Inside the museum, you will not only find a library with historical information about the county for those chasing ancestry, but there is a fine collection of donated items from within the county or from collections put together by residents. The gallery on the main floor houses historical artifacts from the pioneer days (including Native American) that were donated. There is also a recreation of a parlor including a harp. There are lots of war related items that have been collected. One of the most interesting, yet small in size, items is an authentic Presidential Inauguration brass coat button from George Washington that was found on a local farm by a ten year old boy. Tours are provided to those who are interested for a fee. Outside, the town has recreated a Pioneer Village (there is a self-guided walking tour brochure inside the museum). Based upon the 1840's, it gives visitors a chance to see what buildings looked like. I am not sure if you can go inside since I went late in the day, but you can definitely look in the windows to get a peek. The village includes an authentic log house from 1830 that was moved on site. Other buildings were constructed using donated timber from the area. There is also the home of John Hay, former Secretary of State and personal secretary to Abraham Lincoln. The house's origins date back to 1815 and sits on its original site. Note: The Pioneer Village is adjacent to the Depot Museum which is just a short walk away. Review #2652

If you are a train enthusiast, either real or model, you must stop by this museum just a short hop…read moreto the east of the courthouse. Outside is a real caboose that seems to be in good condition, but unfortunately is locked (so far!) Inside, there is a collection of train memorabilia throughout the first/main floor. Displays of tools, of equipment, recreated models, and lots of photos of trains. The highlight for modelers is the downstairs layout that recreates local towns circa the 1960's as up to four trains run through the large oval display. Note that there is also a hand made O Gauge track that runs independently overhead on one side of the room. Hours of time were donated to the museum to create these local towns and in some cases, hang the black and white photos of the areas overhead for reference and identification. Towns like Campbellsburg, Pekin, and of course, Salem, are represented. Cost is $3 for adults (I didn't check cost for kids), and there is plenty of parking. Bonus tip: The parking lot is adjacent to the Pioneer Village of the Stevens Memorial Museum if you have time to visit both places. My only negative is that having the caboose locked due to either funds, preservation, or volunteers tends to limit the amount of enjoyment the visitor gets from seeing it. Personally, I would love to see a passenger car restored to its glory where a visitor could actually sit instead of just looking at the outside of a closed off caboose. Review #2651

When she moved me up here many years ago, one of the first places she took me was Huber's. We've been back countless times over the years, and it never disappoints. Our latest visit included my nephew, his new wife, my niece, and her 10-year-old son. My niece-in-law is from New York City and had never experienced life on a farm. (Last year, we took her to pet a horse for the first time!) So when she wanted to go peach and apple picking, Huber's was the obvious choice. Let's just say she and my 10-year-old great-nephew absolutely loved riding the trams and picking fresh fruit. My nephew and niece enjoyed themselves too, even though they both grew up on a farm in Georgia. My wife and I took a more relaxing approach, sampling some of Huber's excellent adult beverage offerings while enjoying the live band. It was the perfect way to spend an afternoon. All in all, Huber's once again lived up to its reputation as one of the best family destinations around. It offers something for everyone, whether you're looking for fresh produce, family activities, live music, or a great place to unwind. I normally end my reviews by saying, "I'll be back." With Huber's, it's never a question of if--only when. Halloween is just around the corner, and we'll be looking for pumpkins.

Sometimes on our visits nothing does happen, after all it is not GHOST ON DEMAND ,On this particular Night in August 2025 it started like a lot of our visits not a lot of activity. We brought our own Rem Pod (Device that lights up multi colored lights when energy is close to it) and We use an app Called Spirit Talker that I have downloaded on MY phone. It was a fairly quiet night, As it got close to the end of our visit, We decided to finish it out in the attic. We were all in the little space on the 3rd floor, the room with the with the mirrors and a Ouija Board. We started calling on Big Black,I've read about him in some of the reviews. It is suppose to be A Black Shadowy mist that I personally had never encountered but I thought What the heck lets try. My app started Interacting with us immediately. It was actually answering all the Questions. I felt a cold chill and that's when my Phone said "Its me I'm making it cold in here" When I asked if it was Big Black my phone replied "Yes I'm here Don' t mess with me." The next phrase was Malevolent, That Got our attention. Our entire group was Trapped in that small Space. We heard a loud bang at the area where we had sat our Rem Pod in between the space that we were in and the exit to get down the stairs, That's when The shadowy Mist past right in front of the Rem Pod!!!! The Rem Pod Glowed Red And lit up the whole attic ..We have had this Rem Pod for at least a year and have NEVER seen it light up that Bright ,and one color. JUST RED!!!!! All the equipment that we were using belonged to us,so no chance of anything being rigged, We couldn't get out of that attic fast enough. I know it sounds crazy but cant wait to go back again, We have had so many experiences at Whispers its unbelievable. You just have to be patient and Listen. Honestly I don't know what it is about that house but it literally calls us back... Curiosity maybe??? Or is it something more? Not Sure I really want to know. I Just know its not your ordinary house.

She told me they needed 10 days advance. I told her it didnt state that on the website. She told me I can speak to the owner so I did and reminded him of the conversation we had on the 22nd. He basically recapped it, but then when I told him he didnt call me back I was called "pissy" "asshole" and a "bitch" before I was hung up on. Prior to being hung up on I did tell him I had been there 2 other times and no cussing was needed. He told me he wasn't Walmart and he didnt need to listen to my problem...so we will NOT be staying there EVER again.

Partner had a bit of trouble cutting the chicken, since it was served with a butter knife, but the taste was really good. Will ask for a sharper knife next time! Green beans were well-seasoned, not boiled into mush like most places. A few hiccups with service. Waitress seemed a bit tentative, as though unsure of herself at times, but we were treated well. Took a 100 year old photo to be reframed. The photo had some existing damage and the owner did…read moreexplained the risk involved in framing such an old photo. She did a wonderful job placing the photo on the backer board and did explain the photo was crumbling at edges. On the top of picture there was a few warps. However, that did not bother me. I figure with the age and lighting that would probably be hidden it when it gets hung. If not..who cares! BUT the print got torn, with dark mat and dark background its hightlights the imperfection that now shows white. Rather than calling and asking for me to come in to reconsider resizing the frame or mat or any other options.......The job was completed. I'm so heart sick! After a $225 frame job , they did offer to help me make the changes that I wanted, but it would include another large fee. Whatever happen to customer service and if you run into any issues CALL the customer... Do NOT assume what people want and make decidions about what they want by taking things into their own hands.
