You have to walk everywhere but there are clear professional signs to help you on your way. We saw quite a lot of animals we've never seen before such as the Scottish Wildcats and a few different species of Otters. amazing stuff. There is an area where you walk through where you can see kangaroes and a couple of deers that come up right to you and will nibble on a zip or your shoulder bag. It was quite entertaining. The park is open throughout the year and not expensive at all. There is a small cafe where you can get hot drinks and a nice cooked meal with very decent prices go on, you know you want to go!

The caf' itself offers a well timed jacket potato and mains for between £4-6 of varying degrees of tastiness (don't bother with the 'pasta tubes'), however the cakes and counter-fodder all looked palatable. Sitting outside on a crisp and bright March afternoon is really quite blissful as you sip your coffee overlooking a pond teeming with little critters of which you can learn more about in the activity centre. It does feel like you are at the centre of a primary school biology project but with pleasant picnicky food and curiously there is a moustachioed Italian serving Pizza outside. A little robin perched on a fence post and I thought I'd have to give the Hawthorns 4 stars.

It looked so nice and peaceful, with a lovely view of the harbor, we decided to also take a stroll through the park. I can see why this would be a great place to watch fireworks or have a festival. There is a lot of space to be able to lay out a picnic blanket. There isn't a lot of stuff to block the views. Quite a lovely place to spend an afternoon. This park is also close to tourist sights and the Mayflower Memorial, which is located across the street. It's not a huge site but it's interesting and historical, especially if you are an American on holiday.

Generally hosts all the fireworks for events and celebrations for Southampton and the parties for any major new cruise ships leaving or entering Southampton waters, its an ideal place to take photos of the large cruise ships coming in! There are some great views of the new super huge cruise ships, as they come all the way past into the Mayflower Terminal. Also host the Southampton Boat Show in September. Easily accessible from West Quay Road along the front in Southampton, first exit after Town Quay heading towards Millbrook before you get to De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel.

The atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful and the abundance of cute greedy animals desperate for you to feed them is nothing short of delightful. Their animals range from goats and sheep to chickens to cows right over to the more unusual llamas and highland cows. Even if you're not into getting close to the animals or feeding them the buckets of food available at the ticket office, just watching them mooch around is still fun and relaxing. The llama took somewhat of a disliking to me (was it something I said?) and stormed at me, looking like it could easily clear the fence and gain its freedom. I wasn't going to hang around to find out. One look at my pathetic retreating hide running off into the distance was enough to reduce its anger to mere disdain, and instead he decided to spit all over me. In some sort of random heroic act, the pig sharing its pen flung itself at the llama as if to take the blow for me, and rather than reflect on the llama soaking I'd been given, I instead watched this pig take one for the team. Right in the eye, no less. From hereonin, I shall name this pig SuperPig. If you do have kids you can pretend are the reason for visiting, there's plenty to keep them occupied. Other than the animals you can feed, there are talks and handling sessions with some of the smaller or baby pets throughout the day. There's also a nice adventure playground and a couple of trampolines to wear them out on too. There's a small gift shop and a place to buy some food, as well as a picnic area if you're sensible enough to bring your own food. I love this place and can't wait to go back when it reopens for the season next year.

Lots to see and many activities laid on for the children. Arm them with a bucket of food from the entrance first though or you will find yourself running back for some! On site cafe sells everything from fish & chips to ice cream or just a cuppa. Toilets well sign posted and clean. Lots of basins and hand gel dotted around for after you have touched the animals. Nice staff who are kid friendly. Congratulations to the farm for keeping the gift shop prices low, lots of souvenirs on sale for under £2.

This childrens farm is amazing - one of the best I have ever been to. Its got a really big car…read morepark, then you enter the farm over a bridge and are surrounded by play areas and walks. There are three main play areas - one for older children with big climbing frames to play on and in - one shaped like a horse is always a big hit! There is a sand pit in the middle great for younger children if you have older ones on the play equiptment. The second play area is for under 6's and is full of little houses which my little ones love, running in and out of the houses. There is also a play barn with straw - which is a bit annoying as the children come out covered in it but they have loads of fun! There is a large picnic area with a few lovely climb on statues, and chickens and ducks wandering around. There is also lots of walks and well signed routes around the farm, along the river and through fields. In the warm weather there is a river to paddle in. In the summer they have tractor rides - a pound each but always a hit! Animals - they dont have many but they have enough to entertain young children - a few pigs, cows, sheep, donkeys, and a little petting area with rabbits, peacocks and chickens. Really the main emphasis is on playing so teh animals are more of a sideline i feel. There is a restaurant and a cafe which is ok, fairly standard fair and not excellent but does the job. There is also a butchers and a bakers - lovely good quality meat. All in all a nice afternoon out - busy in school holidays but very quiet in term time. Its a £2.50 donation each - they leave it to you to put it in the tubs around the farm. Closed on a monday.

No prizes for guessing which era the Victoria Park was made. Yep, around 1887 according to the…read morelocal information - to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. Quite a large green area, the park is divided into two sections. At the top of {ark Road are the Mary bnailing Playing Fields (which still count as the Vic, according to us locals). Here there is a children's playground area with some generic swings, slides and climbing frames. Plus a large green playing field big enough for a couple of games of football at least to be played all at the same time. And a skateboard ramp section. From a small entry you can then walk through to the Victoria Park proper, another large area with a side-entrance on to Weymouth Road. It's not bad for a town park, in all fairness. There's tennis courts and a bowling green and a putting green (That's been there for Donkey's Years, I remember playing rounds of putting as a treat when I was a wee lass!). And, there's a covered bandstand too - a relic of days gone by, very traditional in appearance and still put to good use in summer when local bands play there. So for somewhere for the kids to run about it's a good free option. Not adviseable to let youngsters wander off unattended though. And - avoid the toilets if at all possible. Dank, horrid and (on the occasions when they're unlocked) sometimes flooded. Or blocked. Either way, not nice.
