online essay has more information. "The land for what has come to be known as the Old English Cemetery in Salisbury was originally set aside for the town by the colonial assembly in 1770. The title for the "Burying Ground" was assigned to the town commissioners, one of whom was Thomas Frohock. Frohock donated the plot to the city upon his death in 1794. Over the ensuing decades the cemetery became the final resting place for generations of the leaders of Rowan County. Best known of those individuals was Gov. John Ellis (1820-1861), who died seven months into his term as the state's chief executive. The cemetery includes a number of unmarked British graves, those likely being the remains of soldiers in Cornwallis's army who died while in jail in Salisbury. Cornwallis's camp was situated on the property where the Rowan Public Library now stands and his soldiers used the old town well at the back of the library property. "The oldest grave in the cemetery is that of Col. Daniel Little who died on December 10, 1775. The cemetery was restored by the Pine Tree Garden Club of Salisbury in the 1960s. The Freedmen's Cemetery is separated from the Old English Cemetery by a stone wall. In recent years efforts have been mounted to memorialize those buried in the Freedmen's Cemetery and to repair the monuments in the Old English Cemetery." However, I recently had to deal with them again and awful, just awful. Instead of getting an answer to a question, Deanna got snippy and yelled when I asked about something that made no sense. They did not communicate with me at all after I paid them for a service and what they did was 100% unforgivable. Don't allow them to play any part in a loved ones funeral.

If one word was to define Lyerly Funeral Home and its staff it would be : genuine. Great flexibility in doing everything to accommodate the funeral the way you want it. Both Roger and Deana went above and beyond to make sure my father's ceremony was exactly what my mother and I wanted. Add to that Jim, the minister who conducted the service, and it turned a difficult moment in life into a special one, that we can look back on fondly. There was zero pushiness, no sales pitches...just a willingness to serve to make the occasion exactly what we wanted it to be. And all of this at a very reasonable price considering all the extra steps, perks and whatnot they offered to provide. They took care of everything, retrieval of the body, the paperwork, walked us through what will need to be done once we have received the death certificate., etc, etc. They even took the extra time to bring the flowers that were next to the coffin to our home. Words cannot adequately express how professional, kind and flexible Lyerly is in how they perform their services. They are able to turn an otherwise most difficult circumstance in life, into the best thing it can be. I can't thank them enough, and I can't recommend them enough.

Linn-Honeycutt may charge over $2,500 plus a process fee for insurance paid claims. To transfer a loved one they charge $450 where others charge a fair price of $150. Look at the pictures, the place needs major work to bring it to the 2000's the Furniture and interior is very out of date. For the standard "service fee" (that they charge everyone) of $1,050 one would expect more, better interior, better service better restrooms etc. This place is out of the 1970's but the fees are out of 2018. It is a difficult and rapid decision one has to make when their loved one passes. Be prepared and make the decision that is right for you choose a service provider with care. I also feel that is vulgar for a funeral director to drive a fancy new sports car to work when his clients can barely afford a simple service, it is a "slap-in-the-face" to all who struggle to have a service for their loved ones. This is not a local service, it is owned by Dignity-Memorial --- read below about corporate who runs this place.
